If you like having wine for your event at a rustic place, this place is perfect! Update: 2 days after, we came back for a friend's wedding. There is a big parking lot and entrance & exit ways are separate so people can drive easily without confusion! Bathrooms are also separated, they are in a small building next by. This place is like a little village that has everything needed for any event like a wedding! Also the Manager was so helpful and I can tell, she is a very organized person and she made sure everything is going perfect and she was smiling all the time. :) It was a beautiful october night, the ceremony took place on the bluffs by the vineyard. There is a big log house by the bluffs for wedding family, so they can have their own privacy before the ceremony. (Btw, walking in stilettos can be challenging since the area is all grassy and soil) After the ceremony, we walked to the 2 story barn to attend the cocktail, and had their complimentary hot apple cider, was delicious. Then we headed to upstairs to have wedding dinner and after party. This place can handle more than 100 people. Very neat and clean. Service was perfect.

If we'd had more time, then I would have loved to sit and listen to the live music and walk the grounds. We even enjoyed chatting with a regular there, named Charlie. We were made to feel at home and truly enjoyed our time there!

The wine is some of the best I've found in this part of the world-yes, the local terroir and tastes run to sweet, but they have an excellent Cab and other drier choices. The seafood boil this weekend was terrific, and something they have been doing all summer apparently. Well worth a visit if anywhere nearby. I've been to many of the wineries in this part of the world and in the major areas around St. Louis, and this is better than most.

I've never been to this part of the area before and the views and reviews seemed up to par. So we drove up during the weekend and the drive itself was just wonderful especially during the fall season. We arrived right when it opened and the location is breath taking. There is so many spots to sit outside and walk around. Different views and decks. It was just wow. Very cute. On the inside they have big windows and high ceilings. The owner is just wonderful. They have been open for selling wine since 2002. And he really knows his stuff! We did a wine tasting which was free for the first 3 but after that it is $1 per taste. We did about 4 more after that. We grabbed our favorites for a walk around the area. They have such a good taste all of them! Also they have these slushees for the summer season. My boyfriends mom tried both and said pina colada was her favorite. We had a wonderful time, bought some bottles. And we will be back again!

We were warmly greeted and the owner was friendly and very knowledgeable. He restored the winery/stagecoach stop himself (he even shared before pictures) and makes the wine himself from the old recipes from the area, and from the fruits of the area (except for the lemons, which come from Arizona). The wines were unique and very good. Prior to this, I had never had rhubarb wine or a wine made from multiflora roses. Both were heavenly, and neither of us tasted a wine there that we felt wasn't good. The building itself is very neat and has much of its original charm, including the original windows. There are a few nice outdoor seating areas and a nice garden, as well. Know before you go: This place only accepts cash or check. There is an ATM down the road in a local bar.

We attended a wedding at Hill Prairie Winery. The property is pretty and rustic and certainly has…read morethe atmosphere you would expect for a country wedding, but the overall guest experience was disappointing. For a winery, surprisingly little was done to showcase the wine. There was no real sense of the wines being part of the experience, and several of our pours appeared to come from the bottoms of nearly empty, previously opened bottles. The wine itself wasn't particularly good, and it was served in plastic cups. The bartender we encountered was also rather surly. Dinner was served in the upstairs barn space. The food was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Dancing was in the covered outdoor pavilion. It's a nice space, but it was extremely hot with very little air movement. Even a couple large outdoor fans would have made a huge difference. Most surprising, after dinner there was no complimentary water available. Guests who wanted water had to purchase a plastic bottle inside, where alcohol was still being served. With a hot outdoor pavilion, dancing, and alcohol being served, readily available drinking water seems like a pretty basic hospitality consideration. The setting is lovely and has plenty of rustic charm. Unfortunately, the service and some relatively simple details kept the experience from living up to the location.

I never actually made it to the venue. Over the years I have seen many acts at this venue, all acts…read moreI have seen were held indoors. We had tickets to see Chicago Farmer a few week back, I have been wanting to see this act for a long time so I was very excited. It was a very warm weekend. My friends and I could not figure out from the website or the tickets if this was scheduled as an indoors show or outdoors. I figured the best way to find out was to actually call the venue. I called the venue the evening before and asked if it was going to be an indoor or outdoor show. The gentleman that I talked talked to never really answered if it was indoor or outdoors, but eventually told me it was scheduled to be outdoors, and if the weather was an issue it would move indoors. Trying to plan ahead, since I had never seen an outdoor show, I asked the gentleman on the phone if patrons brought their own lawn chairs for outside shows. This was new to me and I wanted to be prepared for my evening. The gentleman on the phone was very rude and told me if I would've read my tickets I would've had the answers to all these questions. I feel like I looked in the proper places to get these answers and then I looked again after I got off the phone with him, nowhere on the tickets did it explain whether or not it was an indoor and outdoor show and if it was an outdoor show that patrons were to bring their own lawn chairs. What should've been an easy informative phone call to the venue ended up leaving a very bad taste in my mouth. I was planning on heading out with a group of eight of us, we would've spent a decent amount of money at the venue. After the conversation with the gentleman on the phone, I discussed the issue with my friends, and we decided that we were going to choose not to spend our money at that venue. I hope that this is not common practice to be rude to customers as they're trying to gather information about a concert that they were looking forward to seeing. It is a beautiful, fun establishment that I hope to enjoy in the future.
