We had to put my dog down today. He was almost 17 years old. We hadn't brought him in to the vet for a few years because he hated riding in the car or leaving the house. I love the office. There is a young vet there that I don't quite trust so I'm sticking to the two I know best. I recently put my beloved pet down and the staff was nice, but things didn't go as expected. I was hoping to have more time and that one of my regular vets would have come in and talked to me before and to come in and inject the euthanasia. :( They can be crowded at times and phone ringing off the hook. But they do try to keep the flow moving and do a pretty good job at it. Kudos to the front desk for all the chaos they have to deal with and they are so kind! So if you are already established there, sent the staff some pizza, or Nothing Bundt Cakes, anything. They will really appreciate it! We had to take an unexpected trip to Risinger because our dog, Clovis, eye was really red and he was having a hard time keeping it open. We came in during the walk in hours, around 2:45pm. We were seen quickly and the nurse and doctor were extremely professional and friendly to both me and my dog. They found out the problem and told me what I would have to do to fix it. They didn't sugarcoat anything and were upfront about the risks and pain level that Clovis would be in. Two vets at the practice gave different diagnoses for my cat. The first two expensive visits included a variety of tests and the cat was put on a treatment plan for early-stage kidney disease. She deteriorated quickly over the next few days. A different vet gave a different, quickly terminal (and apparently obvious) diagnosis when she was brought back for a third visit. After meeting with the owner, I was promised a refund for the unnecessary and incorrectly interpreted tests used for the misdiagnosis several times, but I never received it. read more

Awesome people here!! Had to do a very hard thing this week, let our 16 year old dog, Bloo, go. My own vet could not work me in. Called Risinger and from my very first contact, they were kind and very sympathetic and said absolutely!! Bring him in and we will help you. Staff from that point on was kind, sympathetic and treated my little guy with dignity and advised me of the whole process. They assured me that I was making the right decision for him, as he was very sick. Thank you all for your assistance. Love it here! Love the vets here. Took two of my dogs here on an emergency (separate times). The vets cared for my dogs, even though one dog was evil and wanted to attack the doctor. Good prices compared to Arlington and Ft. Worth for sure. Plus they open Saturdays. Even when I called 30 mins before they were closing, The front staff who picked up the phone told me to come in anyways. I was seen by Dr. Risinger himself (super sweet man). Explained everything to me and showed me visuals to where I could actually see what he was talking about (bladder stones). Then the latest was with Dr. Megan Harris (even sweeter!) I remember years ago she was the vet tech there. Then she went off to college and came back as one of their veterinarians. Great place! Brought my very sick kitten in this morning. They saw me right away. The technician Jean very sweet and efficient.

They were able to see my cat when my regular vet was not reachable. I found them to be cheaper and faster. My cat had a boil that they had to lance. They had medication for me to take home. My cat healed quickly and is back to her happy self. read more

Been using Risinger Veterinary for many years and I always was assured they are the best and most trustworthy veterinary clinic in the area. Now with the COVID19 pandemic they are proving themselves to be a high tuned team in providing care and services and keeping everyone safe and yet also showing compassion and efficiency. Took Benny in for his annual checkup and vaccinations and Dr Casey and Sarah L were both super. Benny needed a dental cleaning and so he came back for that today and everything went off without a hitch. Dropped Benny off in the morning and then picked him up later in the day and the whole process was, in essence, contact free. Even was able to pay from my car! Eek. Avoid this veterinary hospital if you're told your dog needs surgery. Get a second opinion! This doctor told my mother her dog absolutely needed surgery for a tooth extraction. So, as long as the dog needed surgery, mother asked them to administer an allergy shot (as long as she was under, to clean the dog's teeth,) etc--small things that would normally make the dog nervous. This dog is a country dog, frolics on the ranch and has never been in a cage and is beloved by my mom. When my mom went to pick up the dog, they gave her a $500 bill and said they didn't extract the tooth after all because after they put the dog under and took the x-ray, they saw that the purple tooth wasn't cracked enough to merit coming out yet and they wanted to avoid stitches and antibiotics. Good news? Not really. The poor dog will have to eventually go back to get the dying tooth extracted, and the doctor will charge $$ again for the same procedure. Yep! That means they essentially gave an allergy shot and cleaned the dog's teeth for $500. Didn't ask my mother during the surgery if she wanted the tooth extracted anyway (because it will have to come out at some point--it's doomed). Then the vet gave excuses about why the dog had to be under anesthesia to get the xray (not true--vets routinely takes xrays of large animals by giving them a shot for a quick sleep) and speaking to my mother as though she doesn't have decades of past experience with good veterinary practices. The vet smirked at my mother when she said she wouldn't be using this clinic again. Remember, the vet charged my mother $500 for a "necessary" surgery that turned out to be a mistaken diagnosis--the bill would have been hundreds less for a simple allergy shot. Look, y'all: we all love our vets who save our sweet pets' lives. And veterinarian doctors are the heroes of our planet. But sometimes they make poor decisions that leave owners with huge bills to pay and then refuse to think critically about their own actions and ethics. That's the case with this vet. Keep my mother's experience in mind if you're told your pet needs any surgical procedure; get a second opinion. And be mentally prepared to pay for the vet's mistaken assumptions about your pet's health. read more

We started using these folks when we lived in Royse City 15 years ago, moved to Houston for a couple years and are now back in Rowlett. My 3 dogs have never been elsewhere. Office staff would work us in on a Saturday morning when we could make it into town from Houston for our routine visits. Everyone here is all we could ask for and more! I have taken my dogs here for almost 10 years. The first time I came here was after I made the teenager decision to buy a dog from a grocery store parking lot that ended up being really sick. They were so kind and considerate at the time. My parents ended up moving all of their dogs over to use them as a vet. I now live about 30 miles away and still make the drive to take my pup to this vet. I have never been disappointed. In the times we have had to make an emergency trip they have gotten us right in. When we have had to make follow-up visits or just a quick booster shot they are always fair and do not charge the additional doctor office consultation fee. This is the one vet I have been to where I don't feel like they are trying to just make money. They genuinely care and take the time to get to know you and your pet. read more

This review is not about the Risinger hospital in general, I did tell them that I am disabled and had little money, my problem is with Dan Turner, DVM. This man is very arrogant and a blatant lair, I brought my 3.5 year Yorkshire terrier to Risinger because he had breathing problems, Mr.Turner (he is no doctor as far as I'm concerned to me) he made the correct diagnosis of collapsing Trachea which is common with this bread. Lie #1 he assured me he will make my dog better, he gave my dog a steroid and had his assistant give him cough med, Then he prescribed two medications to start next morning, he spent a total of 5 minutes with us! Keep in mind my dog was suffering and had a very loud gasp for air. I took him home $120,00 later and he progressively got weaker and was suffering, I began to think he wouldn't make it through the night. I called emergency medical hospital, they could hear the same labored breathing Mr.Turner heard, they said I should bring him in, I told them of my financial problem and they informed me about Care Credit that will load money interest free for 6 months and informed me that most Vets honor this program, Risinger does as well but Mr.Turner did not inform me. I took my dog to the emergency room and the immediately put him in a oxygen tent, the Doctor informed me the Mr.Turner did not do correctly, the meds he gave me to take home would have done no good because my dog was to weak to eat or drink, he would have suffered to death if I had done what this so called vet instructed, the Ray Hubbard emergency Hospital said they would explain this to the Risinger Vet. Hospital. After having my dog put down about 3:30am I took my little angel home for a ceremony. Then later I went back to Risinger to get my money back for the useless drugs Mr.Turner prescribed, I saw Mr.Turner in the lobby and politely asked if he remembered my dog, I asked if we could talk away from the lobby because I didn't want customers to over hear, he said it was okay until I explained what happened, He insensitively responded "that is what I told you the problem was", I informed him what the emergency hospital told me about his mistakes, then he ask me to another room so no one could hear. Lie #2 told me he had 20 years exsperiance when in fact he has only 13 years, why lie? He raised his voice and told me what I said about my finances quote: "you said you could only afford $50." I told him I have not raised my voice at him and walked away from this irate man! I went back to the front desk to get $22 dollars back and Taylor walked out to apologize, I told him that Care Credit was excepted there and he or anyone else did not tell me, I had him admit his mistake in front of the girl at the desk. Had I known about the Care Credit the may could had save his life with surgery, that was confirmed by the emergency hospital, it was to costly at the emergency hospital and my credit was not enough to cover cost there. My dog may had past anyway. I believe he is a arrogant man and Taylor offered no options . I told the girl I would not let this man save a rat!!
