I go there to get dog bones. My dog loves them. This is a very old time meat market that is small. You can actually talk to the butcher, tell them exactly what you want and get it cut for you. I couldn't have enjoyed my visit to this local market more. I do wish the origin of the meat was labeled but besides that it was a wonderful experience. The butchers were friendly, helpful and engaging. I bought beef short ribs that are beautiful and were reasonably priced. While there I asked about bulk chickens and left with 8 whole chickens at a wonderful price while supporting a small local business. I had to wait a bit for the bulk order and enjoyed a soda water at their tables while watching the variety of customers come in. It really feels like a local market and I plan to go back whenever I need meat outside of my meat shares. Also I picked up a lovely slice of pork belly! read more

Rio Rancho Meats is an old fashioned service counter meat market with great looking high quality meat products (says the meat cutter I was years ago), some prepackaged grocery items & a bit of fresh veggies, coolers of drinks & ice cream, and very friendly staff, plus a super enthusiastic owner, assuming the lady that I spoke with after everyone else referred me to her for permission to take pictures is the owner. She was very outgoing, gregarious, and friendly. A sparkling personality. Product selection is broad and diverse!! Beef, pork, chicken, sausages, and more well merchandized & tastefully presented. I noted the thick/thin cut choice on some products, or the fresh/smoked option on others. Plus big chunks (legs of lamb I think it was in the freezer, plus other cuts) vs prepped & cooked single dish items (precooked chile rellenos). See pictures for an idea of the breadth of their wares. This little meat shop is a jewel harkening back to how shops were years ago, when the people you did business with were your neighbors. This is the kind of shop you expect to find in a small town. Fantastic! The best butcher we have ever patronized, excellent quality natural products. We also really like the employees, they are excellent, they help us with all our needs, are very friendly and help us get what we want. This is not supermarket meat, this is his quality so it costs a little bit more. We accidentally went just before Christmas without realizing that there would be a holiday rush, so we walked in and although there were plenty of customers there they were happy to take care of us, they did a great job, got us exactly what we wanted quickly (much faster than at supermarkets), we are very impressed. Of course if you want something special for the holiday then we strongly recommend that you place your order a few days in advance, then give whoever you send to pick up your order your name and Order Number and you can get in and out in a flash, I was pleasantly surprised at hoe quickly they got the preorders out the door. I have only visited this location a handful of times and the experience has always been good. However, this past Saturday, I went in to order one of the package deals they have for a bulk portion of different meats. I was told to come back at 5:30 to pick up only to find the location closed at 5. Why were we told to come back after hours? We had put this order in to cover a big family get together later that night and would have found another resource if we were told that they could not prep the order in time. And why did the employee tell us to come back after hours knowing the store closed at 5? Very disappointed and will be sharing this experience on other social media outlets. read more

I arrive at the store and am now told there is no tri tip. The young man behind the counter also snarky and brash with the tongue. Our family has been shopping here for many years. When we want top quality steaks, this is where we go. Sometimes they have homemade chile and pinto beans that are old school like my mother used to make and they are outstanding. I always look for them in the freezer area when I come in. If you want real meat with no "red slime," (is that what they called it a few years ago when they found it in the big box stores?) or junk additives, this is the store for you. The steaks can be cut to your preferred thickness and you can taste the top quality. It's a long drive for us but it's worth it. read more

Recently moved to the area. Heard great things, drove in back in April 2022 to check it out and was highly disappointed. I went during business hours on a Saturday only to find the door locked and a cashier assisting a customer . She saw that I was attempting to open the door, looked in my direction, then looked away , disregarding me completely. Not sure why doors were locked during business hours, but they were . What a great place and jewel of a find! Recently moved to the Albuquerque area and looking for a good butcher shop. I yelped and based on the reviews found Rio Rancho Meats. I was looking for a slab of pork ribs. I knew I was in the right place when I walked in and a customer had bought at least 3-5 slab of ribs and she could not say enough about the quality of meat. I took the slab home and put them on the BBQ and they were fantastic. The butcher shop itself is clean and very well painted. The customer service is outstanding. Get there early as there was a line out the door based on our current situation. I will be back! read more

Friday morning at 10am I ordered a Tri Tip to feed 10 people for dinner. They told me it would be ready after 3pm. I drove 20 minutes to pick it up and they came out with 2 frozen solid, brown/old looking Tri Tips and told me that was all they had. They went in back to check if they had any more, acknowledged that they had my order and said they shouldn't have taken it. They left me high and dry for my dinner party, didn't offer any suggestions or substitutions. The person who came out told me that they freeze the meat after it sits in the displays for a long time before it goes bad... Not what I wanted or ordered and definitely wouldn't have taken until 3pm to get me something from the freezer... I won't be back! read more

I should've written a review last year when we ordered our turkey from them & we were VERY happy with it. So, followed up by using them again this year since last years came out awesome. Very fresh turkey, hasn't been frozen & it came in pretty close to the weight I had requested earlier in the month. True to form, it was ready for pick up the day I specified. The only thing I suggest is to come in when you're not in a hurry. Same situation as last year; the younger staff seems a little discombobulated when it comes to finding a customers order & not having enough change in the register. On average, someones bill comes to $50 and pays with three $20 bills. No $10 bills in the register and barely enough $1 bills to give to one customer, not enough for the three other customers waiting to pay with cash. Kinda annoying to have to wait for someone to stop searching for someone's turkey to scamper in the back, make change and scramble back to the register for the cashier, then continue their turkey hunt they had interrupted. Debit card is definitely your friend here. read more

Instead of just buying a frozen turkey from the grocery store this year, we decided to try a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving and ordered it from Rio Ranch Meats. Wow, what a difference! The turkey tasted great, it was delicious, very moist, just perfect. No gravy needed for a dry turkey this year. It was also reasonably priced. It was so convenient with being able to wait and pick it up the day before Thanksgiving so I didn't have to worry about finding a place in the refrigerator for too long. Went here to give the local economy a shot in the arm, never again will I stop here. Asked for enough meat for my family of six and was told there was a 3lb limit. Yet the people before me had five steaks looking to be 2lbs each minimum. Since we asked why, answer was because it's my business. Next on the way out was told by the owner to have myself checked. I guess people who think for themselves are not wanted in this small business. Went down the street to Wally Mart and bought 10lbs of meat no problem. Wow here they do not worry about return business. Defiantly will not worry about this place again and want people to know there are better places to shop, even if it's a trip to Albuquerque. read more

Very disappointed. Placed my order for an 6-8 pound boneless turkey breast 3 weeks ahead of Thanksgiving. Went to pick it up today and gave them my turkey number. Waited almost 20 minutes, everyone who came in after me had already gotten their order and were gone. I asked about my order and she went in back. Came out and said they were waiting for me to come in so could "talk" to me about it. They didn't have anything larger than a 4 pound breast. I asked why no one called me earlier to let me know. No answer. The best they could do was tie two 4 pound breasts together. I said yes but was expecting some kind of compensation for their error but no. Too late to get anything from somewhere else and they knew that. Paid $49 for something that was not what I ordered. From now on I'll stick with Kellers Farm Stores.
