Cons - Couldn't fix misfire problem with 2000 Civic. - Shop and office could be cleaner, but maybe that is a pro and part of the charm. Background on the Civic: I was having it serviced exclusively at W & B along with changing the oil myself. I started getting an occasional odd misfire when accelerating at low RPM. They changed some electrical components and it seemed fixed (or at least greatly improved) for a couple months, but then returned badly. After that they couldn't fix it. I went to another shop in frustration and they couldn't fix it either. I ended up trading in for a new car, even though the Civic had another 5-10 years left in it if that issue was fixed.

On days like today when it's -40°C and everyone has a broken car, they take time away from their lives and their families, working late, just to help make sure their friends and loyal customers are safe. And they do their due diligence to learn about your make and model of car, so they can let you know what are common problems to expect, and what may be needed in a month or a year so you're not caught by surprise. Best friends a gal could hope for, and added bonus that they keep me alive on the road every day. Great value, too. I was driving a lemon a few years ago, and Dave said, "I've run a cost analysis on how much you pay to fix your car every year compared to an average family. As your mechanic, I would love you to keep fixing this car. As your friend, please stop fixing this car." That's the kind of honesty you can expect at Banno Auto.

I arranged to have my brother do the work. Upon doing it he discovered the work was already complete. My brother called and confirmed that Dave Banno worked on my vehicle for free as a gift. He replaced three of my brakes and did an oil change and washed my vehicle. At first I was so grateful. I started spending time with him and gave him a Christmas gift. He was really nice at first but after five days of spending time with him, one night he slapped and choked me. I also recently noticed that he put a sticker on the back of my car that is very difficult to take off, advertising Banno Auto. He did this without consent also. I wouldn't put it passed him to say that I stopped spending time with him for a different reason other than the fact that he did things to my property without my permission, assaulted me, and has been trying to buy me, manipulate me and guilt me into spending more time with him. I really hate that I have to write this but I believe that if I don't he may do this and maybe worse things to other women.

FYI: I had a very disappointing experience at Westmount…read moreAuto Centre( 2001 Bowness Rd NW, Calgary), specifically dealing with Omar. After my car (2007 Honda CR-V) sat at his shop for three weeks, with the repair timeline being moved multiple times, I was finally quoted $730 for the job, including the diagnostic and labor. That sounded fair, so I agreed. However, when I came to pick up the vehicle, I was presented with a final bill of $1,137.29, that's 55.79% more than what we discussed. When I questioned the increase, Omar claimed I had agreed to the new price, which I absolutely did not. A proper quote should reflect the actual cost unless something unexpected comes up, which was not the case here. To make matters worse, I asked him to show proof of the parts pricing, particularly the starter ($425.31), and he refused to provide any documentation. That's a huge red flag for any honest business. Also, the $165 diagnosis fee felt excessive, especially when the problem was already obvious (starter failure). In my experience, this was not a transparent or trustworthy transaction. I cannot recommend Westmount Auto or Omar's services to anyone. If you value honest pricing and clear communication, stay away.
