Saw this show in SF over the weekend and had such an enjoyable time. The combination of George Méliès films shown in the charming Marina Theatre filled me with amazement and laughter, and the three talented musicians playing 25+ instruments during the program was impressive (I didn't actually count, but the show description says they use 50 instruments). This included the unique sounds of the aquaphone, melodica, gong cymbal, and glass harmonica (wine glasses filled with water).
Right in the Eye is more than just a movie-concert. It's a delightful silent film production with extraordinary live accompaniment, great sound and light effects, and a little bit of history to be learnt as well, with audience members captivated by early cinematography from the late 19th century and beyond. The event this past Saturday was 1.5 hours long (including a late start time and encore after the credits). I was in awe from the moment it began, and didn't want it to end. The magical creation by Jean-François Alcoléa is truly one-of-a-kind and will take you to another world. I had a memorable experience and can't wait for the troupe to return so I can see it again. read more
