Enjoyed our visit to Rip Tides, the live music was nice, we thought the music and venue would have been on the ocean side of the building based on the airplanes cruising the beach with the signs. The hostess made us sit in the waiting area even though plenty of empty tables. It looks like this restaurant is like others and is experiencing a staff shortage. We waited over an hour and a half when we were given a 55-70 minute wait time for a table of 8. It came to a point where we asked staff multiple times when our table would be ready after they told us 10 more minutes, which another person said 30-40. It made absolutely no sense. When we were finally sat, we ordered appetizers that weren't bad. The Caribbean Chicken Nachos were pretty good, but the sauce wasn't too flavorful. Still enjoyable though. I waited to try the jerk chicken on the nachos and made my decision to get the Jerk Chicken Wrap as my meal. The calamari was a bit chewy. We all ordered our entrees and when we got them, some of us received completely incorrect meals and/or wrong sides. We wondered how that was possible since we all saw the waitress write down the orders. It was also a little strange that there were about 5/6 staff members who brought the food to the table for us. They left some sides on the table so I tried the cilantro-lime rice.....tasteless. My jerk chicken wrap looked unpleasant and when I picked it up to take a bite, it was SOAKED and fell apart! It seemed like water because the chicken on the wrap was more dry than you could imagine. I sent it back. The sweet potato fries were good though. Being from Daytona, coming back to visit was a real treat. I was craving all you can eat crab legs and while staying on the beach we spotted a plane that had a huge banner stating this for riptides. I was estatic. We went the four of us and for a busy Friday afternoon, the place was pretty packed but we still got in decent timing. Masks were 100% required amongst the entire restaurant and standing outside. Our server was fantastic we had a lot of catching up to do and she was respectful of that. What I found the best part was that you could incrementally go up if you wanted more crab. Meaning, I wanted all you can eat crab legs however I didn't think that I could get the most out of my money(my stomach wasn't cooperating). Our server suggested I get 2 pounds and if I wanted, I could then eat more and then be charged all you can eat price. I never get that at another restaurants eating on the West Coast over here in Clearwater so that was a phenomenal treat. We were excited to try the appetizers for both the gator tail & the calamari. The gator tail meat was huge not skimpy. And it was delicious. The calamari was beautifully cooked in the sauce accompanying it was phenomenal. I was so happy that it was like a sweet and sour sauce. I would love to get both of these again. Are all you can eat lobster was fantastic I got two bands and it was perfect my boyfriend got better at his crab cracking skills so the 2 pounds for him as well was easily fantastic. Our side didn't come in till later either because our server didn't recognize that they were ready I forgot about them which was fine but overall our food was good. My father got the New York strip which he gobbled down in two seconds and loved it. My mom got the stuffed grouper which looked phenomenal and beautifully cooked she said she really liked it as well. So disappointed. We researched seafood places and ended up at Riptide. First, we were told they could only seat us inside and outside would be a wait there were several open tables outside. Next, our waiter did not write anything down and we got the wrong appetizer. When it came out he said it was what I ordered and I told him I would never order that due to a gluten allergy. We then waited about 15 minutes for "chilled" peel and eat shrimp, they were warm... My kids had the jerk chicken quesadillas for an appetizer, they said it was ok. Next the entrees. The blackened mahi was so dry, zero sauce on the side. The coleslaw and rice were both bland. The ribs/chicken were dry and bland. Coconut shrimp was very over cooked and had ZERO flavor. The only "good" thing was the stuffed grouper but when you lather anything with butter sauce it's bound to be tasty. Our waiter could not care less. Disappointing.
