Could this be the last review for Powder House in 2026? Maybe. Tonight was their last night being…read moreopen for the season, so who knows. How do I put this lightly? If I could, I would give Powder House 6 out of 5 stars. My wife and I had an amazing time there tonight. Our server was Emily and she was an absolute gem. She suggested all the right meals and we were both blown away by the quality and taste of everything. I went in planning to get a steak, but at Emily's suggestion, I ordered the bacon-wrapped buffalo filet mignon. It was cooked to absolute perfection--every bite was tender and juicy. It ranks among the best steaks I've ever had, so you can take that for what that's worth. My wife had the chicken alfredo and said it was one of the best she's ever had, too. I would highly recommend getting reservations if you plan on coming. This was a meal and experience we will talk about for many years to come. If we ever make it back to the Black Hills, we will most definitely be stopping by.

The ham tasted like cooked in brown sugar and honey which complemented the more savory slightly salty bacon bits. The bacon had a drier texture and more like crumbles vs chopped bacon pieces but worked well with the other ingredients. Mushroom was grilled and added an earthy flavor which balanced the heavier meat ingredients. The side of potatoes was really good, too. It was cut in cubes, lightly coated with some kind of starch and fried. The coating has the flavor of seasoned curly fries. Lightly crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I chose rye from the bread options. The french toast was also yummy; cinnamonny and eggy flavor but without being overly soaked in custard nor soggy. This was a side order for additional cost. The pancakes tasted like it had sweet cream and had a nutty hint of flavor. More dense than fluffy but was good. Reasonable prices for the quality and amount of the food. Staff were nice and friendly. Great ambiance, too. The restaurant has a very cozy homey feel with the country style decor. Windows wrapped around most of the dining area. Plenty of parking. Highly recommend if you're around Keystone South Dakota or nearby area.

First off - there is TWO locations near to each other. We accidentally went to the one that seems…read moreto be listed on maps but it wasn't what we intended. More of a bar with limited options and we had kids. They gave us directions to the other spot which has red signs next to subway and Dairy Queen. HIGHLY recommend this one! The owner and his daughters who helped run everything were so incredibly nice. Went above and beyond. Root beer was next level for all of us. Amazing bison burgers! We are so glad we chose this spot for a nice lunch with beautiful views outside. Give them a try but be sure you visit the right place!

When I walked in, I was a little confused if I had walked in to a candy store or deli, they sell some other products. Someone quickly gave me a menu and welcomed me and cleared that right up, I would get some signage inside so I know this is the restaurant I had been looking for, and maybe consolidate some of the displays. The steak fries were great, homemade and fresh, as was all the food we ate. All in all this place has the feeling of someone's first restaurant, which is really a cool thing to see succeed and get a good product for a good value. If you're a traveler like I was, check them out.

The experience from beginning to finish was as follows…read more.. We enter, unsure whether to seat ourselves, and are asked, albeit almost silently, to pick a table of our liking. And upon choosing a table, we were given menus by our server, who didn't have a name tag, so I couldn't reference her specifically, and asked to select a drink. After getting water, we eagerly wait for 15-ish minutes for our waitress to take our order. After placing our order of two burgers, nothing special, we waited patiently for our food. Keep in mind, we arrived at 8:10, 50 minutes before closing. We then waited 30 minutes for our burgers, only getting a light apology after 25. Upon receiving our food, we were FAMISHED, and it tasted good! But I think practically everything tastes good when you're hungry, am I right?!? After GOBBLING our burgers down, we received the check at approximately 9:05, and the waitress was eagerly looking at the screen when we politely left a tip justifiable for the service. I'm one always to tip a server, even if the service isn't the best. At the end, we were sent off with an "okay" and nothing more. I'm not one to complain, but a thank-you would've been nice since we weren't rude to her about the insane wait time. Ultimately, be warned: when you come here, it's a cute place to take family when passing through, but not when you're on a time crunch. In short, the food is pretty good, somewhere between 6/7 out of 10, but the service was very subpar, leaving us with a sour taste in our mouths.

Their hamburgers are good. The service was excellent and they took care of you when you ask for something. The staff is very friendly and make you feel at home. The place is divided for inside tables and then there is another section for the outside. You are still inside the building however it's an open air room. It makes it a quaint little place to go to. You need to try it if you are in that area. You won't be disappointed.
