Overall solid food, tacos are great. There pork tacos are full of flavor, the habanero sauce has a good amount of heat, but not overpowering. Their Yuca Fries are pretty bomb too. A great small corner restaurant tucked away in the corner, you'll miss it if you're not looking for it, but it's a hidden gem. read more

This place is near where I work and I'm so glad I discovered it. It's such a hidden gem!!! I tried almost everything on the menu and haven't had a bad dish yet. Everything is made from premium ingredients. My favorites are the fish taco, shrimp taco and the shrimp ceviche. You can taste the freshness, so full of flavor. You get 5 big size shrimps in your ceviche, it's not a cheap dish, but it worth every penny. They are famous for their pork, which is the only thing I haven't tried yet because I don't like pork that much. But if you do, I bet you will love it. This place is truly special. For a Latin style (Ecuadorian) restaurant to be so incredibly unique in a market where Latin/Mexican food is overly prominent, is a feat on its own. During our visit, we tried a few items on the menu. All very delicious! Despite how much we ate, and how full we were, didn't feel weighed down at all. Tacos were flavorful, juicy, and MASSIVE. The yuca fries were light, crispy, and pair very well with the chimichurri And my personal favorite, the Llapengachos. I could eat these all the time. Light, crispy outside, cheesy, and once you crack that egg... with that peanut butter sauce.... perfection. We've been here for dine-in, and had the awesome tacos from their truck, and now, while sheltering-in-place, we are happy to pick up their yummy food to go. I wish I took some photos, but the kids devoured the taco bowls before I had a chance. We got a chimi chicken taco bowl, a fish taco bowl, and a shrimp salad bowl all to share. All dishes had a really generous amount of protein, and the fish wasn't bartered/fried, which is great. The shrimp were packaged separately - nice touch. I highly recommend their yuca fries and maduros! They used to have these potato cakes with a fried egg and peanut sauce which are now missing from the menu. May be they can still make these, if asked. They were ridiculously awesome!! Oh, a note on their salsas: all are great, but beware of the orange habanero one - spicy!!!!! Riobamba deserves rave reviews, I have only been ordering there since COVID but I'm excited to come back and eat at the restaurant once this is over. This place was recommended to me by a friend who is gluten free and dairy free, I'm also gluten free myself. They have tons of options if you have a restricted diet. My usual order is a steak taco but I've also tried pork and chicken. All are fresh, with simple but delicious ingredients. They are also pretty big! I am a woman with a normal appetite and with chips and salsa I can eat just one taco. I've ordered 2 before but was unable to finish them both. If you're looking for something fresh, well priced and good portion sizes I'd highly recommend.. and if you're gluten free definitely try it! Lots of choices. read more

So, I'm Vegan and LOVE that they have so many options!! The tacos are amazing (and one taco is like 2 in 1) they are HUGE. The salsas are delish (the green one is my fav) and the guac is awesome! I also like that they don't use any animal products to flavor the rice which 99% of places do so I always have to skip it, but here I don't! I almost don't want to tell you how good this place is, lest it get too crowded for me to get in. Riobamba started as a food truck and is now a brick and mortar restaurant tucked into the back of a strip mall off of Waukegan Road. You order at the counter, grab a seat and wait for your food to be brought to your table. The staff is incredibly committed to the quality of the food, great service and your overall dining experience. Everything is great here, but there are a lot of items you just can't beat at any nearby Latin restaurant. The yucca fries, tostones, hornado, fish tacos, shrimp & chorizo and homemade tamales are total standouts. Go. Eat your way through the menu and never look back. You won't regret it. Post-script: I'm not a soda drinker, but Riobamba sells drinks for $1. with any meal. The use a craft brand called Stubborn that uses pure cane sugar and has wild flavors like vanilla agave, pineapple and orange hibiscus. I went here with hi hopes but the food was very average. The shrimp were too salty. The tacos had a lot of meat but to get lettuce tomato sour cream and guacamole cost an extra dollar per taco. My family is from Ecuador so I had to try this place...after all my ma was born in Riobamba! I place an order for pickup on my lunch break and as I stop in, I ask one of the owners (I believe) if this was actually an Ecuadorian restaurant. He tells me, "Well no...it's South American" as I see an Ecuador banner behind him. I was like...oh okayy thanks and took my order. Not a lot of engagement from them..would have been nice but def not expected. I ordered their steak tacos, avocado salad, and tostones. I was really disappointed in the tostones. They tasted like oily cotton. I had to throw them away. The saving grace were the steak tacos. They had so much deliciously tender meat. I had to go back! In my subsequent orders my tacos would have a lot of burnt steak bits that I found myself picking out. Also, instead of adding avocado to my tacos with cilantro and onion, I just got avocado which was confusing and super disappointing since cilantro and onion are included. The avocado salad, although so delicious with their lime dressing, always had an over ripe/browned avocado in it. Which I know is fine to eat but also not very appetizing. Maybe it's because it's made ahead of time and the wait browned it I don't know. I'd go back to dine-in casually but not in a hurry. read more

Riobamba's food truck just served over 100 teachers/staff at our high school. They did an awesome job serving our staff with less than 4 minutes of wait time for each meal. Our teachers loved their tacos and are sold on visiting their brick and mortar in Glenview. The owner and staff ran the truck very efficiently, were friendly and so easy to work with. They arrive one hour early to prep so as soon as our teachers came out, they were ready to serve. I would definitely book their food truck again. read more

Update: I told my Dad that for Father's Day that I would take him out for a meal and he picked here. I will be honest, I wasn't thrilled. But holy shit, we had the best meal! We went all out and ordered the yucca fries - amazing, avocado salad - so fresh and good!, tacos, bean dip, and the very best chicken tamale!!!! I just wanna come back everyday for the chicken tamale. I forgot about dessert, we had the MOST amazing flan - I don't even like flan and it was delicious. I will be back again and again. First off, I am happy to see an independent fast food place in Glenview. Second, it's pretty awesome to open up a new restaurant. Takes a lot of work and courage. This is in a strip mall and you can't see it from Waukegan Rd but there is a sign on the lawn by the entrance to the parking lot. I stopped in to grab some tacos after hearing about how great Riobamba was from friends and it did not disappoint! I of course was greedy and ordered more than I could eat but hey that's nothing new! I had 3 tacos and a side of yucca fries and couldn't finish it all because the tacos were much larger than expected. I highly recommend the chorizo and hornado (roasted pork) tacos but pass on the steak tacos since they were dry and nothing is worse than dry tacos. The yucca fries were delicious of course and if you're never tried yucca fries, definitely order it. Service is a bit slow so unless you're in a big rush it's not a big deal. Seating is minimal so you might want to order carry out or just stand and eat outside (kidding but not really). read more

We ordered the lamb taco, pork taco, hominy, and the seco de pollo. The lamb taco was decent and so was the seco de pollo. The pork taco seemed flavorless, they are not like pastor tacos unfortunately. I may just be more into specialty tacos, and these seem to be more authentic style. The lamb meat was cooked well and so was the chicken in the seco de pollo. The seco de pollo is a rice and chicken dish with veggies, it was quite flavorful. The hominy is supposed to be corn but it just tasted like bland mashed potatos. The restaurant was small and had a good stream of costumers. I'm always a little worried when the cashier at a Latin food restaurant doesn't speak Spanish. Got a little more worried when I realized none of the patrons at the restaurant were speaking exclusively in Spanish either. But then I took a bite of those shrimp tacos. Make no mistake; this place is incredibly authentic Latin food. Their shrimp tacos are magnificent. I took a bite and it felt like I was back in Cancún. The shrimp are big, between the size of quarters and half dollar coin and more than an inch wide. Their size was perfect for the seasonings. I don't know what their recipe is but it is spot on. Those shrimp were more orange than Trump and not dry at all. I did not even need the avocado (medium heat) salsa I chose. Final bit on authenticity? You know the taco is not white washed when they use two corn tortillas. Perfection. I've actually never had yuca/yucca fries before. I didn't know what it was. I can't verify authenticity. That said, holy deliciousness! I could not stop eating them when I got started. They're so good! I dipped one in the avocado salsa and I was GONE. Can the serving size be increased, please? Those fries were amazing. I actually got a pickup order and had to go back in for a second order of those fries. Riobamba got me good with these yuca or yucca fries. All I can say is: Wow! I went out on a limb and tried this place for my first time this past weekend. We had them cater for sister's baby shower. All the food was delicious and we chose the option of the taco bar with chicken and steak tacos. We also had that yucca fries as a side and they were absolutely delicious. They gave us a couple sauces to choose from which was nice because they offered hot, medium and mild spiciness. The aioli sauce for the yucca fries was heavenly and our guests raved about out how good it was. The process of contacting this establishment and getting everything set up was surprisingly easy. Mike answered all my questions quickly and offered suggestions about how much food to order. Let's see: Food: 5/5 I had the chorizo taco on corn tortilla (double tortilla doing it right guys) and half chicken served with sautéed veggies and rice. The flavors were on point. This is not your average "Spanish" restaurant but I can tell a lot of family secrets and love to into the way they make their food. Only thing I wish they changed was the size of the plating for the half chicken; felt kind of claustrophobic. Service: 5/5 I'm a big believer in great service makes great business. Very friendly, very knowledgeable front staff; if they instill that mentality to all their employees I don't see why they can't take over all of Chicago.
