Salvatoria Kitchen and Bar is a great option if you're looking for a sit-down spot for pupusas. I…read morewas pleasantly surprised that the pupusas were still reasonably priced for a full-service restaurant and bar, at around $4 each. They offer a good variety of fillings. My favorite was the jalapeño and cheese, which have a nice kick to them. The yuca frita was crispy but not oily, and made for a great appetizer before the pupusas. We came during happy hour and took advantage of the drink specials. The red sangria and margaritas were only $8 a glass and they were both strong and tasty, though I preferred the sangria slightly more. The music at Salvatoria was great and made for a nice atmosphere, with current Latino hits playing in the background. My only note, and it's minor, is that the curtido wasn't as good as I've had at other places. They do give you a good amount, but it lacked some of the crunch and acidity that a great curtido needs to balance out the pupusas. Overall, Salvatoria Kitchen and Bar delivers on food, value, and atmosphere. The bill for four pupusas, two drinks, and an order of yuca frita came out to just $45 before tip.

The tamales de Pollo were moist..I know, I hate that word too, but they were tender and the chicken lightly seasoned. We tried the Tacos Fritos con Carne Asada which came with tender steak, chopped scallions and herbs and hot sauce (on the side) wrapped in a substantial corn tortilla. Very nice. Camarones A La Plancha...amazing. Well seasoned, perfectly grilled shrimp over fluffy rice with a side of beans and tangy salad. Everything was fresh and it was a pleasure. I will order from here again. Not through seamless though. I requested contact-free delivery. The delivery person called to tell me it was left at the door...Of the wrong house. It's street parking, but that's normal in Hempstead. The outside of the building fit popular 90's store fronts. So it made me reminiscent of the past. Inside I was a little surprised. The place was a bit run down. Tables were not wiped clean and the wood trim around the food looked questionable. But those things don't stop me from eating. The staff behind the counter were incredible! They talked to everyone. When the restaurant started to get more customers walking in, they were on it. The woman who helped us was incredibly friendly and helpful. She explained everything and what it was (my friend translated for me) and I made my selections. The woman waiting on us offered me some kind of sauce. I figured "when in Rome." We took our plates and started eating. I instantly thought how glad I was to take that sauce. I wish I remembered the name of it. But trust me I took the rest home. The entire meal, including the sauce, amazing! That ring that looks like a donut, was in fact, not a donut, but I will recommend you try it, if you stop in. I will definitely be back. With all the other selections down the assembly line they offer, I have my work cut out for me. I mean, I didn't even try the rice yet.

My pupusas filled with cheese beans and loroco were very filling and the calabacita platter was the same. I definitely preferred the taste of the pupusas as the calabacita needed a strong sauce for taste so I ended up using the red and green salsas from the pupusas. However, even though I marked for utensils the restaurant did not provide me any. I don't know if that was a glitch in communications between Uber Eats and the restaurant, but it made it a pain to go hunting for plastic silverware at a quiet hotel.

It's a cozy space with about five tables, and literally every seat was taken. Despite the size, we were seated at a table for four and our orders were taken promptly. The restaurant also sells a variety of imported products, giving it a bodega/restaurant vibe. The menu is simple, offering everything from pupusas and steaks to tamales and daily specials. I went with four pupusas: cheese, mixta, chicharrón, and beans. The rest of the family ordered steaks, and nothing disappointed. The food was hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. The pupusas were done right--filled generously, the tortillas cooked perfectly with no mushy centers. I ate until I was about to pop! The red sauce and curtido (salad) were the perfect pairing, alongside a tall glass of horchata. Considering how full I was, the price made it even better. Another local gem you absolutely need to try. 5/5 stars.
