If I could leave a ZERO star review, I would! I took my daughter for a Mommy & daughter pedi yesterday (5/23/23) at Rio Nails & Spa and had a horrible experience. I was looking forward to a fun experience with my 7 year old, as it was her first time at a salon for pampering, but was very disappointed. The nail techs were snappy with my daughter immediately (she was on her best behavior and did not do anything wrong). I blew it off as I dont know these people and how they typically talk and respond to clients. My nail tech was very interrupted during my pedi and I did not have her consistently work on my feet without getting up to walk across the room and start setting up for the next appointment. My nails weren't filed or treated or shaped whatsoever. She did scrub my heels and extra skin down. But immediately I was shocked at the gel paint job she did on the very first foot. The Polish didn't even go to the side of my nails and was spotty where she painted. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and waited to see what the end result was. maybe she was just building up the nail bed since we just took off my old gel nails. But no. It only got worse! Suddenly she said I was done and good to go. I looked down and was sick to my stomach. My nails literally looked horrible. my 9 yr old son could have done a better job! I tried to talk to her about how they looked and she was irritated at me. I pointed out how the paint was all over the outsides of my nail area, smothering the surrounding skin! and how the paint didn't even go to the sides on almost every single toe! she sat down and corrected where I pointed but was very irritated that i was making her fix it. In response to me making her do it again (I was being very kind about it by the way) she purposely splashed polish all over the place onto my nails and I told her it was puddled up on the corners and edges of my nails. She took out the little cuticle clippers and started SNIPPING OFF the surrounding polish! she told me they would get ruined because now the polish touches my cuticles. I told her i was not trying to be rude or offend her but that this was literally The Worst pedi I have ever had. she walked away and went to the register. She had quoted me when I called in $67.50 for me and my daughter for full pedi's plus me gel nails and her regular polish. She charged me $70 flat. I'm guessing because she knew I was NOT going to tip her so she charged extra for having to add more polish. I was extremely disappointed and upset with my horrible looking toes! I walked out the door with my daughter and that was when I looked at HER toes! To my utter dismay, her toes looked just as bad! An older male tech had done my daughter's toes and they had the same results. Literally my daughter paints her nails better than what she had on her toes. She had regular polish done on her nails and it did not even cover her entire nail. On. every. single. toe. I was shocked! I had instructed the nail techs that I wanted my daughter to get the whole 9 yards experience of a pedi with the massage and spa soak and so they quoted me $15 for her pedi plus $2.50 for the polish. I said that was perfect. Well she did not get the massage or special treatment. They let her soak in the warm water and then painted her nails. She didn't NOT get a full pedi experience. I am extremely disappointed and embarrassed about our experience and how our toes look! I have never had a bad pedi before and thought people made it up when they did. But Rio Nails and Spa literally did a horrific job on our nails! I'm not being even a little bit dramatic. I will Never return here and I will never recommend this place to anyone! Also, the fact that I was charges extra for a horrible job, I feel strongly that this place is not the place for Anyone to go! I am all about trying new places and supporting businesses and hard workers. This is not a place I will support again. Probably the worst experience I've ever had in a nail salon. I walk in needing just two nails fixed (I broke them lifting things at work) before I could even tell the only man who even acknowledged me walking in the door what I needed done, he told me to "go wait over there" and pointed at the chairs by the door. About 10 minutes go by before anyone asks me what I need. I say I need broken nails fixed. The man asks me if I got them done there, I said no. Without even looking at my nails he said "we don't have that color, so we can't help you." It was black acrylic with silver glitter. Isn't this a nail salon??? And then I asked if he could just do black with the silver top coat and he said no, and asked me to leave? Like I was inconveniencing him. Terrible customer service and the only reason I can really think of for the way they acted is my appearance. I wouldn't waste my money here. This was my first time here and most certainly will not be my last. I had TJ (I think that was his name, I'm sorry if I'm wrong) but he was AMAZING! My nails look perfect and we're exactly what I wanted. I told him I wanted them short even though I got tips and he did exactly that without trying to force me to get them longer (which I appreciated). He finished my appointment with a hot towel and massage which most salons don't even do anymore. He took his time and I didn't feel rushed. Even the owner was so nice and welcoming. The first time I visited this salon, I needed to get my nails done for a business trip. I had been to Ulta to pick up a last minute purchase and saw the salon. It was a Monday after work and mostly empty. I got acrylics with shellac. The nail tech wasn't chatty, but was friendly when I asked questions. I watched the employees work well as a unit to clean the salon prior to closing and was quite impressed. The nail tech did an excellent job. I went almost a month before needing to get my nails filled. I looked forward to returning to Rio Nails. I was eager to have a new top notch salon. Unfortunately, I returned on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy, but there were more than 2 customers (maybe 6. I was seated with a female nail tech who seemed friendly enough to start. The whole salon was chatting and laughing about one of the customer's daughters. She was about 2 years old and walking around like she owned the place. I was pleased to see how friendly everyone seemed. I continued having a conversation with my nail tech. The nail tech sitting next to her chose to join in the conversation. I was fine with that until she started cutting me off and then making comments in Vietnamese. This continued a few times. I would say something. She would cut me off and proceed in Vietnamese. Finally, I communicated that her behavior offended me. We all stopped talking to one another. The Vietnamese discussion picked up in full force. I am not suggesting that they were talking about me. But I don't know what they were talking about because I don't speak Vietnamese. It is culturally insensitive to speak another language loudly across the salon that half the people in the space can't understand. It wasn't a quick question that admittedly could have been easier for them to ask in their native tongue. It was purely exclusionary. When I mentioned it to my nail tech, she said that she didn't know it was culturally insensitive. When asked how long she'd been in the US, she indicated 20 years. She didn't know? No one had ever said anything before! In US culture or at least Texas culture, there is a belief that the the "customer is always right." H-E-B does it well. QT gas stations do it well. Buccees does it well. Quality customer service breeds loyalty. This experience was not quality. My nail tech's technical ability was fine. However, she gave me the nail look she wanted to give me - not what I requested. I prefer square shaped nails. I find they are stronger and wear better over time. Apparently, the nail tech disagrees. I was getting round nails whether I wanted them or not. Then she asks, "How do they look?" They are fine. I wanted the shape for which I originally asked. To get it now, I would have to have her remove the tips and start all over. Maybe if her coworker had not it been so snarky and constantly interjecting as I was talking with my nail tech, she would have been able to listen to me when I told her what I wanted. Rio Nails will definitely NOT be my new nail salon!!! read more

I was staying at a hotel across the street and was hesitant to come here because it only had 3.5 stars BUT 4 on google search... I saw the reviews feed like 4 or 5 years old. Also, while I was waiting for them to dry, I messed up a nail. Though they were nice about fixing it, they didn't fix it... they just added more clear coat but the polish was still messed up. Y'all I cried. I was humiliated in front of customers by both a man who usually checks people out and the tech (Mimi I believe). I returned because of broken my nail about 24 hours after getting them done. After arriving for a nail repair I was willing to pay for I mentioned what I needed to one of the staff. She recognized me from before (she apologized for my tech walking off on me the days before saying her sugar was low and she needed to eat so don't be mad* remember this fact*) . A few of them began to speak in another language and a man came up and told me that someone may fix my nail, but they wouldn't do the design (I had French tip curved). Mimi, who had two women at her station yells out I not do design for her. He tells me it would be about a 3 hour wait to be serviced. He then admits Mimi said she didn't want to service me because I was difficult. Loudly-She lied and tells her customers in English that days before she spent like 3 hours on my nails gave me a discount and I didn't like it. That day I told her I Liked it and she said that SHE didn't and kept removing my polish for my French tips in her OWN. I thought overall she did a good job. What needed to be corrected, like crooked lines- I asked about. After awhile I'm the one who noticed how long she was taking. I didn't expect to be away from my babies that long trust me. That was unprofessional for her to gossip about me to those women & tell the WHOLE shop she's not dealing with me-and for that man to deny me- o yeah he later said we can't service you when I asked if that was what he was saying. The girl at the front was confused- asking me if they are saying there's a 3 hour wait and I said no that's probably just for me! I asked if I could speak to her cause I think she did a good job overall and this must be a misunderstanding. He said he'd call the "owner".. yeah they told me days before that she was the owner smh.. not that I asked. They proceed to take Every. Single. Person who walked in. I was going to walk out, but I really didn't want to have a broken nail in a fresh set of nails and I hadn't gotten nails in years. Heck I was glad to get dolled up for photos especially after just having a baby. When a customer came to get a certificate and Mimi came up I stood up and politely asked if I could talk to her. She looked irritated. I said hey my nails were pretty, that She walked off on Me that day but I even still tipped her for the job she did, and I just wanted to get my nail fixed and to Please not do me like that. She said OK! sit at my station (at station #4). As I was passing people and sat down, the weight of what happened really hit me, and with mask on.. I began to cry silently.. I felt embarrassed, humiliated, silly for still being there. The man came to the station, remember he was calling that "owner" (like 20 minutes before but really wasn't). He said he would file my nail and then at some point of noticing how hurt I seemed said Sorry- the lady would have done it but she really needed food and something similar to the story they told to cover for Mimi that one day. When Mimi came over she started but then said O- sorry don't cry you'll make me cry. Starts patting at my face and handed me half a paper towel then shared to the lady next to her and her guest she's crying she'll make me cry. I had no words. I patted at my eyes and willed myself to stop letting tears fall. It was my mission to be as polite as possible and get outta there. I just could not be the woman of color who told them off that day. I just hated that all was even happening. She started filing an Extra nail with a design, even though I said no don't- but she wanted to redo and make it pretty and fix my strip. See that's exactly what she was doing that other day- that's gonna take more time I thought but I met her do her thing hoping she wasn't slick trying to remove my design as a punishment. It wasn't- and she redid both nails. It looked nice, but my mask was soaked, I felt terrible about that experience, and cautioned how I reacted because I don't want to be THAT girl- the one who everyone would expect to act up. I wasn't charged- but remember... I would have paid. Her and that man humiliated tf out of me. It was so undeserving. As I left I turned to pay and ste said you can go. She greeted the woman at the front. I said Mimi- you humiliated me and I'm so embarrassed. As she says sorry again she's pushing me toward the door. Really.. I came home and had to really gather myself before I really greeted my husband and babies and visiting mother. Never again would I go there. I didn't tell my fam what happened in detail, but funny enough, when I told my mom I just didn't have that great of an experience and was humiliated- her response was "Awww, that's not good. I just moved down here and Was recommended this place by a coworker. Walked in and everything was fine at first. I needed my set redone. The lady that did my nails was alright. She seemed a little rushed and like she didn't really want to do it. When she went to put new tips on she put the new ones over the ones I already had on basically. So now they're super lumpy and she only did 2 layers of the dip powder so they're super thin. Got home and less than 30 mins later one broke. Got my nails done here last week for the first time. Within a week 9 of them have started to lift, 4 of them to the point of almost popping off altogether. I decided to go ahead give them the opportunity to fix them. Since this was a brand new fresh set, I expected them to be more than cooperative. New nails should not pop off so easily as we all know if quality products have been used. The manager told me that it wasn't their fault and told me that I shouldn't press on them and they won't pop off. He kept asking me what I wanted him to do about it. I responded and simply told him that since I just had them applied less than a week ago that he should fix them.
