This is such a fantastic place to visit, to explore, to have an event, etc. The grounds have been in the family for several generations. The Winery is housed in one of the original barns. Have a close look, it's for real. The selection is fantastic. If you show up on a Friday night you can enjoy some of the best food you will have within 100 miles. We attended a wedding at Hill Prairie Winery. The property is pretty and rustic and certainly has the atmosphere you would expect for a country wedding, but the overall guest experience was disappointing. For a winery, surprisingly little was done to showcase the wine. There was no real sense of the wines being part of the experience, and several of our pours appeared to come from the bottoms of nearly empty, previously opened bottles. The wine itself wasn't particularly good, and it was served in plastic cups. The bartender we encountered was also rather surly. Dinner was served in the upstairs barn space. The food was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Dancing was in the covered outdoor pavilion. It's a nice space, but it was extremely hot with very little air movement. Even a couple large outdoor fans would have made a huge difference. Most surprising, after dinner there was no complimentary water available. Guests who wanted water had to purchase a plastic bottle inside, where alcohol was still being served. With a hot outdoor pavilion, dancing, and alcohol being served, readily available drinking water seems like a pretty basic hospitality consideration. The setting is lovely and has plenty of rustic charm. Unfortunately, the service and some relatively simple details kept the experience from living up to the location. read more

We were here for the Friday night "wine down". The only night they serve food. Small town hospitality meets big time flavors. The hostess help us pick a bottle of their home grown wine. Plenty of samples to be had before making our final decision. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the smoked ribs. Meal was served on plastic plates as this is not a restaurant. Do not let this deter you from this place. Both were to excellent. Ribs were nice and Smokey. We had the option of dining inside or out. We opted for inside due to 90° weather. Inside is in the renovated 100 yr old barn. Great atmosphere with plenty of knickknacks and signage to purchase. The views are awesome here as this winery is out in the country. The prices were very reasonable and would highly recommend this place to anybody. read more

Went early for a very busy Friday Wine Down. Prices were great and the food was delicious. I ordered the steak and sampled the ribs. Meals come with a salad and potato and a roll. It's all served on paper plates because it's not technically a restaurant. Our server was very attentive. The rest of the staff is great as well. This old barn venue is in magnificent condition. It's worth a look just to see how construction was done in the past. There are some very cool old antiques on display as well. It's a great place to enjoy some wine or beer with hearty dinner on a Friday evening. read more

Prairie Hill Winery is located outside Oakford Illinois. They serve meals on Friday night only. Serving starts after 5PM. Four of us were there a bit before serving time so we had some time to poke around a bit. The building and grounds are immaculate and the main building looks to be an old recycled barn inside. Various knick-knacks and things are for sale inside the main building. Seating is on two levels inside and looks to seat 75 give or take. There is an outside area that easily seats the same number. The outside area is open air on the sides and has an open shade roof structure with some sort of material over the top that cuts the sun I am unsure if it has waterproof characteristics. In addition there is a nearby covered structure (suitable for a fair weather wedding reception or something like that) that would seat 200+ people. Now for the meal. Entrees: The 16 oz ribeye was $21.95 and, according to the two people who ordered it, was perfectly cooked to order and was tender and tasty. The third person had the shrimp skewer. It ran $11.95 for six large BBQ'd shrimp and was reported to be very good. My 1/2 rack of ribs $11.95 (full rack is $21.95) was large, meaty and moist. The waitress said they smoke the ribs for several hours and I could really taste the flavor. All meals come with baked potato, roll, and a small salad. I had their house dressing made on site which was like a sweet Italian style dressing very tasty. None of us had any wine so there is no comment on that aspect of their business. Our server was of great humor had very tolerant of our goofing around with her. She kept on top of our meal and was at the table several time checking on us. She, and everyone else we met, was pleasant and friendly. The only odd thing, and it's not necessarily a bad thing, was the use of paper plates for meal service (thank goodness they used metal utensils!) I would have expected more formal plates given the meal pricing and the atmosphere that they are projecting. Would I come back a resounding YES. The Hill Prairie Winery is a great place for a casual evening. read more

We came here to hear the Boat Drunks. They have a great, huge covered pavillion that is perfect for a band/event. A very nice place and their wine was good too. read more

Wine was good Traminete, had a whole bottle, asked for ice water, which is usually free with dinner, they brought bottled water and charged us, which is highly unusual, they should have let us know, we just wanted tap water. Also had to take bill and pay at front counter, difficult to leave a tip, when you don't know the total, would rather have server take our bill. read more
