Must stop friendly, clean & good homemade food. We stopped here for a quick bite while camping at the mountain. Potatoes were so good just the right amount of cheese. Not sure but I think the tortillas were home made they were super fresh and food. This place is clean had picnic benches to eat outside with a tarp for shade. You order your food and they bring it to your table. Everyone here is friendly and the prices are not bad. read more

Locals breakfast/lunch spot that offers "tex-mex" cuisine out of a permanently parked food truck. What is Tex-Mex? Well in Texas it's puffy tacos and shredded orange cheese on everything. In San Diego it's called "Chili's". This food truck defines it through several "classic" tex-mex burritos that have unique ingredient combinations. Most of these could still be classified as "SoCal" taco shop offerings. I wanted to like the food at Cocina Tex Mex but the quality just wasn't there. This is Valley Center, not Del Mar, I totally get that but basic food preparation and quality was missed. The biggest issue was that the meat (asada) was of poor quality. Full of untrimmed fat and gristle which some pieces were 100% chewy fat.. Basically the stuff you cut off and toss out if you BBQ asada at your home. I understand it's cheaper to trim your own meat but that only works when the bad stuff is removed. Three of four burritos had issues with large pieces of fatty meat. The second issue was food temperature. Even though they were busy with customers, the rice and beans were luke warm. Same with the asada. Also the rolled tacos were fried too long and had a minuscule amount of meat inside. We have been coming here 4x now since we moved here end of December. Friendly service each visit. We have enjoyed burritos by them, they are generous on meat amount in burritos! First visit I've tried their Tex-Mex burger, it's good but not to point I'll come back for, their burritos is what brings us back as well as their service. We love both their El Paso and Apache El Paso burrito - the creamiest guacamole with cilantro is amazing with their pork! We wish they could have option to add pineapple, even chorizo mixed in would be amazing, might just be me as I loved both burritos and wish I could combine them together into one haha) Apache burrito - both Carna Asada and chorizo is so good, rich in flavor in their chorizo and not greasy at all! Eaten here at least 10 times. I love it! They're Carne Asada fries are better than Jilbertos! I frequent Jilbertos and this place very often, rotating between the two. This place doesn't miss! Their carne Asada Fries, the #5 called El Trio is also good, with carne Asada, chicken and carnitas, rice, beans, pico and guacamole! I also like their breakfast burritos. They're a family owned restaurant and today I saw a sign that due to a family issue they will be closing at 4pm indefinitely so keep that in mind :) I'll continue to keep supporting this place as the service is good and the food is great read more

During that visit, I ordered their carnitas burrito (carnitas, guacamole, pico de gallo). The to-go box was packed with a hand full of tortilla chips, a grilled jalapeño pepper and the burrito. I gotta say. Cocina Tex-Mex is a great change on the taco shop grub that is available thru town. Two quick things to touch on here. The quality of the food is notably of a higher quality than most "fast food" places. I particularly enjoy the quality of the grilled chicken, it is always tasty and juicy whether it is in a burrito or cold on a salad, so a good sign there. I even like the roasted chili and small side of chips each burrito comes with. Secondly, the variety is great. The burritos here span the gambit from classic offerings such as California burrito, fish burrito, even a great chile reano burrito. But I will say I have really enjoyed the more specialty type burritos such as the Apache with ingredients such as grilled onions, other sauces and cheese options. Great changes on the burritos you are used to. The overall variety is great as well. Having them offer classic American style breakfasts here as well as ribs and burgers gives me an added reason to come by here even when I don't feel like Mexican fare. All in all...a great option here in the valley and I look forward to trying more on the menu. read more

Horrible, very disappointing. For a $11.95 roll taco plate you would think the guacamole would be green and fresh. It was just the opposite blacken and old. Shame on you for serving that crap. And the rib plate had tough rubbery meat. Take better pride in you food and MAYBE you'll get customers. You just lost my business serving us the lousy, gross food. read more
