I've been a very loyal customer to Checker cab. I've used checker since my sophomore year of college, when I started getting bad experience with other cab companies in town. Even after I graduated I still only use checker whenever I'm back. I even refers every friend that I have to use the company. However, the incident set of last Sunday (1/13) has totally changed my thoughts about the company. First, I got complaints from my friends who had to wait hours to get the cab, and also sometime without knowing that it would take that long. I had to leave town on Sunday and was warned when trying to schedule a trip to Amtrak Station on that day. However, because of my past experience with Checker, I still gave the company benefit of the doubt. My train was scheduled to leave at 5:56pm and I called to schedule a cab at around 3:00pm to pick me up at 5:20pm. But even until 5:30pm, I still did not receive any call nor see any cab waiting outside for me. So I decided to give them a call to check up. The female operator told me that my cab did not come because I cancelled the service myself (?!?) She then told me that the cab will turn around and pick me up shortly. Well, it was 5:55pm that the cab finally came and it was already too late for me. I missed my train and had to pay lots of money to reschedule another one, not to say that I have to wait for another 3 hours in town for that. I called back to complain and before I could say anything, the female operator just give me a sentence: "Oh so you're cancelling?", then she dropped the call. Not even a single "Sorry". I rode with the company owner's once and I like her and the company so much that I stayed loyal until now. However, this incident has just set everything off. Tried to find an email address so I don't have to write this public review, but all they have is just the phone number and I don't want to talk to that female operator again. So here you go Checker. I'm gonna stick with Red Top next time I'm in town. read more

Great cab company don't be fooled by people complaining about a sign. Every time I have used them I have had a good experience unlike the other local company in which the cab driver actually stole my wallet. The cabs are never dirty or smell like b.o. like others either I am impressed with them read more

The only reason this place still gets business is because they're the only option. Showed up almost 20 minutes after the ETA. Guy on the phone was rude as f*ck. My total was $12.50, so I handed over a $20 and asked for $5 back. Driver had $1. Just told him to keep the change because it honestly wasn't worth it at that point. You're better off walking. read more

Grabbed a ride back to Normal from DT Bloomington, and our driver was pretty rude the entire trip. He also tried to go out of the way to run up the tab, and was very confrontational when someone called him out on it. Not many great cab companies on Blo-No, but you can do better than this. read more

They were lower priced than their competitor in Bloomington, they were very timely, they had a minivan to accommodate our family and luggage; as we were stranded along I-55. Our driver was excellent! She recommended which hotel we stay in, so we were close to the dealer where our car was being repaired. Overall it couldn't have been better! Thank you for helping us out Checker Cab! read more

Terrible! Called for cab was told it would arrive in 30 minutes and I'd get a call from the driver when it arrived. Waited 45 minutes then called them back and was told they had been here and had called me (which had NOT happened as I was holding my phone the whole time). Was told it would be another 20 minutes. Forget it. read more

I used this company for a while because its the only place in town that allows you to use a debit card. After two very awkward cab rides with a driver who made me incredibly uncomfortable, I sent an email to company. They did not respond. The cab driver texted my cell phone and pressed for personal information that I refused to give. He kept saying "I know you from somewhere, you're too cute to forget" on my second ride it took over 45 minutes for the cab to arrive because he said he insisted on picking me up, not allowing another driver to get me. I reported the cab number and his cell phone number (which I shouldn't have...) to the company and got no response. I'll save my cash for a different company. I'll never ride with them again. read more

Great cab service in Blono! They just expanded their fleet with newer car, definitely the best cab company around. read more

This company is horrible. They will drop you off but turn off their phones and won't take any calls when they are busy with college students downtown (10pm-2am Th, Fri, Sat). They literally don't answer the phone during these times and don't take any calls, although they advertise being open 24 hr/day. So glad uber came to town! read more

So we have been having some car issues and for the last 2 weeks I have needed to get a ride to work since we were down to one car. In my prior town we didn't have much in the way of a cab service so this was my first time actually using one. My experience has been fantastic. They are always on time or a little early. The drivers themselves are fantastic. Some are very quiet and others will chat your leg off if you are interested in conversation. Just due to the vehicle situation it really has been an incredible stress reliever knowing that we have this in town. Ideally I won't need their services again for a long time if our car is actually fixed, but it is great to know that this option is there for me when it is needed. read more

Gave it a 1 star for the horrible call centre personnel!! The woman that answered the call was down right rude and obnoxious and didn't know how to speak to customers !! The service was delayed and she refused to listen to us when we informed her that the cab won't be able to pick us up at the point she insisted we wait due to road blocks. Eventually we had to walk with all our luggage to the point we had told her to send the cab instead of where she insisted we wait!! On the bright side our cab driver was really nice so no complaints there. read more

I have lived in B/N for over 10 years and have always used Checker Cab for everything. But recently they have changed. On three seperate occasions I have tried to get a ride and all three times I was told that they weren't accepting calls. I was told to call back in 40 minutes, which I did and when I called back I was snipped at and told they weren't taking calls again and to call back. I did not call back. The third time was this past Saturday. I was downtown at 10:45ish wanting to catch a cab home. Downtown was dead, so I called and was told they weren't taking calls. For being soo against Uber you would think you would have your act together and prove that Uber isn't needed in this town. Clearly Uber is needed because the cab companies in this town suck. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced! We called to get a van for 6 and we were told it would be 30 minutes. After we waited one hour we tried to call to check on it, the lady operator (Sandy/Tracy?) I was too upset to remember her name would answer the phone and just put you on hold. She would not say just one minute or anything that resembled customer service. Once we finally got through to her she told us that our van was still not ready and that its their companies standard policy to be over thirty minutes late! Once I explained how terrible this is she proceeded to tell me that she didn't have to deal with me and hung up on me! Thankfully I was just in town for a family event and dont actually live in Bloomington because if I ever needed to depend on Checker cab I would be let down 100% of the time. For any young entrepreneurs in the Bloomington IL area you could start a cab service and take over all of the business in this town because of how horrible Checker cab is. I feel bad for the owner (Maybe Eric) because there is no way he can know how terrible this woman is for his company and continue to keep her as an employee. Pay a friend or family member the money to drive, Checker Cab will not be there for you when you need them. I have to give one star but I would give 0 if I could. read more

A guest at my hotel called Checker cab and scheduled an 8:25am cab to state farm. The cab NEVER SHOWED UP! Just didn't show up. The dispatcher said the cab was 7 minutes away. Then ten minutes late said the cab was one minute away. And then apparently the cab driver called my guest and said it was going to be another 10 minutes at 8:45. This is ridiculous. I have had noting but terrible experiences with Checker read more

Parents do not count on this company. I called for a cab for my daughter and the lady (Sandy) had the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will drive my daughter to and from school from now on. I will never count on Checker cab ever again. Parents if you care about the safety of your children don't use Checker cab because they don't care about your children's safety, but like SANDY said She will take your money. Aaron I was not treated fair by your manager SANDY at all. I will let all my child's friends know not to use your cab. SANDY had the worst customer service I ever experienced. I will never trust my children with your company ever again. I DESERVE AN APOLOGY FROM YOUR COMPANY!!!! read more

I asked for a cab more than two hours prior to my needing it as I had an important appointment. The time requested was for 12:45 p.m Driver didn't show up even after 1:09. Obviously that made me almost miss my appoitnment which again was very important., Called company twice only to get an unacceptable response. I will never ever call them again. They didn't even have the decency to call me to tell me that they would be late. read more

I called last night about a taxi rates. I am from southern Illinois and never been in a taxi in my life. So I called and asked about rates and I know that when you have a taxi the rates are determined off of distance. So I asked and the guy said for "25-30 minutes"? And I said "for like 2 miles" and he said "well where would we be picking you up?" And all I said was "Normal" because I felt like it shouldn't have to give my address if I'm just asking for rate, so he then says "Jesus Christ" like I'm stupid and don't get what he's saying. It was very unprofessional and he made me feel stupid all because it would be my first time in a taxi and I don't understand how the rates work. So I just hung up after he said that to me. read more

I have never dealt with a less professional company. The female dispatch agent is rude and unpleasant. While the driver I had was very agreeable, he was unprofessional. Ultimately will never call this company again, and advise my friends and family to call other companies as well. read more
