Their training is backed by science, and they teach along with training so you understand the why behind what you're doing. I lost over 100lbs doing personal training with Jon. Once I hit that goal I decided to try competing in powerlifting, something I never would have imagined myself doing! All the members are great. It may sound corny but it's really like a family. We're there for each other through everything. Since starting my fitness journey I have thought many times how happy I am that I ended up here instead of with any other gym or trainer. I used to hate working out and now coming to the gym is the best part of my day. Making this investment in yourself is the best decision you'll ever make.

You can even get a 1 day pass online and not have to make actual contact nor is it expected probably. For the monthly pass, with no enrollment fees, mind you, you would need to make an appointment the first time around. If you can make it at least 5 times to the gym within the month, then it is worth getting the 24-7 access by the month. Most gyms wanted to charge me an enrollment fee for a partial one month period, and it was just not worth it to do that for me. Most gyms don't have 24-7 access and those that do will tack on this enrollment fee. I was planning to work out manually but then I had thought of this gym and tried asking and glad I did! There are showering facilities which I wouldn't have expected, but it's super nice to know that I don't have to leave sweaty and head straight back home if I don't want to. Definitely a potential incentive to keep working out and makes it feel less like a stressful event. One of the showers doesn't even work currently, but there are two others that do. The toilet paper rolls look worn out and it feels like if they were fixed, some musclehead might accidentally break it again by pulling too hard on it. Another one, during one time I was there, the water was accidentally left on and I turned it off, I could see how one might be in a hurry and not have closed the faucet all the way. You just try to do the right thing with minor things like that. Most clients probably would prefer to drive home and use their own comfortable shower rather than the one provided here. There are also a few bottles of wipes provided, but I was probably the only one who would use them or maybe they would only be used by others if sweat got on the equipment. There's a whole array of apparel from online that can be shipped directly to you and pictures of history and pride of the gym and the owner's past interests and successes. I can't fully appreciate the equipment that is here nor understand how to use much of it. I tried to look what equipment was what and how to use it when I could and sometimes I just did things by looking and feeling them out enough but making sure I could handle the weights and such if things didn't quite go as I expected. The only thing I wish this gym and most gyms could have is an optional local community event to get together and just chit chat once in awhile, maybe like every month or 2 or 3 months. I have run into a few that do this or did this once in a rare occasion to try it out, but it is a way to try to build community so that I'm not just showing up and leaving. Gyms that have classes, as I can't make those regularly, I'm not able to socialize that way. So, the classes have become not a big deal to me. The personal trainers I've tried at other gyms is hit or miss, more miss The trainers I tend to like to work with the least are the ones that have been hired through a mainstream gym because many of these people only want to work with certain clientele and they may do things like not show up to their appointment or put someone else in place when that is not the standard practice at most gyms (and this probably should be the standard practice at most mainstream gyms.) They are trying to go for the "relational" connection building, but most gyms are way too transient for this on both the client and staff sides to be effective. A few reviews have said that one can just ask others for help. While I probably could've, I did feel like as a non-jock, I would be intruding on someone else's workout and if I asked them something, what could I offer them back that they would want? Sometimes, a "thank you" might be enough, but I guess living in this world and how it's changed and socially, not for the better, I feel uncomfortable without more context. Even something as simple as I recognize that brand name on your shirt or something "generic" but thoughtful like that could be enough. I think there are people who are probably really nice, but some that would be super annoyed. You don't always know 100% but you just get that vibe. Even things more in my space and YelpE, and even in things where I definitely level off enough with others, I have not built the tight friendships one might expect. A few people did say "hi" when I was least expecting it, and one person ended up going into the gym even thanking me for "letting him in", but I wasn't actually letting him in and I didn't want to create an unnecessary conflict. I also just wanted to leave the gym at that time too. It was safe to assume he had a valid pass and just wasn't finding his pass or working the system right. This slew of gym types is typically less advertised I believe as a Baltimore friend thought this type of gym didn't exist near him.

This place is cash only and let's you pay lump sum and will waive enrollment fee if so. More places are starting to offer the lump sum option now instead of me having to ask for it. I was looking for a gym for one month but it is tough because either I am paying an enrollment fee AND one month which isn't worth it at all, or I pay by the class and some places have very limited hours. I could probably do Planet again or even Orange Theory but I was hoping to find a more local place. If this place was a closer commute for me, it would be worth it for me to sign up for a year. I want a self paced place since most places are either you get pushed and if you take a break or go too slow, you have to leave or are asked what is wrong with you. Everyone has different needs and wants. Or I do not have a budget for a personal trainer and some of the ones I have had at chain gyms are really particular about who they want to work with, and paying in full beforehand is not always enough sadly. I have a gym reimbursement fund but I have used it up for the year and that is a factor that is important to me too. At the end of the day, I understand that part of a gym experience (for me) is picking a place that will not overly stress me out. Accessibility and getting for what I paid's worth and all the peculiarities are important to me. You can't get 24-7 access unless you pay for a full year. This was probably the biggest clincher for me. Also as it is a small community atmosphere gym, holiday hours are not necessarily reflected on signs and website. You just have to ask or make it work. It is also cash only. 12/22/23 addition: When I first came to ask about enrollment options during hours, they were closed early for that and I got an announcement through the Ring bell to come back the next day, which thankfully I could. When I came back the next day, I was told a little story about how a "bum" came up one time just fiddling around with the door like nobody's business. Then, when the owner spoke through the Ring bell, the "bum" thought Jesus had spoken to him and he behaved himself after that! The joy of technology!! In my opinion, this is a good gym choice if you want a self paced workout and can pay in full for the year for the 24-7 access. Also, if you aren't looking for something that has a clean and polished look, which I don't need but I am open to either way, this is a good choice.

Bathing suit is required for the hot tubs. No more towels, you have to bring your own. The gym is more stripped down and basic feeling since the Y took over. No more broken water fountains, clogged sinks, gross showers. A lot less tvs on the cardio floor. The best thing about this Y is the open space. It never feels crowded anymore. I recently went to Paoli and their cardio floor is so packed and tight. Indoor track is still amazing as the 90s. 5 laps is a mile, it's the biggest indoor track I've ever seen. No one looks where they are going. That is my biggest annoyance. Teens walking with their faces buried in their phones.
