Came in almost an hour before close and was told they didn't have enough green chili for 2 orders, and and when asked for a simple request of chips on the side for nachos, the malicious compliance was that of the entire order was put in separate containers, to be assembled later .. and after a 20 minute wait, another order came in, waited, recieved their order and left well before my order was handed to me. I was friendly and forgiving the whole time, but the attitude of the manager was that of you are putting me out by ordering food, please go someplace else. The entire staff had a lousy attitude as a matter of fact, no one had the slightest bit of urgency, and they continued to close down the restaurant, with 5 or 6 employees (so they were not short-staffed at all), and I felt very unwelcome the entire time. I could not recommend this place to anyone. Go someplace, anyplace else - you will have a better experience. Even after the long wait, the food was not that good - it had a burned taste. Just made my first and last visit to Rico Pollo. The good. Clean and sparkling during the opening hours. Shredded chicken was tasty. Lots of spices. The Average. Counter staff was somewhat distant. The ugly. "No flautas today." They are the cheapest item on the menu at $3 and you don't have any? Microwaved nachos with cheese wiz. Best of all, they do the microwaving right in front of you at the counter. Expensive. Nachos de Pollo + drink was $9. I can eat a Chipotle for that and get better food. (A 1/2 chicken is $14. The best smooth beans ever! Been coming to this place since I was a child, and now it's my favorite taco dinner for the nights that I'm not feeling up to the task of cooking. Ordered the whole chicken (no wings, so I don't understand why they call it whole) I asked the cashier if I could order two additional thighs without sides, after checking with another employee which clearly said yes, two thighs for $3.50, I decided to add them to the whole incomplete chicken without wings. I received 3 plates with chicken, beans, rice and grilled jalapeños & onions and one plate with a single thigh cut in half. I asked the same girl (not the cashier) that clearly quoted me two thighs chicken only for $3.50 and she said that they had made a mistake, it was $3.50 each! If I wanted two I had to pay for the second one, she was sorry for the misunderstanding. Overall the chicken was good, not great (the breasts were very dry) and the chicken is smaller than average hence the 3 stars. Will have to look for another place. The grilled chicken here is so good, always get a plate with their salsa, pickled pink onions tortillas beans and rice, cheaply priced and super fast service. I always find myself craving Rico Pollo on one of those Friday nights that I don't want to cook but I also don't want to go out. The hus and I always get a whole chicken meal and end up having leftovers that last a couple more meals. It's slightly reminiscent of El Pollo Loco in California, however I'd say the quality is better. The menu is rather limited but that doesn't bother me because I believe they should just focus on what they do best, whole and half chickens. The counter staff was cordial, not overly accommodating or talkative but I suspect there is somewhat of a language barrier. I appreciate that I usually seem them cleaning. Really good food the place is always very clean and staff for the most part is friendly and helpful. Went there a few nights ago for dinner and was served by this asian gentleman and boy let me tell you his customer service was outstanding. He helped me through the menu helped me to order the best possible meal for my family and was just so nice hardworking and friendly. Rico Pollo should appreciate having an employee like that. Have been coming to this restaurant for years and years, before this location on 44th and Sheridan I would dine in or take out at 52nd and federal, always left there with extra food or was VERY full! Within the past calendar year the portions have been so little I'm still hungry when I leave or should I say starving! My whole family agrees. Tonight ordered half chicken dark and received less than a quarter, called them back to ask if I needed to bring the food they said just come back so I did. Just for them to argue over and over and over and over and over again with me saying it was correct when it wasn't. Treated me like I was stealing from them when I've spent thousands of dollars over the years in their restaurants. If that's a half a chicken that is the smallest chicken I have ever seen! It's sad to say that I give this place a -5 stars and I don't recommend it anymore to anybody! You get more money worth going to Arby's next door. WASTE OF MY MONEY.
