I don't understand all the negative reviews about this place lol The staff is super friendly and attentive, they have a great sense of humor, the facility is very clean, it's not overcrowded, the gym has everything you need, there are two pools, one is used by swim teams often...and the other one is usually vacant, there is a sauna, the bathrooms are pretty clean compared to other gyms I've seen, you can run laps upstairs which I'm sure looks beautiful in the winter time looking at the snow pile on the trees as you run laps. Several basketball courts. Yoga classes. Easy checkin with the PHILAYMCA app. I always have a pleasant experience here. I think people just find things to complain about honestly. This place is great. Well worth the membership. read more

Dirty. Overpriced. Incompetent staff and worse leadership. Don't waste your money. The staff is miserable and overpaid. The Y was great until about 10years ago. There you go YMCA! You wanted a review, there it is. You suck. read more

Phoenixville is doing a great job of offering classes during the pandemic. The staff has gone out of their way to help keep members safe. Great Job! read more

I've been a member of the Phoenixville YMCA since 2007, and I'm sorry to say it's gone badly downhill in the past several years. I can only assume it's due to poor management and lack of receptivity to member feedback. For example, an expensive and prolonged renovation of the locker rooms resulted in a men's locker room with fewer showers, sinks, toilets, and full-sized lockers than pre-renovation. The entire project was conducted without soliciting member input, and the result is a locker room that's constantly crowded and where you're likely to wait for a shower at peak times. Similarly the recent addition of music in the weight room has resulted in the majority of members wearing headphones, making this another waste of money. Perhaps because of high-cost projects like this basic maintenance has fallen by the wayside. As of February 1, 2019, the steam room has been closed for two weeks, with no repair date in sight. The lap pool is sufficiently filthy that I almost don't mind the way the Y rents over 60% of their pool capacity to local swim teams, making the pool effectively unavailable to members on evenings and weekends. This fact is effectively hidden from members by virtue of the fact that the posted pool schedules are never accurate, but after the first few times you're interrupted by a surprise swim team practice you'll realize that rental fees talk, and membership walks. You might fairly ask when I'm still a member, and the truth is that having a Y membership allows me to access other Ys when I travel. On it's own merits, the Phoenixville Y doesn't deserve your membership fees. read more

As a member of the Freedom Valley YMCA, I have access to this facility as well as several others. Although this is not my "home" facility, I will sometimes stop by here as it's on my way home from work to attend some of the fitness classes like Cardio Kickboxing. All in all, this is nice facility. It's an older facility but they have expanded, so some parts of the facility are newer than others. They have both an indoor and outdoor pool, but we've honestly never used either of them. I have used the fitness center and unlike my "home" facility, I never find it overly crowded, which is nice. They certainly have a fair amount of machines and I've always found them to be in good working order. Staff working the front desk has always been pleasant and the fitness classes I've attended have been taught by good instructors. All in all, a great facility and I am glad to have access to it. read more

My child used to love Mrs Rana he was so happy in her classroom, he loved to go to school, but then he move to Alyssa's classroom and start to be so scared to go to daycare, he cried every single day. He had marks all over his body and no one never knew what happened to him. The infant room poor babies they cry all the time, one day I saw a teacher shaking so hard a 5-7 month baby, she was mad because he was trying to get another toy. When the parents are around they are all very nice but behind our back treat kids like shit. read more

So much to do here besides just working out in the gym. There are loads of free classes. There is a summer Y camp program that my children have previously attended and enjoyed. We go here in the winter and summer to swim. The outdoor pool is Barker Park and is awesome for outdoor fun and cooling off during hot summer days. The outdoor pool usually closes at 8pm and if its really hot out it closes at 9pm. There is a neat program from 4-8 Mon thru Friday for students grades 4-8. There is foosball, paddle ball, internet use, cable television, and lots of board games to name a few to keep the children occupied while you work out or do whatever you choose. I have been a member here for several years and its a pleasure to be a part of such a great establishment. read more

We love the "Y", but only use the main exercise room. Staff are always responsive and friendly. Other "Y" members friendly - lots of laughs and interaction. Some suggestions: 1. The speed limit at the local school up the road is 15 mph and that should be the same at the "Y". TOOOOOOO many people arriving at the "Y" speed in so that they won't be late for a class and this is dangerous for older people and for mothers carrying infants. 2. People with electronics should not monopolize an exercise machine while they are fiddling with FACE BK or whatever. 3. Some people still do not wipe down equipment. 4. The back seat adjustment on machine #8 (aduction/abduction needs some WD-40. read more

The locker room is gross and needs to be updated. The showers do not have enough hot water to support more than 3 people. the water is freezing in the winter. Other than the locker room, the gym is clean and new. Also, read the non recommended reviews at the bottom. They are spot on. read more

At synchronized swim Nationals, this horrible place let place charged us full price for our Nationals, and gave us a shitty pool with no observation, forced us to park half mile away, and either ride a crappy school bus, (they called a shuttle!), Nobody watching our cars or even the thought that most use their vehicles as a waypoint for our teams... Worst Nationals ever, because of this place, but they were happy to take our money and laugh at us as we walk the open road just to get to their greedy establishment... They force everyone to be on the deck of the pool, which raises safety concerns,... Being YMCA, I would expect alot better... But at least us paying for the crap we received, their real people get to park decently and are treated properly at least, so this places stupidity, I'm sorry privlages given to full price paying customers extends only to us, so that's nice for them... I would hope those responsible for even thinking about having this here should be fired, point blank. Thank you, YMCA for ruining our Nationals, but at least your locals are loving it... read more

I put a high value on community and family and this is as good as it gets. I love being a part of something bigger than myself. The Y isn't just a swim and gym but is a place where people can meet and be a part of community. I take several exercise classes each week. My favorite classes are the Yoga. The instructor's are knowledgable and greating at motoivating me. It's a great value! read more

Update: The adult locker rooms have been renovated, so I'm revising my rating to 3 stars. When they renovate the under 18 locker rooms, I'll revise again (because they are still awful). I have some complaints about the adult locker room renovations. I'm speaking only for the women's locker room here, as I have not been in the men's. The old locker room had 6 private dressing rooms, and they were well-used, but when they were designing the new space it seems they forgot about dressing rooms. They put in only ONE dressing room! It's not enough! Everyone is complaining about the missing dressing rooms. As for the new showers, I hope you're skinny. The new showers are TINY. I mean miniature. You can't bend over to shave your legs in there without hitting your head on the wall. Don't drop the soap. And there are now only 5 of them, rather than the 6 we used to have. Honestly, what happened to the space that used to house the 5 missing dressing rooms and 1 missing shower?!? It's gone. And the ventilation is really inadequate. It's STUFFY in there. Other than that, the new locker room is nice. Nothing fancy. Just an update of tile and flooring and fixtures. Very plain, but clean. It's definitely not a spa. I've been a member of the Phoenixville YMCA for about 7 years. I've lived through major renovations as they brought an old facility into the 21st century, and they've really made it into a great place. It should be a five star rating. HOWEVER, I'm giving it one star until they renovate the locker rooms. They.are.a.DUMP! It's really horrible to have top of the line fitness equipment, gorgeous well-kept pools, glorious large and airy gyms...and have locker rooms straight out of the 1950's. The tile is old and cracked and dangerous. Old ladies slip on it because it's not proper floor tile, rather it's probably wall tile that was installed as floor tile. The showerheads are all broken and don't turn off properly so they waste thousands of gallons of water daily, and only 1 or 2 showers actually have hot water. Today, a showerhead flew off and hit me in the head while I was using it...the same shower head I complained to the desk staff about last week. Someone had just stuck the same broken fixture back on. The carpeting in the locker area is smelly and dirty and coming up in places where it's a tripping hazard. If you want to flush a toilet, you'd better know the "trick" (hint: pull UP on the handles instead of pushing down). That is if you can actually get into the toilet stall...the doors swing inward and have zero clearance between the door and toilet bowl, causing you to have to step to the side of the bowl to be able to close the door behind you. I've only described the adult-18+ women's locker rooms...which, as bad as it is, seems luxurious compared to the all-age female locker room. That one is much worse. I haven't been inside either of the men's locker rooms, but I'm told they are fairly dumpy too. Please, YMCA, renovate your locker rooms and make them safe and enjoyable. read more

I am new to Phoenixville and inquired about the YMCA Summer Camp. I called and left messages 6 times with no call backs. I even gave up leaving messages directly to Suzanne, he director of camps and called the front desk. The person that responded assured me they were writing and leaving notes to two people and that i will hear back from at least 1 of them. Well, i never heard back. Finally, I decided to drive there and see if I could get my questions answered. The person that greeted my daughter and I was less than helpful. She answered questions as if she did not want to speak with us (yet, she is customer service). She assumed that I would need "financial assistance", which I wouldn't qualify for- just because I am black, (does not mean I NEED financial help!). My sister is the Director of YMCA in Montreal (Notre-Dame-de-Grâce) and I assumed that everyone would be treated equal as I am used to ... it is so sad to see how we were treated at this YMCA. Maybe you didn't need my money and child at your summer camp, but your customer service really sucks from the top down!!!! Looking at these reviews from 2019 to now, it's sad to see that we all have nothing good to say. Well... you lost one more opportunity to make it right. read more

Ive been a member since September 09. It is a wonderful facility. So many great activities. Lots of free classes. Two indoor pools. Outside a great pool area, I think like 4 pools. Two gyms, great workout area. The Kidwatch amenity is awesome. I have 2 lil girls and they love it. Highly recommend it to all. Much better price monthly than any gym, especially since you can go to any ymca anywhere.... read more

Honestly the best YMCA in the area by far. It's big, beautiful, up-to-date, and just the perfect place for family fun. The staff is so helpful and kind with their knowledge and time, and I always feel so comfortable with everyone. I've been a member here since I was a baby taking swim lessons, and I bring my friends here for free classes all of the time. My only critique is the timing of the classes, I wish there were more after school (past 3pm) for students. I would love to try the ballet barre and kickboxing, but they are unfortunately during the week and during the day. Great place and I will always be loyal to this Y! read more

Fantastic facility, great cardio equipment, nice people. However, very poor layout when it comes to the free weight & weight machine area. Not an open floor plan. You have to go up and down ramps and hallways just to get from one area to another. Very inconvenient. Not sure who the engineer was, but they messed up big time when they designing the floor plan. Free weight equipment is in poor shape, very outdated, and is located in a very small and crowded area. Cleanliness - "nay" I say for the most part... Well at least to to locker rooms. A friend of mine got ringworm 3 times already on his butt from sitting on the stools in the men's locker room. Men's locker room smells horrible, like dirty socks... In need of serious updates in there... And the old men in the locker room have no shame! Be ready for the NAKED TALK!!! EWWWW!!!! So not for me!!! Very crowded during peak hours. Kids everywhere... I guess that's what happens when you join a "community" fitness center. However, there are just too many little girls walking around in their swim suits in the free weight hallway area all the time (parents - get it together & practice common sense, teach your young ones to have some respect for their bodies, keep them clothed in this area...) Hard to complete a full workout when people jump in and sit on the equipment forever. Some people just have no concept of gym etiquette. They even rope off and run a kids program in the weight machine area during peak hours. So annoying... Again, no common sense. Overall, I like this facility to a certain extent, but there is a lot of room for improvement. For now, I'm stuck with it... Not a lot of choice around here as far as adult gyms go. Snap Fitness is barely an option either... That place is a joke... Hope this is helpful... read more
