I am a bit picky about my tacos. Originally from NM, I live in England, where, needless to say, a real taco is hard to find. Visiting home (real *Mexican* tacos are also hard to find in *New* Mexico, where the cuisine is dominated by a distinctive Spanish influence--I love it but not for its tacos), I hit Rigo's tacos on my way in from the ABQ Sunport. It's just a few minutes' drive from the Car Rental Center and open late, so, convenient for someone coming off a long flight hungry but after restaurant hours.
Well, after nearly two weeks in NM, trying out quite a few taco joints (also trying some tacos in San Francisco on my way here), I have to say Rigo's is the BEST I have had in a LONG while. (I haven't been to Mexico for a long time, so am lacking that comparison.) The tacos tinga, asada (or carnitas), birria, and pastor (one of each in a four-taco plate) were EXCELLENT. So succulent and flavorful, I didn't need to ask for extra salsa like I usually do to mask somewhat flavorless and greasy meat.
The taco pastor, complete with pineapple slice, put me right into TACO HEAVEN. Also, they didn't overload the tortillas like some taquerias do. It was just the right amount of fresh ingredients in each taco (with onion, cilantro, the works) and an explosion of flavor in every bite. Thank you, Rigo's! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more
