After working with 3 different companies to estimate the cost and options to remodel our master bathroom, we went with Ricky. We couldn't have done any better! After spending time with us understanding what we wanted, he gave us a very detailed estimate of what to expect. After we compared this estimate to others and decided to go with him, he then spent time with us visiting the Tile Shop and cabinetry companies and picking out details. When we changed our minds and decided to do more tile, he was very prompt in giving us an adjusted estimate, and we never felt like he had under-bid, we knew it was our decision. We asked him to adjust the start date for the project twice, and he accommodated, communicating very well as the date approached. On day one, Francisco spent the entire day just prepping and protecting the adjoining bedroom and traffic way. He wrapped the curtains! We thought it was a bit overkill at first, until the demolition and later the tiling started and the dust arrived! They showed up on time everyday, constantly asked for input and feedback, were very respectful with our ignorance on how a remodel went, and were patient with our energetic Labrador Retriever. There were a few hiccups when parts were the wrong size or the vanities and granite came from the factories with errors, but Ricky and the guys adjusted effortlessly. Peter, Francisco and Andreas were the regulars and we got to know them pretty well. Hard working, know their stuff, and just nice guys to just talk to. We invited them and Francisco came to our 4th of July cookout! The project turned out better than we could have imagined. We have a beautiful bathroom with a walk-in shower, soaking tub and spacious cabinets. We wouldn't consider having anyone else do any work on the house again, and we feel it was worth every penny. Quality of work, price, and time were the top priorities for us when selecting a contractor to do our home renovation. My wife and I recently purchased a new house in Lake Ridge, Virginia and wanted to remodel the kitchen, master bathroom, and a guest bathroom. We are new to the area and have never had so much work done to a house we've owned so we did not know what to expect. After Ricky's team (who are all very polite, professional, and helpful) finished the work and after we had been living in the house for a month Ricky gave us a quality assurance call. I mentioned to Ricky that a few electrical outlets had gone out but I was not sure if the issue was related to the renovation. I had Ricky and his team do a full kitchen remodel for us on a town home we bought in October of last year. We also included hardwood floors throughout the main level and remodeled a powder room as well. After reviewing he scope of the project, I asked Ricky to sit down with me and put together an estimated project plan, cost estimates and payment schedule. This is the first time I have ever had a contractor give me a full breakdown of all costs and provided transparency into labor and materials cost for each major part of the project. He was flexible in letting us determine what items we wanted him to buy and what other things, like appliances we would buy and have him install. Ricky's team was always on time, always there by 7 am and he was also available for me whenever I had questions and whenever I felt something had to be reviewed or changed. We did have 2 or 3 changes made, and Ricky would generate a change order by the next day, created an addendum for the contract and updated costs and timelines. We hired Ricky to build our new kitchen, bringing it from the 80s into the the current era. We interviewed half a dozen contractors, and Ricky stood out for several reasons. He was extremely professional and personable. He was polite and ready to share lots of information about possibilities. He gave us solutions where none had seemed to exist. His price was reasonable. And finally, he genuinely wanted our business. And that last one did it for me. When work started, his crew was again extremely professional and considerate of our home and our family. His crew showed up on the dot every morning and executed the day's work as planned. His workmanship is top-notch, his knowledge of construction practices and materials is second to none. Most importantly, for me, his attitude was not that of a tired, know-it-all contractor, but that of a genuine partner in the project interested in giving us what we wanted, and wanting to make us happy to the maximum extent possible. In 2017-2018, we worked with Ricky on an extensive remodel and addition of our 1940s townhome, including a new kitchen and 2.5 bathrooms. It was six-figure, five-month project that encountered many challenges along the way--mostly relating to issues endemic in any old home. At every point, Ricky and his team were calm, professional and adept in handling the issues and finding solutions. I interviewed ~15 different contractors before choosing Ricky Can Build It, and I'd happily make the same choice again and work with Ricky on any future project. He wasn't the cheapest option, but his pricing was very competitive and the work is a step above most of the other work I've seen. I only spoke with one contractor who I believe would have provided a higher quality end product, and his pricing was 30-40% higher. One of the things I appreciated most during the project is how dependable Ricky's team is. They were here every morning at 7 a.m., 5 or 6 days a week. They only missed one day from start to finish, and that was because of an emergency on another project--a roof had to get finished before a big storm came through. I've watched many other neighbors' projects halt for days or weeks at a time because a contractor has trouble lining up the right people. Description of work: 1950's rambler complete kitchen remodel, remove load bearing walls and add beam, remodel bathroom, new exterior patio door, new roof, floating dormer, added front porch with gable roof addition, new Hardie siding. Ricky Can Build It (RCBI) does great work. Prompt, professional, accurate, knowledgeable is how I would describe RCBI overall. We actually started communicating with the owner, aptly named Ricky, while I was overseas and he was still willing to discuss our project. Ricky met or came in under all of his quotes. I also feel he is almost a construction savant, I've never met someone that can do calculations in his head and just know random construction facts like he does, it's rather impressive. It's amazing how he can process all of the information. I also appreciated that the large majority of his crew, as he states on his site, are direct employees and not temp or subs, and all have their expertise and certifications, such as plumbing, electrical, etc. He demands a lot from his employees and I feel they deliver and are treated well for it. The crews were always friendly and tidy and I never once saw an issue where I thought they were cutting corners. On the contrary, the RCBI crew ensured to do all of the work to the highest standards. Yes, I'm giving them 5 stars. That doesn't mean our process went perfectly or there weren't any hiccups, it's more of a reflection on how Ricky handled those issues and the mutually decided upon outcome that we, as homeowners, came away from feeling we had full understanding. Any remodel process has the potential to come with issues, sometimes massive, so just be aware that Ricky tends to deal with them quickly and professionally, giving you several options if possible. Also, Ricky can be quite busy and I don't think he has an administrative assistant. While he is very responsive to phone/email/text, and when you are dealing with his company you are actually dealing with the owner, I think Ricky could benefit from some administrative support. This could be remedied as of now, I'm not sure. Also, as with many general contractors, RCBI takes on a lot of work and sometimes aren't able to show up to work on your job because of some logistical issues with another job. That's just how it seems to work with smaller companies so be aware you may not have a crew at your house 100% of the time every day until the job is complete, but he tries his best to not let this happen and communicates well when it does. So, I highly recommend Ricky Can Build It. You will absolutely get your money's worth, especially in the N.Va. region and you can know the work will indeed be completed correctly. read more

Last year Ricky completed the building of our mid-century modern addition. This addition included a dining room and sun room with high ceilings and a unique corner window obtained from Canada, a new master bathroom, bedroom, a completely gutted kitchen remodel and carport restructure and remodel. The results of the work done by Ricky and his crew on our mid-century modern addition were completely fantastic! We have had folks in the neighborhood come by and ask us who was the contractor was. We have heartily recommended Ricky Can Build It to anyone who asks. We also had an architect stop by and take photos of our addition for his future designs. A little history: In 2017, before we had heard of Ricky Can Build It, my wife who is a certified interior designer, came up with a interior and exterior addition design that would compliment our mid-century modern home and increase its curb appeal. We signed up with a licensed Virginia Class A general contractor who had a good and long track record. In the middle of our project, the contractor decided to fall apart and have his contactor license revoked. He left us in the middle of the summer which turned into winter with a plywood wall and an unsafe and unstable structure. After getting burned and in a panic to salvage our project and protect our home, we shopped for a contractor that could complete the project and help get us out of this mess! One day while it was raining, we noticed a ceiling/roof leak in the older part of the house and looked in the attic and noticed that the exhaust flue had been disconnected by the previous contractor and was venting into the attic, which was creating a life-safety situation and putting my family in danger. Ricky, to his credit, sent over his HVAC contractor to fix this dangerous situation and did so even before we had even signed our contract. This speaks volumes about the kind of person Ricky is and his high integrity and professionalism. We will be forever grateful to Ricky and his crew. My only regret is that we didn't find Ricky sooner and have him be our general contractor from the beginning. Even though he didn't charge us for design work because we had already done the design before he took over the project, he added some outstanding design ideas that were implemented during the construction. In addition, he deftly negotiated the red tape that existed with the county and the inspectors who often can change their minds. I honestly don't believe any other contractor in the area other than Ricky could have taken over and completed this project so successfully. We checked the permit status of other projects that Ricky had done and noticed that his projects were completed in a very timely fashion especially compared to other general contractors. Based upon my observations of Ricky and his crew, I believe the keys to Ricky's success and the fact that he can complete construction projects so professionally and at a fair price, is that he employs his own professional crews full-time year round. He doesn't have to rely on sub-contractors who may drag a project on causing delays and increasing costs. Also, I observed how professional he and his crew is. They have their own neat and clean vehicles, wear uniforms and show up in a timely and consistent fashion. They took care of business! I also noticed how well he treats his crew. For example, he invites them and pays them to attend a monthly breakfast. The crews appreciate the full-time work year round which I believe contributes to their professionalism which is passed on to the homeowner. A tremendous job on a complete kitchen remodel from start to finish. After mulling over contractors for weeks through reviews and recommendations and five interviews with various companies, I chose Ricky because I was impressed with the plan that he presented and confidence that he could make our vision, not just happen, but could make it even better. That and the fact that his estimate was the most reasonable, and he promised to do his best to keep on budget. Work began even earlier than was first planned, and completed in the time that Ricky promised. He has a superior, professional crew that arrived on time every single day and were nothing but polite, respectful, and hard working. I originally contacted Ricky to do some odd jobs around my house. He showed up when expected and spent time going through each task and telling me what he felt needed to be done. I was given an estimate the same day and even though he ran into a few unexpected issues he didn't go over the price he quoted me. I then had him retile my basement downstairs and reface my fireplace. He gave me an estimate for both jobs and again, even though he ran into some issues, he stayed within the quote he gave me. From the first meeting, Ricky was unmatched with all three marks. He was thorough in evaluating what needed to be done. Explained things that we did not notice or did not know. Best ever! I recommend Ricky without reservation. I've worked with other contractors but Ricky and his team are the best. The contract was clear and understandable and he sat down with us to patiently read through it and answer questions before we signed. The jobs we contracted for included the following so that it's clear that Ricky can handle a wide range of major jobs: Redo of 1970s master bath to allow my mother to "age in place" as it's called, with plenty of reinforced safety bars and shower options to allow for seated showering, radiant heat under tile floor, mounting of floating vanity with mirror an lighting, removal of wall between dining room and kitchen, installation of new kitchen cabinetry, recessed lighting, granite countertops, iand big modern fans with wall-mounted remote control, even a custom cabinet Ricky built for my mom's newspapers and crossword puzzle books. They removed a non-functioning wood stove and installed a huge new window in its place, redoing the siding and paint so that it looked perfect from the outside, too. They put insulation in two walls in kitchen and family room and drywall looked perfect. The main level of the house was redone from laminate to beautiful maple hardwood and the stairs were also replaced! All the bedrooms got new carpet and all the walls and ceilings were painted beautifully. With the house having been built in the 1970s, electric and plumbing had to be upgraded to meet code. Ricky obtained proper permits from both Fairfax County and Town of Herndon. The same team worked with us throughout the project They showed up daily at 7 am and each day was like Christmas to us because we'd see so much progress. They let us know ahead of time if they would not be coming but that happened only a couple of times, otherwise they kept up the momentum and got the job done without the fits and starts and no-shows that are often the case with contractors I've used in the past. He and his team are skilled, reliable, polite, clean and neat, all around a great pleasure to work with. Ricky made suggestions but was never pushy. My mother, sister, and I ended up adding a whole lot of extra work to the original plan and he took it in stride. Ricky made sure that my 88-year-old mother was comfortable and safe and always able to watch her TV shows well away from the construction area.
