Good things first, the service was great! However, the food was average. WAY too expensive for just average food. Also, it was $38 for a margarita pitcher. This place is inside a casino resort called Harrah's. I ordered the appetizer wings with bbq sauce and a mango margarita. I dined by myself they also brought salsa and chips to the table. The waitress was nice and checked on me periodically and had a smile on her face. There was plenty of seating g with views of the pools and rooms. The food left much to be desired. The margarita was bland could only taste the mixer, the wings tasted like they were boiled and then covered in bbq sauce no flavor only ate two and left the rest. Not sure if there was change in management or if everything became lower in quality because of Covid, but this experience was very disappointing especially compared to the past. My extended family and I ordered the Carne Asada Nachos, 6 Carne Asada Tacos, and the Churros with Chocolate. They forgot a lot of stuff unfortunately. For the nachos they forgot the shredded cheese, beans, sour cream, jalapeños and many more random add ons. Pretty much everything besides the beef and queso. The churros with chocolate came with out the chocolate. The churros were also undercooked and had raw batter in the middle sadly. The Carne Asada tacos came without any toppings besides the salsa from the nachos. It was really disappointing. Not to mention the Carne Asada was extremely dry and bland. We checked the bag before heading upstairs and managed to ask the lady for a couple of the missing items but she gave a lot of attitude only to come back with just a cup of sour cream. But we didn't know what we were actually missing besides the sour cream at that time until after we finished eating and looked on Yelp to see what everything was actually supposed to look like. For the amount of money we paid, the portions were very small. They definitely downsized from the past. And it just seemed like everything was done in a rush without care. Went to Ritas on a Sunday at Noon. Seated promptly, no wait which was unusual as most of Harrahs restaurants have a wait. Ritas is located within Harrahs Southern California Casino right next to the pool entrance (past the Taco Truck.) All hostesses and waitresses were wearing masks. Ours, Hortencia was very courteous and quick to offer us drinks snd take our order. We ordered the Crispy Beef Birria ($17.99) and Enchiladas Suiza ($17.99). The Beef Birras are tacos with shredded beef, blended cheeses, cilantro. Menu did not say they were 'deep fried' so I was surprised and disappointed it was very greasy in a saturated way (versus crispy crunchy like $2 Jack in the Box tacos :) The Enchiladas Suiza were two Shredded chicken enchiladas with blended cheeses with red Tomatillo sauce on top, with spanish rice and black beans. The Enchiladas were very tasty and the blended 2-3 cheeses did give them a unique taste. The menu said the Enchiladas came with 'black beans' but plate that came with meal had rice with refried beans (not black.) As usual the big bowl of chips and salsa were fresh and crispy. Went to Rita's while I was staying at Harrahs Casino twice. They have a food truck built into the side of the wall that is actually pretty cool. I ordered the nachos and they were not bad. We tried ordering from the restaurant itself but the wait was pretty long. We came back the following day for brunch and other then the poor service (we waited 40 minutes to even get chips) the churro French toast was really good. Our waitress was nice although she seemed new because other tables next to use were coming after us and leaving before us, even before our meals had even arrived and they were served by another waitress. The other downside is they charge $3-$4 for food togo so if I was to come back I might be reluctant to eat here again based off of the long wait we experienced. Overall the patio seating was nice as it's in the pool area so it's a cool vibe and the food I ordered was good. Just spent a few days at Harrahs and ate three times at Rita's. Let's start with the location. This place is located directly adjacent to the Harrahs pool. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is welcoming and the decor is asthmatically pleasing. Now the food...We received amazing chips and salsa for each meal. At breakfast we tried burritos and pozole. Both were fantastic. For lunch and dinner we tried fajitas, shrimp cocktails and quesadillas. All were pleasing to the palate and tastefully presented. This place is great. We sat inside, outside and at the bar. Got the Crispy Beef Birria Tacos and asked for it extra spicy and boy, was it delicious! He chopped up some serrano or Jalapeño peppers in each one. The shells were firm, not soggy and all the ingredients were fresh. Added the rice and beans in each one with Tapatio & salt. Dipped in each bite. So much flavor. The chips and salsa were really tasty too, thick crunchy Chips with flavorful salsa. Washed it all down with a cold Pepsi. The waitress was very friendly. I wanted to order three different types of meat for my three tacos but they said I could only do one. I chose carne asada and it had a ground-beef texture with underwhelming seasoning. Besides that, there really isn't anything else to comment on. Portions were average, not big, not too small either. Enough to fill me up for a small dinner. We ordered the food at the food truck but you can walk next door into the sit-down area. On the other side, they sell margaritas and have a full bar. We ordered our food and then walked over to order two margaritas. They had a list of flavors. I forgot what flavor I ordered but it tasted like a regular margarita. As a San Diegan that lives close to the border my tongue has been tasting a lot of good mexican food. My Mexican friends also makes home cooked food which I get to taste every now and then, they are really really good. For some reasons, I couldn't give this place a 5 star rating, my husband ordered the pork ribs which was bland, they had complimentary chips and salsa which was fresh, hot and it tasted good, the rice and beans that came with our orders tasted just fine. Rice was old and came in a small cup in the side. Nothing else on the plate, not even cilantro. Was the most disappointing meal I've had in almost a year. This was again a last minute trip to Harrahs. We head over to Ritas and Austin in not at the bar, so we opt for a table overlooking the pool. We get the same table as last time and luckily our same server Gisela! I order a Blackberry marg and for food the carna asada tacos and pollo parrilla. The carna asada was perfect with a great flavor, and was not dry at all. Same with the chicken it was moist and flavorful. I opted for double rice and they sure give you a lot here. Here on a Saturday and been seated and waiting for the food I ordered for an hour. I understand it's busy and probably short staffed on cooks. no one checked on us. My husband and I are having a staycation at Harrahs and we've eaten here 4 times so far (once ordered to-go from the taco truck). We didn't expect much from this place since it only has 3 stars on Yelp, but we were pleasantly surprised! Both nights, my husband ordered the Combo #3 with Ribeye and Baja shrimp and a cheese enchilada. The steak has great flavor and is well cooked. All the sides were delicious as well. He said he likes this food, even better than any Mexican restaurant in Old Town San Diego. I ordered Steak and Shrimp Fajitas the first night and Fish Tacos the second night. Both were great, one of my fish tacos was a bit overcooked but never the less still good. I really love the rice and beans, so delicious. On a pool day we ordered carne asada nachos and carne asada street tacos. It was good but not great. I don't know if I could say it was actually carne asada, more like ground beef. Still tasty though! We got the burger (a torta/burger fusion). So good! The torta bread is so soft. My husband got the shrimp burrito and it was pretty good. We also got the carne asada fries which were yummy! Last but not least, I ordered chocoflan for dessert. The flan is sooo good and creamy. I didn't really care for the "Choco" part, but the flan...chef's kisses! This will definitely be our go-to spot at Harrahs from now on. I was iffy about trying this place because of the 3 star rating on Yelp but I wanted Mexican food so my husband and I decided to give it a try! We asked to be seated by the window and they gladly asked us with which table we wanted. We were greeted by an awesome server (whose name I didn't catch) and who shortly brought chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were sooo good!!' The salsa was fresh and homemade. The chips were not dry but were flavorful! My husband and I got two plates to share - Los Favoritos de chef Homero and the Marinated Pollo taco. My husband asked if they can make it as a chicken bowl instead and they said of course! I was hesitant to eat here because of the mediocre ratings and review but settled on Rita's because the Oyster Bar had a 90 minute wait. Boy am I glad I ate here instead. It's next to the pool and has a laid back atmosphere. There's an indoor dining room and poolside patio. Free chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and hot. The salsa was tasty. We (2 adults/2 kids) ploughed through 2 whole baskets. Cheese Fundido was delicious and flavorful. Birria plate was alright but really tasty after I added salt. Enchiladas looked good but I didn't try. Taquitos from off the menu but they accommodated. (Taquitos and quesadillas available in case the little ones are picky.) We knew about the taquitos because we ordered from the food truck during lunch at the pool. DELICIOUS (or we were starving, not sure). For dessert we had the Funner Churros. Also delicious though more ice cream would have been nice. read more
