I am new to this YMCA so time will tell. Really enjoy the yoga classes so far and overall everyone who is in the classes seem very friendly

Have been a member since 2018 & I really like the variety of group classes and the teachers are really excellent. But this gym has become way too overcrowded. This winter most people I have talked to have become sick with colds, the flu, covid, bad coughs & many are attributing it to the y. The classes are jam packed with people, the main cardio room is very tight with machines way too close together. Either cap the classes or bring back a mask mandate because more and more people I talk to are thinking of leaving this gym. But the y doesn't probably care. They will just get more members through all their advertising. Roxborough ymca is the best. Small community gym and never overcrowded. Also Rocky Run is more spacious. read more

The YMCA has the best amenities of any gym that I can think of. They have something for everyone. Treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, cables, machines, cross trainers, basketball, indoor walking/running track, swimming pool... They have it all. Oh, you say you prefer classes? Got some good news there, as well. Spin class, yoga, meditation, body pump, dance, Tai chi, water aerobics... There's probably not a class you could want that the Y doesn't have. But what sets the Y apart from other gyms? *Leans in and whispers* The YMCA is a nonprofit that has life-changing programs that are free for the user at the point of service. And THAT'S why the YMCA is so much more expensive than all the other gyms out there. Your monthly payment is helping provide much needed services for people in need. And if you can't afford the monthly fee, then talk to the person at the desk. They'll work with you. The Y is the best gym out there, by far. There's really no comparison. Thieves steal stuff from the locker room and the staff is not helpful at all despite the ubiquitous surveillance cameras. They make you burden the township police department when stuff could easily be handled in-house. read more

Great customer service--I've never had to go far to ask someone a question. Plus, everyone has been so nice. The equipment is kept pretty clean (if you're not wiping your equipment down after you use it, you're the worst). Locker rooms are decent. There aren't paper towels and rags strewn everywhere like some other gyms I've been to. The lockers themselves, though, are quite skinny. I have a fairly large gym bag and I have to squish it to get it to fit. I don't use any of the classes or other amenities, but I have noticed the whirlpool essentially never works lol. I will say, though, the addition of the power racks (which I appreciate having) has caused the dumbbell lifting area to be extremely difficult to work out in. It's so tight that I feel like I'm going to hit the person next to me when doing chest or shoulder presses. I tried doing chest flies and got bumped 2 times, stepped on once, and farted on. This means people are taking dumbbells to other areas of the gym to workout (which I understand), but that means the 15s will be gone for 20 minutes and I need that weight for my last set. Or, you have the people who don't walk their weights back and then it takes a while for the staff to bring them back. Also, this gym gets extremely busy from 3PM-7PM--HOLY SHIT does it get busy. I've started going later in the day instead of right after work now because it was taking me almost two hours to workout. I've had to wait 10-15 minutes for a squat rack or free bench in the dumbbells area. Same thing with treadmills too. Oh, also, no Stairmasters which I think is weird since even Planet Fitness and other gyms have those. read more

This is clearly the nicest and best equipped gym within many miles. Every type of machine, class, pool, and track that you could possibly imagine. I won't fill pages with a long list. And of course everything is brand new. Do you feel a "but" coming? Actually there are a couple- * The parking lot has become insane at peak times. I'm sorry, that's wrong. I need a stronger word. How about horrendous. Abysmal is also appropriate. It's embarrassing to have a facility this new and beautiful and spend your life going around and around and around as you try to park. This parking disaster has become the talk of Havertown. * It can be expensive. If you are a member of some specially group, and there are a bunch, that gets you a discount, good for you. If you are just an average adult it's going to cost you $100 to join and $61 a month! That's a good chunk of change for most folks and just about everybody else in the area is cheaper. So it's the best gym in the area if you can ever find a place to park and it's going to put a dent in your checking account. Life is all about decisions and this one is more difficult than many. It's sad to see that this beautiful facility is averaging three stars from my fellow Yelpers. read more

This review is based on a personal experience I had not on facility. I have been a member for over 3 years and really enjoy coming to such a nice & clean facility. I am venting.....arrived at the Y today and there was a lady ahead of me asking several questions. The young man at the entrance was trying to assist her...while distancing I peeked my head to get his attention.... The women tured around and said " I will be done in a minute" I turned around looked outside....she asked the young man, Do you want to take care of her"? The young man said if you don't mind? ( Wow really!! so many things wrong with that exchange of words ) The women proceeded to say " your welcome" I didn't bother to look at her. I said hello to the young man and thanked him for check-in (so she knows I do have manners) Long story short some people have a sense privilege( white or otherwise) and I refuse to tolerate it. My passive/aggressive point was made without a ruckus. read more

The victim was a 2-year-old girl, who was killed after being struck at about 12:30 p.m., police said. The child may have walked away from her mother while in the parking lot and sat on the ground between cars, police said. The driver of the striking vehicle pulled into the parking stall and struck the child. The driver said he never saw the child, police said. The child was transported to Lankenau Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Both the victim and the driver are Haverford Township residents, according to police." I had to complete the gym trifecta before I could write a review: take a class, jump in the pool & hot tub, and use the machines. This YMCA was pretty great on all three accounts. First, when you enter the gym, it feels more like a hotel, with the modern, open, airy lobby and the super professional staff manning the front desk. When we first arrived, we were greeted by a very warm manager who took us through the process as their very first Global Fit customers. Global Fit is an amazing benefit that Penn offers their staff, which offers discounts to many gyms across the country. With the discount, this gym is about $45/per person a month which isn't bad at all. There are two indoor pools for adults: the lap pool which appears to be fairly serious business, and the "warm" pool which honestly could have been warmer, but was nice and spacious. We got out when it started to fill up with a few too many other swimmers, but when we first arrived we were the second and third people to jump in. The hot tub is large and glorious. The locker rooms are standard, nice, modern and spacious. They offer plenty of lockers and are BYO locks. I like that there are separate kids' locker rooms. I took an "express" spinning (or "cycling" in YMCA terms) class on my second visit here. The cycles are all super modern and even have a digital display to show you how much resistance you currently have which is fantastic. The woman who ran the class was friendly and efficient. I felt like I got a really great workout. Yesterday, I stopped in to use the machines. There must be about a hundred machines in the room. I chose an elliptical. The digital display which allows you to watch TV or youtube was a little difficult to use and to see (a lot of glare from the large windows in the room). I may try out the machines in front of the windows next time. It could be kind of fun to watch the goings on in Haverford while I work out! And finally, there has been plenty of parking, the three times I've gone to this YMCA, even at 5pm on a Wednesday (a very prime time). There was a man outside guiding the cars where to go in order to make parking even easier and there are multiple lots now. So I think that they have improved the situation mentioned in multiple reviews here. read more

This review only pertains to the pool. Smiles, laughter, frolicking beware! You are not welcome here. I realize there has to be rules and regulations at a community pool. I'm all about kid safety... but this is militant. From overzealous lifeguards, to futile rules and regulations, this place is screaming for new management (although not sure how that works at the ymca organization)... Can we talk about the slide and how it's NEVER open? Oh wait, I think it's open on Sundays. Does anyone know? I've been a member for a few years and have NEVER seen anyone go down it. The kids don't even ask about it anymore. In fact, I used to like take my children often however now they equate going there to eating a head of broccoli. "Please don't make us go to that boring pool". So we don't. I do think this YMCA is a fantastic facility otherwise and has a lot to offer people of all ages. read more

I recently canceled my membership with this Y because of two main reasons; parking and over-crowding (even during non-peak times). I want to work-out to relieve stress and live a healthy lifestyle, but it was awful to try and park at this gym and use the equipment. I often got more stressed just trying to find parking and use the equipment or find a spot in a class. Classes at previous Y's I belonged too would offer the same class multiple times a day, but this one isn't like that. Some classes may only be offered once a week. This gym is catered to families with children, not a younger child-free couple who just wants to get in a good workout. read more

Terrible customer service. They don't care about full paying families. Programs are sub par. Nice gym for weight training and cardio but there are plenty of gyms that cost less and have better customer service. The facility is brand new and very nice. They have everything you would want in a gym: cardio equipment, weights, pools, two group exercise rooms for classes and a cycling studio. I love the body pump classes, cycling classes and the total fitness class. The place is definitely made for people with kids as there are many programs and facilities available for children including babysitting. For this reason the place is always very crowded and full of kids which is not something I like in a gym. The parking situation is less than optimal especially at peak times. I think they have too many members for the amount of parking available. It is overpriced and once again discriminated against people without kids and anyone who is not a student or senior citizen. For that reason I am looking for another gym but I did like the y while I lived locally because it was so convienient and had good classes. read more

It is a new gym, so there is a nice newness to it. We had a membership from Jan and are ending it in July. For us, the hours and times it or sections (the pool) was closed were too often. The hours 10pm weekdays and 7pm weekends just didn't work for us. We'd be ready to work out about 9pm on a weeknight, but found out they effectively shut down about 9:45. The pool closes 9:45, people start really clearing out by 9:45. So we need a gym that is open later. Closing at 7pm on Sat/Sunday I don't understand this at all. We once went to the YMCA on a Sat, thinking it was open until 9 and it was closed!! What a disappointment, especially for two people trying to get back into being healthy! I've received many emails about the pool being closed, and whenever there was bad weather/snow it also closed. Most of the reason we got the gym was to work out indoors when we couldn't get outside. The pool has been crowded even at 9pm at night, which is another reason I think the YMCA should stay open later. Clearly, people want to swim!! I have never had a lane to myself, although the most I've had to do is share a lane (not circle swim). Still, 2 people per lane at 9pm -- when every other gym I've ever been to in my life is an empty pool at that time.. The gym is a kid magnet, but that is not uncommon in many YMCAs. They do some policing of not allowing kids below 12 in the room with exercise machines, and having a separate locker room for kids below 12 too. That is nice. For us this gym with the hours (especially 7pm closing on weekends) did not work for us. It might work for people who get to the gym early. read more

I love it here. The people working in the kidz zone are amazing. They really make me feel comfortable leaving them there while I work out. The gym is nicely equipped and always clean. The classes I have signed my daughter up for so far (swimming and preschool gymnastics) were run great and a wonderful experience for her. She always looks forward to going. I think the parking attendants have relieved the headache that was that parking lot before. Edit: I definitely had to edit this review, this y had become barely 3 star worthy. The overcrowding, insane parking lot and the fact that they now allow classes to take place on the floor in the middle of the free weight section taking up the whole area for an hour has really soured me on this place. This used to be the place when it first opened but over the years it's gone down hill. Parking is an issue. People drive crazy in the parking lot. Even a little girl was killed and ran over there. It was on the news. The staff is always on their phones emailing and texting. It's hard to ask them for help because they truly never seem to be fully there. Lots of people from the city come out to use this gym. They're on a "certain plan". If they have food stamps then they don't pay full price and pay very little. Also, be careful, there have been thefts of customers property such as cell phones and wallets. Keep an eye on where your stuff is. Lastly, some of the customers are very judging to one another. I've personally seen some women attack other women because of their "size". For example, one woman who was more overweight was trying to use a bike and this skinny chick made this horrible comment to her. I wish I would have gone over and put that skinny chick in her place. read more

$65 a month and I only use the pool. Summer camp has started and now the availability of the former "warm water" pool - now "program pool" is extremely limited. With my job schedule, unless I want to go at 6am! is extremely limited. I joined when it opened, when the warm water pool was actually warm and the swimming lessons and summer camp did not dominate my swimming options. I find the lap pool too cold and the water lane too crowded. Also, sometimes takes 10 minutes to get a parking space. Goodbye Y! btw you have to give a months notice to quit. If you suspend your membership for 3 months you still have to pay full price. read more

Love, love, love this place. Super nice staff and cleanliness throughout. Their gym section is huge and no waits for treadmills or bikes. The basketball courts can be really packed at peak hours and weekends. Lockers are nice and tidy, and the showers have actual HOT water(women's locker room). The warm pool area is "cleaned" for debris once an hour and takes about 3 minutes or so, (basically everyone has to get out of the pools until they're done). There's also a jacuzzi, sauna, and 6(?) lap lanes (max 2 people per lane). When you're a regular and you go at the same time and do your routine, you often also find others that do the same and bump into them every time. Nice way for small talk while you're working out or even getting to know some people around the area. read more

Not your ordinary health club. The facility is lovely, the staff is friendly and the variety of classes is terrific, I only wish there were more swim classes for people that work. But, one of my favorite parts of this place is the diversity. Every day you talk to people of all ages, races and backgrounds...and everyone is happy. Must be all of those endorphins. Yes, the parking can be challenging, but...where else in Havertown do you get to meet so many happy people. read more

I have loved everything about my Y membership thus far. The membership fee is really affordable compared to other comparable gyms, and everything is included. I mostly utilize cycle and yoga classes and have enjoyed almost every class I've taken. There is a great variety of other classes, and always something new to try. Instructors are friendly and welcoming, and always willing to help someone new to the class. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and the gym is always clean. Despite other complaints of over-crowding, I have always been able to find a spot, even during peak hours. I love being a member of the Haverford Y! read more

The programs seem to be quite good. But when it comes to organization, cleanliness and overall management the place needs new direction. 1. there is insufficient handicap parking. They have the space, just not the interest to arrange it. 2. The pool is vile. They just closed it for cleaning and the hot tub is still ringed by the same mildew that you can scrape off with your fingernail. The same is found around every pole. And - could they not move the lift chair to clean under it? How about moving the lifeguard stands? Doesn't the cleaning staff have a scrub-brush and some Clorox? 3. While the water is not clear how long will it stay that way. All through the beginning of summer is was cloudy green. 4. Adult men use the boys' locker room with no restraint - not good. Whoever is in charge of the place should find a job elsewhere. He or She is not doing much here. It's a shame, because the Y itself is excellent. read more

Not enforcing mask wearing during Covid. In the free weight area, at least half the people are not wearing masks and staff does not enforce. I talked to the manager and he grew defensive, and implied I was being ageist when I described that 9 out of 10 unmasked people in the free weight area were young men on the four occasions I was there. I am a psychologist. Observing average ages is not biased. It's descriptive. It seems very odd that during October 2020 when Covid is spiking, they are unconcerned with health, and more concerned with not bothering the young muscle heads, which I was 30 years ago, and still am to a degree, hence my desire to use that area without catching Covid. read more

Anytime a new gym you join advertises three months later they reached 20,000+ members and wish to expand on this number you know there's going to be trouble. Overall the facilities are great, but accessibility is the big issue. As those who live in the area are well aware, traffic jams are routine on weeknights and weekends, and the parking lot experience is on par with that of a shopping mall at Christmas time. Once you're in you will find pool lanes are highly restricted during peak hours due to swim club practices and the remaining lanes advertised on-line for lap swimming are further restricted to those who wish to water walk. This leaves two lanes with a minimum of three swimmers per lane. I'm no Michael Phelps, but I would get a far better workout without sharing a lane with three 60+ year olds tearing it up with the breaststroke. On the weekends you can readily find kids from the adjacent recreational pool jumping in and hanging around without even a glance from the lifeguards. If you're a family, this place is definitely for you. You basically get daycare at no cost while you work out. While some of the staff do their best to police the multitude of kids left to their own devices on either the upstairs track or the main downstairs fitness area, their numbers are simply overwhelming. Having some randomly run out from behind pillars in front of you while you're running is an ACL tear waiting to happen. Scary. Unfortunately there isn't much of an alternative as the sheer number of members is starting to limit treadmill availability even during off-peak hours. All this for $62 a months plus a $100 initiation fee. What a bargain. read more

Facility: 4 Stars, see below for why not 5 start Fitness and Weight Equipment: 5 Stars Helpful staff on the fitness center floor: 5 Star Parking: First two months: 4.5 Star: January: Terrible, Shameful, 1 star Crowds: 2.5 star. Overall: 2.5 star, due to failure on a gigantic scale of parking and therefore easy of access to the facility. Let's get the good stuff out of the way, it's a bright and sunny new facility, with top of the line equipment and free weights. Nice spinning room, and what seems to be a nice aerobics and yoga program. Lots of families with kids there on the weekends. Now for the bad. The parking is everything the NIMBY naysayer neighbors of Havertown said it would be, and even more. The absolute jammed solid parking lot makes getting into the facility a 10 or 20 minute affair once you pull off Eagle Rd. Why does this appear to be so? The first few months the place was open parking was a breeze, lots of open spots, you'd drive in to the lot, park and be inside in a minute or two. Starting in December, parking became tight, the lot was almost full. In January, the lot is overflowing and there are no spaces on a Saturday morning or a week night. Do you really want to pull into the parking lot and sit in a line of traffic for 10 minutes while five soccer moms ahead of you sit there idling with their turn signals on waiting for the next driver to get in a car and pull out to open up a spot for successive Soccer Mom, ... #1, #2, #3 ... #5. If you're sixth in line you're hosed for 10 or 15 minutes. Once you pull into the lot, it's like your vehicle is in prison with no possibility of escape, you can't go forward (see Soccer Mons with blinkers on), you can't backup (there are more cars behind you), and you can't do a U-turn. So all you can do is wait, .... and wait and wait. How it is that the otherwise good people who run the Y can't seem to load balancing and scheduling programs to the extent of available parking. It's clearly some kind of policy to cram as many people in the place as available square footage will allow. The hallways on a Saturday morning are literally wall to wall people. Phila Y I expected better that this from you. There are also two observations on cleanliness and the finish out of the facility. The Men's locker rooms are not very well maintained as far as cleanliness goes. They need to do some cleaning of the lockers and the floors. The building finish out: After four months into a brand new $24 MM facility, one would reasonable expect the small usability things are addressed and resolved. Not so, shower heads are not mounted to the shower tiling, the plumbing supports the shower heads, the shower room has no mats on the floors, and the shower water temperatures seem to always be a few degrees away from outright cold. read more

The facility and equipment itself are top notch. Unfortunately parking and overcrowding is a damn nightmare, think KOP mall 2 days before XMAS. Amazes me they can even allow so many people into a lot or building at once. The gym is way too overcrowded, the pool and basketball courts are next to impossible to access or have comfort in during "normal" persons hours. Entirely too expensive, especially considering (for me) I'm only getting access to the gym equipment (also hard to use what you want with the amount of people packed in) and indoor track. I am a huge fan of the indoor track, I don't like being static on a treadmill... however I spend most of the track time side stepping youngsters and avoid trucking them over when they try to run and race with me.. Which is cute and funny and all, until someone actually does get hurt. Nobody oversees this upstairs and it might lead to a young kid getting hurt. They seem to come out nowhere sometimes. I understand what the Y represents and can appreciate anyone young or old taking the time to be physically productive. Unfortunately the overcrowding and parking is just too much for me and I've given it a year. I tender my resignation. read more

Very displeased with the encounter I had today. Signed the 3 year old up for a sports introduction for preschool aged children. This was ran by a young woman and gentlemen. With only two preschoolers in the class for the day, you could expect true staff to be engaged and work with the kids. However, the young woman was helpful but the gentlemen was very unenthusiastic and looked like he was just assigned to cleaning latrines. When you pay for a service on top of a membership fee, one expects a certain level of value for their money. Please get your staff in line or at least assess them for the job roles you assign YMCA management... read more

This facility is easily top of the line for the area. Ever since I made the decision to go with YMCA over a big box gym a little over a year ago, I've had generally pleasant experiences. The main reason for making that choice was the friendliness of both the staff and clientele, and nothing's changed for this new Y location that served as a relocation for the Main Line (Ardmore spot). I feel obligated to mention that because upon entering the Haverford Y, you'll think to yourself, "Oh, it IS a big box gym now" with a giant fitness room encompassing free weights, weight machines, and cardio. Spacially, sure, but when you see the familiar faces from the past, you realize otherwise. At Abington and Ardmore, finding your weight area occupied by a single individual was frustrating. The redundancy here, though, is refreshing. In the lobby, to the left, is a locker kiosk to charge your lightning/older gen apple, mini-usb devices for free. Above you and through the fitness room is an indoor track for those people that don't enjoy staring at an un-moving scene while walking or running. The locker rooms are very nice, with hairdryers along the sinks. In the fitness room, gone are the spray-bottles and paper-towels. Instead you'll find some receptacles with a compartment holding wipes atop it. The parking lot never seems full (yet), so the number of spaces appear to be adequate, and there is a traffic light for entering. There IS also an entrance, coming from Lawrence Rd., that'll take you behind the building to the parking lot, but it seems to be more for maintenance. read more

There is a very good variety of equipment for resistance and cardio, although most of the members seem to enjoy sitting on it to check their email between sets and refuse to let anyone work in.
