IT IS NEVER OK TO SHOW UP AT SOMEONES DOOR BECAUSE THEY POSTED A REVIEW YOU DON'T LIKE. DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN. Its an exhausting thing when your contractor complains every day that he is making no money on you and giving you a great deal. The lying: I have dozens of excuses that I took screen shots of from both jobs. Not worth it. Lots of people can build a fence. I contracted with him to have him build me a mailbox and a railing so my Dad whom I take care of could easily get out of the front gate. I was sent phenomenal pictures of mailbox housings and I told him I trusted him to build me something wonderful. What I got is literally an afternoon boyscout project (took them like 2 weeks though). I was charged $2500 for this, and he also returned the metal roof I was charged for. The railing he told me was impossible to complete; so that was abandoned (save for 2 giant lag bolts still left in the concrete. Oh yeah, and there are still 2 ladders, paint buckets and garbage in my yard 3 months later. I am a real customer, with copies of contracts. My Dad has heart disease and diabetes and has never been to the mailbox in the 5 years I have taken care of him. He did not sign a contract with you, I did. So coming to my house to harass him is a special type of low. I have already paid someone to fix it. I do not wish any further business or contact whatsoever. Yelp is a place for honest reviews. That is mine. Update: He tries and fails to discredit every negative review. As if people are willing to take time out of their day to write a fake review of some company they have never heard of. I edited my review to respond to his original response which was flagged and removed from Yelp. He posted another response and is obviously still trying to master the alphabet. You can actually read his response all by itself with no reference point and see the workings of his mind. "Not up to code" is his pocket excuse for not being able to perform a mundane task. He used the same excuse when he punctured my friends gas line. To sum up, the 1-star review if for leaving a heaping mound of garbage in my yard, failing to build the railing I contracted him for whilst permanently damaging my concrete, leaving two giant lag bolts buried in my stairs, for sending pictures of a mailbox cover and then building something incredibly basic in its place for $2500, for leaving a canopy with sawblades in my back yard for over a week without showing up to work (I have dogs), for constantly complaining that about not making any money on the job and for the barrage of lies and excuses made, and most of all for not once owning up to any of these mistakes. Might well be good at putting up fences, horrible at communication. Tried to get Ryan to quote on a (large) deck/ fencing project because of the positive reviews here. After having sent detailed photos / explanation via email 3 days went by before a response that clearly meant he hadn't bothered to read the email. Then he suggested coming to see the site in 3 weeks time ... at least I think that's what he was suggesting, all of his emails and text messages were pretty hard to decipher. Then today I get a string of text messages where he appears to be offended that I'd have spoken to other contractors in the weeks in between, claims he won't compete on price, asked to remind him if I sent him any email ... and some other words which I have no idea what to make of. Cherry on top is that clearly a lot of others have had the same experience (read the other reviews) and the way Ryan has dealt with this is to accuse them all of lying. Edit - Oh well, you can see from the response to this all the issues I and others have mentioned. Response is full of contradictions like 'no one is accusing you of lying' whilst accusing me of lying. For the record this job was never turned down by Ryan, the last text message I had from him before letting him know I'd lost trust was: "I'm sorry Ben, I'm only excepting consultations for customers ready to hire ,I'd like to give you a price first then if it sounds reasonable we can meet for contracts. I'd just need to k I'd design, length, address, etc, if you emailed me send me the sent date and we can chat about it now if you have time, I'm available" So, still very much interested in the job. He also didn't once mention moving, the initial contact email I sent was on a Thursday and this was his offer to meet emailed on March 19th: "Sure would we meet the 6th after 6pm" ... I guess it's possible that's *not* an offer to meet ... hard to tell ... read more

Review is based off a bid only. After seeing the pretty pictures online I was stoked to have Riggins be able to come discuss the job on short notice. Charged $50 for the bid. The bid was $22,000. All the other bids I got were between $9-12K. I ended up hiring a hourly laborer and paying $3,500 including materials. Didn't end up with as perfect a fence, but certainly never would have been satisfied with 20 grand. If you charge that much more than your competitors why do need to charge for the bid... read more

I am updating my review to dispute this businesses claim that I am a fake review. He is correct that we did not contract with him. Solely because his professionalism was bottom of the barrel. In my original review, I pasted his own response, directly from his yelp response,that all of West Seattle and South Seattle were crime ridden. Read it for yourself. I've never had a problem with a business not servicing specific areas for whatever reason they choose. I do, however, take offense to a business that already had my address info from the form I filled out on Yelp, to ask for the info again and then insult me and a entire area as crime ridden. I am sorry if he has experienced a problem in the past in my area, but you do not have to be rude. Even the best neighborhoods have crime, so don't give me that crap. All he had to say was that he didn't serve that area. He further insulted me by posting his response saying I am a fake review, filing fake reviews, with fake email addresses. Yelp emailed me about his comment to my review so, trust me, I am a real person who had a real experience with this business and it was not a favorable experience. Lastly, why does it take him almost a year to respond to my review. I posted this in April of 2016. It is now almost March of 2017. Ryan replaced my fence and back stairs. I went with Riggins Construction because unlike a lot of fencing companies, Ryan is a general contractor who can go beyond just the fence. Ryan was able to replace the stairs and even fix some rotted plywood and siding we found below. I was a bit worried about the schedule when there was a lag between the fence demo and the start of replacement due to some delays with a previous job, but Ryan worked extra hard to get the job done ending up well ahead of the agreed end date. Quality, budget and schedule are the three keys of getting the job done. Usually it's best two out of three, but Ryan managed to hit all three. read more

We thought Ryan was going to do a much needed deck project at our home. He was professional and very enthusiastic when he came out to meet with us. From there, things became rather iffy as it was often hard to reach Ryan and receive return phone calls or e-mails. When we were finally able to pin him down again, he said he was interested in the project (repeatedly) and gave us a written bid. We were ready to move forward from there and he was coming out to meet with us for a final walkthrough. At the last minute, Ryan texted us to say he would not be doing the project as he was receiving jobs that were double the price of ours. In the meantime, we had turned down other contractors' bids and now we are back to square one. This is not the way to do business and we would not recommend Riggins Construction. read more

Ryan and his crew did a great job on my new wood fence. He demolished my rotten old fence and replaced it with a a beautiful new cedar one. The first thing I noticed about Ryan was how friendly and easy going he was. I felt like he was listening to what I wanted and responded with very good ideas and feedback. It wasn't the typical bullish contractor talk. A second important thing to me and what Ryan was good at was communication. He communicated delivery times, start times, and job progress each day. Another important aspect to Ryan's crew is that they didn't treat my yard like any ordinary "jobsite." They were careful of plants, trash, and cleanup each day. Finally, after the job was complete I was going to water my plants and noticed that I couldn't find my garden hose sprayer. I called Ryan to see if he had accidentally packed it up with his tools and he responded that one of his workers had accidentally stepped on and broke it and had another one on order already from Amazon.com. Overall, I am happy with Ryan and his work and am glad to have a beautiful, sturdy cedar fence again and he made it as easy as possible to have it done. read more

They DO NOT serve the surrounding Seattle metro area!! So this Yelp site says that Riggins Construction serves "Seattle and Surrounding area" - NOT TRUE!! (Perhaps someone should change it??) I just had a bit of a debate with Ryan over whether "Surrounding area" and "Greater Seattle Area" includes Kent. He claims that "Surrounding area" only includes the City of Seattle. Kent is not part of the "surrounding area" in his mind. Work with me here - I have lived here 32 years and never heard of "surrounding area" refer to only Seattle. Sounds like a cheap ploy to get people to call him. I normally wouldn't have written a review over something so trivial, but if he can't tell the difference between a city and the surrounding area, I don't lend him much credibility. read more

We had a smallish length of fence to replace (50ft) and had some trouble finding willing fence builders. Ryan was more than willing and did exactly what we wanted. We added a gate along the fence and it is very nice. He is a very careful worker and picked out the best wood so the end product not only looked good but was high quality. His workers worked very hard and completed tasks quickly. Ryan is a perfectionist so not surprising to hear he replaced a few warped boards on another project as reported on yelp. I would highly recommend Riggins Construction. I initially emailed Ryan through Yelp and he responded right away. Which I cannot say for most contractors these days. We quickly set up a time for him to swing by and give a bid. After meeting Ryan, I didn't even bother getting a second bid with anyone else. I hired Ryan to install a horizontal ipe fence. I was a bit worried because ipe is a very hard wood and challenging to work with. But Ryan is very experienced, and he and his crew handled the job easily. The fence fully met and often exceeded my expectations for quality craftsmanship. There are very few contractors who hold themselves to as high a standard as Ryan does. He takes pride in his work, and even when he knew that I would let some things slide, he always did what it took--whether it's moving a post or replacing a board--to maintain the high standards he sets for himself. Ryan and his team designed and built a gorgeous fence to surround our front yard in Queen Anne. He was timely, accommodating to both my (sometimes extensive) decision making AND my small kids. He was so lovely to work with in every way. Called him back the same Saturday after work and left message to tell him what days I'm free for an estimate, No response. Called him Sunday, and Monday again, no response. I understand it may be a busy season right now, but in my opinion a 5 star company will take a minute out of their busy day to call a potential customer back to let them know if they can take the job or not. Still reasonably happy with the workmanship of our fence after a little more than a year of being constructed. But the narrow planks that were used aren't as elegant or sturdy as some of the wider planks we're seeing being used for some other homes. Also several of the planks had a number of knots with some of these popping out over time and leaving "peep" holes here and there. read more
