If I could give 0 stars I would. I have now bought sacks of crawfish 2 different times from here. The first time I bought 4 sacks, the second time 1 sack. They were transported home(30 mins away) on ice in a cooler with the lid cracked open. I am no stranger to properly handling live crawfish. Both times 1/3 of the crawfish were already dead by the time I got home. The first time, I let it slide because stuff happens. The second time I took them back and asked to refund or replace(roughly 10lbs). This would have been an easy 30$ fix. They told me to kick rocks and they accused me of handling them wrong and they would not make it right. This is bad business. I will spend every ounce of energy I have to make sure I push everyone I know away from this establishment. read more

I gotta live crabs from Rod's on monument Sunday. Paid for large and got medium. Don't shop here. I tried to get in touch with them after hours, in writing via messenger but they never responded to my message. That's why I hate getting crabs from places that don't take you with them when they go to the back to get your crabs. Left a bad taste in my mouth by playing in my face. The food here was absolutely amazing! We ordered so much food it was unbelievable! But it was delicious and the children enjoyed it just as much as we did! The service was exceptional! But like everywhere in the world they were short staffed and could use a little help. The place is small, but very clean. Understand there isn't any seating for dine-in - so we made use of the outside seating! It was 7 of us visiting the area to take a cruise the next day for spring break. Give them a try! Rod's Crabshack is a gem of a seafood spot in Arlington. They offer fresh seafood by the pound or you can let them do the cooking and get some delicious food to go. We got this entire spread for $58 + tax. It includes (1lb each): 1. A sides tray consisting of two half-ears of corn, a whole large russet potato, three hard-boiled eggs, and a smoked sausage. 2. Garlic Blue Crabs 3. Steamed peel-and-eat shrimp 4. Two large snow crab claw clusters We also got two pints of seasoned butter on the side. No one "needs" two pints of butter, but I'm never going to say "no" to it either. read more

I went here based on the good Yelp reviews and left very happy! First - the prices! I got a huge box of crabs for $20. They have a selection of seafood in the case that is already steamed. They can heat it up for you or you can heat it up at home. They also ask if you want it spicy or not and give you garlic butter to go. I was a little bit confused by all of the platters and what was included in each one. I didn't want the potatoes and corn and everything and the man working told me I could get just the crabs. I also browsed their fresh fish and oyster section. There are SO many good options for so cheap! The man working was super friendly and helped me since it was my first time there. He gave me a menu that listed out all of their fried baskets. I ordered just a side of 6 fried shrimp and it was only $3. OMG these were literally the best fried shrimp I have ever had. The breading was delicious and they weren't soaked in grease. We waited only about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. I will definitely get these again next time. I also want to try their crab legs. This was a great first experience. There is a parking lot out front. read more

Rods is located on Monument in a strip mall. Blink and you'll miss it! Rod gets all his seafood from Mayport, so it's as fresh as you can get! He runs daily specials(see photos). From shrimp, crab, oysters to dinner trays, he will fix you up! You can get the raw or go with the cooked trays, which come with sausage, baked potato and corn on the Cobb. He will even heat it up for ya. Ask for the butter on the side if you don't want a mess in your vehicle though;) Also available for purchase are seasonings ( low-country boil staple), drinks from the cooler and dessert. Drove all the way from Utah to visit Florida. Found this mom and pop seafood boil restaurant. We got the Crab, crawfish, shrimp, fried shrimp, corn, potato, egg, and extra special butter sauce. The seafood was covered in their special butter sauce and topped off with dry seasonings. So flavorful and yum yum yum! My husband wants to go back tomorrow. We agreed that this is our new favorite seafood restaurant, which says a lot because we used to live in California and know good food. They also had prepared foods ready to go, so if you are looking for a quick bite, definitely should try this place. Lots of seasonings, condiments, fresh seafood, and other things you can purchase to make your own seafood boil at home. Even bulk items that are pre packaged. The gentleman that helped us was super sweet and helpful. Walked us through how to order and the cheapest way to order it. So thoughtful and patient! On my journey of trying new places without needing a chaperone, I ended up traveling to Rod's for seafood. 1. Everything is so clean and bright inside. You don't smell that fishy smell and can see all the seafood available on ice and kept cold (looking delicious). 2. I said it was my first time there and the owner was just so welcoming and engaging (and easy on the eyes LOL). He told me all the choices and let me taste test one of the drinks I had my eye on (Rod's Special = delicious!). 3. Ended up with fried oysters (they were cooked to perfection - crunchy exterior with soft juicy center YUMMM! I got the snow crab combo with spicy seasoning and the amount of butter that was given OMG!! and a beautiful piece of cake. I don't know how he knew but the cake choice was superb! I'm not a BIG chocolate cake fan so what I got and the portion size of PERFECTO!! (Don't mind the cake pic, it fell over when I turned a corner going home ) 4. Everything tasted WONDERFUL! However, at that time it did not work out, so I was excited to try it when my wife called late one Friday to "bring something home for dinner". It was an easy detour on my way home near the beaches. There is ample parking out front and service, well not only was it good, it was fun and entertaining. At some point I was wishing there were tables and chairs so I could sit and hang out a while. But since this is a takeout restaurant, you order at the counter, then move to another counter and pay, so there really is not time to linger although I wanted to. There are a few house rules to follow, it is a counter serve restaurant so choose your options from the display case (prices are clearly shown), but before you do ASK FOR THE DAY's SPECIALS. Chances are that there is a special going on, so make sure you ask what it is. The special I got saved me over $20 from my planned order and was almost exactly what I wanted. Remember the key word is "tray" and there are a lot of ways to order your tray, and here are some of the ones we tried: King Crab Tray - full of meat and spiced just right, this was the most popular at our house. Shrimp Tray - over two dozen XL Jumbo shrimp that peeled easily and tasted fabulous. In fact that would have been rated number, had my wife not claimed this for herself, it really was that good. Blue Crab Tray - while not as meaty as the King Crab, the flavors were my favorite and there was ample meat to pick. Claw Tray - great idea on paper, but the claws were so small they just did not yield enough meat or all the work it took Potatoes (side) - I expected soggy, but hot delicious. Boiled Egg (side) - not expected, but a real treat. Sausage (side) - fit the theme, but was our least favorite. You ever have a crab leg craving but you think that you won't get your money's worth? This is why I love places like Rod's. I really had a hankering for crab legs and I almost ordered takeout from Red Lobster, but looking at what I was about to order and how my feelings have changed about this chain over the years, I deleted my order. Surely there's another place that I can order from, get delivered quickly for a low price. I ended up going through Grubhub and ordering from Rod's. I ordered a Jumbo Snow Crab Tray which comes with 3 legs seasoned and covered with waaaaay less garlic butter than most other places. My boyfriend got the Garlic Combo Scallop Tray: 6 scallops, 8 shrimp, corn, potato, and egg...same seasoning, same garlic butter. He also got a side of sausage and he destroyed the tray. I had asked to go light on his tray as far as the butter and seasoning and he said that he might've missed out on the flavoring, but he still enjoyed everything. It took me about 2 hours to get through all the meat in the crab legs. Not that it was super-meaty, I just enjoy getting every single piece out of the shell. They were worth it. The rods island drink was very good so I do recommend that. He does allow samples to try the drinks so if you are indecisive like me I recommend that. Yesterday I ordered a pound of green mussels. I usually order them from a restaurant closer to home but wanted to try a different place. When I picked it up, I immediately regretted it. The bag was so lightweight, it was concerning. I reminded myself this wasn't my usual order from my usual spot, and that this order wouldn't come with corn and potatoes. However, when I got home, I realized the lack of weight had nothing to do with the lack of sides. I received exactly 11 green mussel halves. My usual place averages 16-20 rather large green mussels per pound; why do I know this? Because I have a habit of dividing my order roughly in half, some to eat now and the other half to eat later. Also, these were prepared differently. They were dry and overcooked, like they were baked or broiled too long and sprinkled with what tasted like seasoned salt and minimal sauce at the bottom of the container. They lacked the garlicky, heavily Old Bay flavor I've come to enjoy. I was tempted to go back out to my go-to place and get an order to make up for my disappointment. Instead, I waited until today to place an order at my neighborhood restaurant. It came with 18 delicious, juicy green mussels drenched in garlic butter. So I wasn't going crazy. I don't know what Rod's uses to "measure" a pound's worth of green mussels but they charge a similar price for fewer mussels. Not a fan. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. To be fair, maybe they're better with their crab trays. It was only my first visit and I'm always willing to give a place at least a second chance. My neighborhood spot serves amazing crabs too, so I've got a baseline to compare them both. But so far for me, Rod's doesn't live up to the hype and missed the mark. I was craving for some oysters and I knew that Thursday is a great day for seafood. Why? Because that's when the seafood markets get their shipments in. Oysters can last up to a week as long as they're kept in the cooler. However, I like mine fresh. I've moved to the Southside a few weeks now. I knew that looking for a seafood market isn't that difficult because the Southside has everything! After some research on Yelp, I have come across this place, which has a lot of good reviews. I called and talked to the owner (Rod) if he has any oysters. After some conversations, I told him that I will go to his market. When I arrived at 2 PM, the market wasn't busy. In fact, I was the only person there. Rod greeted me with a friendly smile. Then we had a good conversation about the oysters. He told me that the oysters were fresh from Virginia. He even opened one to let me try it. He was honest and helpful throughout my visit. I knew that the oysters will be good, which I decided to buy the 50 lbs bag. Let me tell you something. Most seafood market owners just want money. They don't provide their customers with good service. I've been to various seafood markets, but wasn't satisfied. However, Rod is the opposite. He cares about his customers. He sells high quality seafood for reasonable price. Don't expect seafood to be cheap. They are expensive for a reason. Anyways, the oysters were great!
