Next morning, it's 4:35am and no taxi. I call their number, there's a pause, which tells me he totally forgot about me, and says "my car broke down, let me see what I can do, if my sister can come and get me, I can pick you up with the truck (?), I can probably be there in 30 minutes, I'll call you back in 10 minutes ..." OMG! I have a flight that starts boarding in 50 minutes, and he's calling back in 10 minutes! I gave him the benefit of a doubt as there's no other way to get to the airport ... no Ubers this early. Nothing. You can guess how this ends. "Sorry, not gonna make it" I guess I should have been dubious when he didn't ask for a name or phone number upon scheduling the pickup. Long story short, I woke up hotel manager and he drove me to the airport in his own car ... and I gave him the money that this taxi company was going to charge me. I made my flight with 15 minutes to spare. Perhaps if you need a ride to the grocery store, this taxi company will be fine. But I certainly wouldn't use them for anything important like trying to make an early morning flight. Life is too short for this type of aggravation ... and what's the point of supporting a business that's not reliable?

My car stopped working at a school…read moreparking lot and initially I had called the A1 Taxi to pick me up at the school parking lot, unsure if I was going to able to get a tow truck to get my car, but then I was able to secure a tow truck and I had to call A1 Taxi again to change the pick up location. The taxi driver was patient and kind and picked me, my husband and my kids up in a timely manner and the taxi ride was very afforadable. I plan to hold on to this business information for future use and I recommend A1 Taxi services.

Not during prime times, not talking fun places. I'm talking, 1 pm, pick me up at the semi fixing shop, drop me off at the hotel. The next day at 5 pm, reverse the process. Ugh. Arrow Taxicab saved us last night. We called them and they immediately drove an hour from Urbana down to Mattoon, found our stranded geniuses and got them back to their dorms. Thanks Arrow!! Even after I graduated I still only use checker whenever I'm back. I even refers every friend that I have to use the company. However, the incident set of last Sunday (1/13) has totally changed my thoughts about the company. First, I got complaints from my friends who had to wait hours to get the cab, and also sometime without knowing that it would take that long. I had to leave town on Sunday and was warned when trying to schedule a trip to Amtrak Station on that day. However, because of my past experience with Checker, I still gave the company benefit of the doubt. My train was scheduled to leave at 5:56pm and I called to schedule a cab at around 3:00pm to pick me up at 5:20pm. But even until 5:30pm, I still did not receive any call nor see any cab waiting outside for me. So I decided to give them a call to check up. The female operator told me that my cab did not come because I cancelled the service myself (?!?) She then told me that the cab will turn around and pick me up shortly. Well, it was 5:55pm that the cab finally came and it was already too late for me. I missed my train and had to pay lots of money to reschedule another one, not to say that I have to wait for another 3 hours in town for that. I called back to complain and before I could say anything, the female operator just give me a sentence: "Oh so you're cancelling?", then she dropped the call. Not even a single "Sorry". I rode with the company owner's once and I like her and the company so much that I stayed loyal until now. However, this incident has just set everything off. Tried to find an email address so I don't have to write this public review, but all they have is just the phone number and I don't want to talk to that female operator again. So here you go Checker. I'm gonna stick with Red Top next time I'm in town.

No crazy fees or forms, just a simple contract and a few text messages. They worked with us on changing drop off and pick up locations no problem. Libby also worked well with our changing schedule (needed to extend timing day-of), patiently took group photos, and got us home safe through a crazy storm. She had even researched where would be most convenient to drop off based on the gate we needed at the concert. 10/10 service you just don't find anymore! Will be using A+ again

Can't forget about the iconic website that cuts out all the time and is the abosulte best thing to mentally challenge yourself. Dont worry if you get it wrong though, the buses like to mix it up anyways that is if the schedule is updated in the first place. Thankfully they'll close the door in your face for showing up right on time or even if you have a minute to spare. Or my personal favorite, when its 5 degrees not including wind chill, dark, you have the overhead bus light on, have been waiting for it for an hour, and instead of stopping they nearly runs you over whilst speeding. Only downside is I've seen a singular nice bus driver and thats clearly not the aesthetic they're going for but since it's only happened once, I'll let it slide. 10/10 *In all seriousness, it seems to be management issue and an underpaid issue. Management didnt really think about Normal's routes and which routes that actually need to be more frequent, nor did they find easily accessing routes and times important. Honestly I would say what do you expect from public transportation but of all the places I've been and lived its one of the most funded and yet one of the worst. Its usually pretty clean for public transportation though.
