Visiting Mount Rushmore, I needed to have breakfast and almost everything was closed, except I found Big Thunder Bar & Grill. I was the only patron but the Spanish omelette was very delicious and plentiful. I couldn't eat it all, and it also came with tasty hash browns. Lizzy, the manager was very sweet and informative on things to do in the area. I would definitely recommend trying this establishment for food. read more

Food wasn't terrible but not great either. Service was horrible. Took forever for the food to come out and the server never checked on us or how the food was. No refills on drinks! My daughter had her water empty when the food was delivered and never got a refill. I finally had to flag down the server to get our check. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the facility looked clean. read more

My friends and I decided to stop into Big thunder mountain to grab a bite after checking out Mount Rushmore. We were in for a treat we had Aubrey whose first day it was. I hope she didn't mind I work in the industry and provided her with a few tips. Anything she could not answer at our table she went and checked. I have dietary needs so I highly appreciate this. Being I'm a vegan I ordered a side salad and fries. It was my only options sadly. Food was great though. My friend loved their chicken tenders, burgers and elk sandwich. Service was even better. Don't waste your time or money. Service was horrible and they were out of everything on their menu except for cheeseburgers... We were the only diners here-(4 of us), and it was a 2 hour lunch waiting on getting served our meals. The bathroom had no toilet paper either. After finally ending the meal and asking for the bill, their credit card machine was down. That should have been disclosed BEFORE we ordered. This was a ridiculous experience dining out. Hidden gem!!! Our family was up in Keystone seeing Mt Rushmore and seen signs for this restaurant and mine. We were immediately greeted by friendly waitstaff and when we couldn't decide on what we wanted our waitress and the cook came out and explained what some local favorites were and our meal was above and beyond our expectations! If you're in the area I highly recommend the Elk burger!!! And the kids recommend the Buffalo! read more

To start off with the fries were amazing. Really good seasoning. However it took over an hour to get our food. What we had ordered was chicken strips, two hot dogs, chicken breast sandwich, a cheese burger, a corn dog, and the elk sausage. Corn dog, both hot dogs, cheese burger and the chicken breast were all over cooked. The food was good flavor, but took forever considering there was us and another family that walked in behind us when we entered. The staff was nice and kind. Maybe just a bit low on staff. Very clean, friendly, and delicious! We are visiting from out of town and this is by far the best sit down meal we have had! They were short staffed because a waitress had to leave and there was only one waitress and she did a great job! Our meals were fresh and sooooo delicious and did not take forever. Surprised this place had many bad reviews and I'm glad we gave this place a shot! Only thing was it was a bit pricey but you get what you pay for! read more

One of the wait staff was very friendly and helpful, I don't remember her name. The other staff, including the manager (who used expletives and derogatory comments) were very rude and negative. The food wasn't very good either but one star was given for the friendly waitress and Tristan up at the mine, which without him is a complete joke for anyone over 8. I'll preface this with the comment there's a "grand opening" banner hanging out front, so for all I know this just opened 2 days ago. It wasn't even listed on Yelp yet. We stopped for lunch. The food was decent enough for lunch. Kids nachos were underwhelming. Buffalo burger was overcooked (as is common with buffalo) but good enough. Bacon cheeseburger with cottage bacon was tasty. Score gets knocked a bit as the service was somewhat off. There weren't many people here, and yet they seemed understaffed and generally overwhelmed. Hopefully it's because they indeed just opened recently and not because this is just how it is here. We wouldn't be afraid to try it one more time in the future. They were friendly and trying at least. read more

Do not stop here! We stopped in for lunch. We sat outside in the deck and had to go in to place our order. We ordered drinks, they said they had no ice, which we saw other customers with ice. Sat back outside and waited and waited. Finally after an hour we went back in to ask how long and they hadn't even started making our order! The place was half empty so I'm not sure what they were doing in the kitchen. They didn't seem to care that we were waiting so long or care that we finally said just cancel our order. Awful service! We stopped here on our way to Mount Rushmore, chosen at random--so glad we did! Best burger I've had in years. I got the buffalo patty. My husband got the elk & jalapeño brat which he also really liked. Great customer service--very friendly.
