Okay let's start by saying I've ate there 4 times now and each time has been great. Finally time to leave a review. Now i know some places have better menu items than others. I've seen their tacos and i can already tell it's not my thing, however what I've been ordering has been stellar. The beans are out of this world. The service is always good and the food came out hot and fast. The chips were warm, the salsa was cold and flavorful. I can't literally find anything bad to say. This place is great. Even walking in you can smell the homemade Mexican smell. You know what i mean. Even a manager came by and asked how it was. I can't wait to go back

We arrived right when they opened. Rio seemed clean and bright with a lot of large tvs. We told our waiter that we were ready to order as soon as we sat down and he was ready to go. Our waiter was awesome. Drew was informative, kind and efficient. We told him we were in a little of a rush and he got our food out to us fast. Thanks Drew, you were awesome. We ordered the enchiladas suprema and a wet burrito bowl. The enchiladas suprema was awesome. If you are a cheese fan make sure you try this. The burrito bowl was excellent also. We enjoyed Rio and will be back soon. Thanks again Drew.

An empty fricking plate because that burrito was DELICIOUS!

Started off with Oberon with chips and salsa. Came with orange slices, OF COURSE! Grenade wet grilled steak burrito. Better than Mexican town. Fresh! I ordered jalapeños and they have quarter sliced longways in the burrito. Yes! My wife loved the grilled zucchini in the veggie street tacos. "Tastes like summer. Some of the best Mexican I've ever had!" The corn tortillas for the street tacos are made fresh in house. 5 stars all the way! Amazing food! We will be back!

Arguably the worst Mexican food I've ever had and some pretty bad service as well. My mom and I stopped in for dinner and immediately noticed the poor customer service and lack of any enthusiasm from the staff. They were very pushy and rushed us when ordering as well even though we'd just sat down. Prices are high for what you get. You can easily go to azteca or other local chains and get better food for cheaper. The tacos beans and rice had no type of flavour, the chips were bland and cold and the pop machine must've needed a syrup refill because it was essentially water. Not to mention the server turned the lights and music and Tv off on us even though we and another group of two were still eating. Like I get that you wanna go home, but you're never leaving right at close working in hospitality anyway. Just an overall bad experience, overpriced and horrible quality. I'll stick to Troy and Madison heights for Mexican food.

    Coronarita....yes, please!

What a FANTASTIC spot for Mexican food and drinks. We stopped in after our 5k adventure and were amazed to see all the beers on tap. I think we were both in shock and awe! Tap, after Tap, after Tap.......I dont' think you can ever have too many beers on tap. haha This place was recommended to me by a local in the area. He said they have the best tacos around. Now, this is a very strong statement to make especially with a very "well known" Mexican restaurant just down the street. Of course, we had to check it out. Walking in the door, I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the large red booths and huge bar with plenty of seating. We ended up ordering a variety of tacos and shared them. Honestly, the fish taco might be the best fish taco we've ever tasted. The shrimp taco was equally delicious. If you are in the mood for an appetizer, the Queso, chips and salsa were great. I ended up ordering a margarita and he ordered a mojito. The cocktail list is just as extensive as the beers on tap. Rio on Main is quite a distance from my house, but we were so impressed by this place that I plan to make a special trip back with my son. He loves fajitas and these looked amazing coming out of the kitchen. I can't wait to come back....I'm already mapping out my next visit. haha BTW, Esmerelda is an amazing bartender! We enjoyed talking to her and learning about all the awesome food on the menu. You know its a great place when the employees RAVE about the food.

We are idiots who want to spend out hard earned money on substandard service and food. If you want to TLDR: Go to Taco Bell. Starters: Chips and a salsa flight kinda thing. There was Pico. I didn't try, my son did and said it tasted like vinegar. There was a cheese sauce kinda dip thing. The cheese skin was already formed when it reached our table. The cheese sauce thing was alright. If I never have it again, I won't miss it. Then there was the guac. To the staff making the guac, don't use the avocado when it turns brown. That's not good, not appetizing. I found some none brown, and it was over powered by the cilantro. So, I guess when you cannot make guac, bury the taste in cilantro. Bottom-line on this: Avoid it. Save the cash. Dinner: Barbacoa street tacos. My son ordered these. Three of them. With a massive side of meh refried beans and a mound of dry "Mexican" rice. One bite was enough, he did not finish. Enchiladas: My wife ordered cheese enchiladas, and they showed up with the mountain of dry rice, and bland refried beans. She ate half of one, said they tasted funny. Dipped chips in the beans and ate that. She said she regretted coming to the restaurant. Not just the enchiladas. Chimichanga: Same rice. Same beans. Daughter said that she'd rather have Taco Bell. The majority of the meal was left untouched. Tacos Pastor: Same rice. Same beans. Bland. How do you make bland Pastor?! I ate them as I was hungry by this point, but something seemed off. Like they were phoned in. And...today at Sams Club, I found: Pastor Taco filling in the re-heat section of the Club. The shape of the cut? The same! In fact, I'd bet that that's what I was served. Reheated (in a microwave) Sam's Club Pastor. Then there's the service. Rude is the first impression, follow by total apathy. There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived, and only one person came in while we were there. The entire staff were buried on their phones. When they had to engage with us -- which was rare -- it was as if we were asking them to roll a boulder up the side of a mountain. They simply didn't want to be inconvenienced. They wanted to be tipped and that's all they cared about. The cost of the meal vs the reality of the meal: $100 for four people, for substandard, bland Mexican food, that could be outdone by a fast food outlet. Add in the apathetic staff, and I cannot stress strongly enough that you should avoid this place. Save your money. If you must have Mexican food in Oxford, there are other places. And all of them are better. This restaurant deserves to go out of business.

The place also has been open a little over a year. Made reservations online through open table which was easy - requested to sit outside. Came in on a Thursday at 5p and the parking lot was already getting full. We walked in and the hostess immediately asked if we had a reservation. She asked if sitting inside was okay and we told her no, we would wait to sit outside. The manager chimed in and validated our request to sit outside. Plenty of tables were open outside on the patio. So not sure about the waiter rotation or what. Tables and chairs outside were ok - our table was wonky and was moving both back and forth and side to side. The chairs were standard wicker uncomfortable patio chairs. Ok, my complaining ends here! The views are everything and lots of docking if you are coming to dine from the water. The staff, especially our waiter were amazing. Attentive and welcoming. Menu wise - a good amount of options. Drink wise - no mocktail options. Our waiter agreed that there should be some on the menu and maybe one day there will. Happy hour was going on but all the happy hour menus were located on the inside tables. So not sure if that is on purpose or what? We went with the spinach and artichoke dip and our waiter asked if we wanted it off the happy hour menu which is a smaller portion. We asked what else is on the happy hour menu and he said fries along with wings. We then put in an order of wings too. Food came out fast and our appetizers were excellent. The wings were a good size and the buffalo sauce had a good bite (no veggies or dip to cool you off though). The spinach and artichoke dip was creamy and chips were crunchy. Good portion even with it being a happy hour option. Entree wise got the fish and chips and smash burger. However, the smashburger had a black hair chilling on the burger. Our waiter made it right and could see the hair right away on why I sent it back. The re-fire of the burger didn't take too long. Food was excellent! The fish and chips had such a good crunchy breading and fish was delicious. The smashburger was meaty and cheesy. The patties were decently thick for being a smashburger. The fries were awesome! A good crunch and with a nice seasoning on them. Inside is clean and seems to have more comfortable seating. Bathrooms are behind the bar but super dark lighting wise inside. Our waiter apologized a few times for the hair on the burger and they also took the burger off our bill. Not necessary at all! But a nice gesture that didn't go unnoticed. Would absolutely come back!

They do have a lot of options for the filling here too, like grilled chicken, steak mushroom cheese (my 2nd choice, maybe next time), even grilled vegetable or cod! I am glad I stayed, I was actually in the process of walking out at about 10 pm because, even though the sign says seat yourself, there was no one who acknowledged or approached me at my booth for a good 10 minutes. I finally found the waiter seating a table at the outdoor patio, and I actually went up to him (with an apology for interrupting lol) and asked if he could come find me when he was done because I had been here a while! As my waiter, he was super nice and accomodating, so I don't know why he was not monitoring tables but, that is what I took away a star for. It is a dim sports bar but I like that there are 2 areas, there was live music in the bar area, and a separate quieter area on the other side. Now that the performance is over, the sound for the football game is in the bar area but there is no sound on the giant tv's in this area, which I totally appreciate! Over all I would stop by again if I'm in the area, but ignore the Seat Yourself sign and wander around until you find a server! PS Ummm just paid and the machine auto starts your tip option at 25%, with the other options being 22 and 20, so for a bar where a lot of people might be drunk checking out, that seems very sneaky and manipulative, I did not like that...
