Came to my home on 8/2 to review specs for the requested project. I haven't heard back and an estimate was never provided.

During a recent home improvement project to install hardwood flooring, I removed the laminate flooring that was already in place. Upon removal, I noticed that the stairs were not only badly damaged (from a previous owner's work), but were failing in multiple areas when accessed underneath. This was no longer a home improvement project, but now became a safety issue. I contacted Jonathan on a Tuesday afternoon letting him know that we had a staircase that was in need of repair. I reached out to 10 companies (that listed on their Yelp reviews that they offered carpentry) requesting a carpenter or carpentry skills, but only Jonathan and another company indicated that they could repair stairs that were damaged and in need of repair. The other company was not as responsive and indicated that they were fully booked through the summer, and that they didn't have the time. After texting and calling Jonathan throughout the day Tuesday, Jonathan indicated that he would come out the following morning to assess the damage with one of his highly skilled employees. Jonathan and his skilled carpenter were timely and direct in what needed addressed. He indicated that we would replace 10 of the 13 treads, and that they would reinforce all of the stairs underneath with 2x4's and other materials. Jonathan and his skilled carpenter were not only efficient, timely, and responsive, but the quality exceeded all expectations. Jonathan's carpenter worked nonstop Wednesday (not even a break!) and finished ahead of schedule on Thursday. The high quality work was much more than we had anticipated, and the price was reasonable (considering the urgency and timing). I highly recommend Jonathan and his company. Jonathan and team did a full bathroom reno for me and the outcome was great with only a few issues. Everyone was very friendly and hardworking, and they always checked in when a decision had to be made. They did demo of the entire tub shower and floor, installed a window in the shower wall, tiled, painted, epoxyed the tub, and installed a new vanity, fan, and toilet. The room was probably original to our 1970s house and was in very poor shape, and now it's one of my favorite rooms in the house. The issues that came up were a rather hasty paint job, but after I requested caulking, filling, and sanding some spots it was done to a good standard. The room has a wood beam that had paint splotches from previous jobs, and they removed most of those - I did have to finish a few myself. The tub epoxy had to be done twice and still has some places with drips, which was the most disappointing part, since I have seen DIY jobs that look similar. We had to repurchase a toilet when the new one we got didn't fit, after I had specifically asked if we needed a particular size. At the end of the job, a few things that I hadn't realized would cause upcharges were mentioned as being added cost to my initial estimate. Jonathan agreed to honor the original quote when I mentioned that I expected to be informed when a small change would add cost (moving a light fixture about a foot, painting the outside of the door). He offered a small compensation for the poor tub refinish. The tiling job is perfect and looks amazing, and overall the team understood my vision and helped make it a reality. The whole job took about a month and they prioritized installing the toilet so we could use the room (our only downstairs bathroom) ASAP. I requested about ten quotes and estimates from various contractors. Jon came in and knew exactly what to do and gave me one of the best quotes. Additionally, I was comfortable with the reviews and photos I saw from other work his team completed. So far, so good! Jon and the team started working to remove the Popcorn ceiling on Monday. They were on time and started immediately. On day two, I came back to check the progress, and it looks great. I cant wait to see the final results; I'm happy with my experience so far, and I will update my review once the job is complete. We had our kitchen walls removed halfway down and turned them into an L-shaped island. Jonathan's crew showed up on time and went right to work. In the end, I am happy with how it looks, but there were a few problems. Jonathan and I went over the measurements several times, and since I was simply moving around existing cabinets, I only had to buy two more. I bought the correct sizes, but on the day of renovation, the cabinets would not fit unless one half-hall was moved forward, and both walls extended on the ends several inches. This cost an extra $1000 I did not anticipate. I was teaching from my office upstairs and when I came downstairs the second day, I found three wall cabinet doors installed upside down with the knobs on the top. The island was not patched and painted, which was stated in the contract as included. To Jonathan's credit, one of his crew returned the next day to fix the doors and patch and paint the island walls. My advice is if you hire them, be sure you are there to regularly check on their progress. read more

I contacted Jon through Yelp along with five or six other contractors. He came out and did the estimate, and I felt he provided the most competitive estimate with respect to the things I wanted and balancing how much work I would have to do myself with purchasing items and the like. I also felt he was more honest and realistic than some of the other contractors I asked for an estimate. He was able to start very quickly and ultimately I'm very satisfied with how things came out. I liked the options his company offered for cabinetry and counters. There were some scheduling issues from time to time, which were a little annoying, stuff like showing up on Saturdays while not showing up one day during the workweek, but Jon's crew finished the job in 2.5 weeks out of a projected 4 weeks. They were professional and courteous. I thought the tiling job (floor and backsplash) was especially good, while the cabinetry has some fit and finish issues. Jon was gracious about fixing problems at the end of the job, including helping me out when some of my appliances began misbehaving after being reinstalled. He was also quick to respond whenever I had questions or concerns. Ultimately, there are still some little things but they are isolated to the insides of cabinets where I will never see them behind my dishes and such. In the end I think it balances out to a great experience for my first ever remodel and I love my new kitchen! read more

We contracted this company for a bathroom renovation but it was a headache working with them. A lot of mistakes were done, and they try to take short cuts on everything so you really have to be on top of the work they do. Though some of the mistakes were fixed after bringing it up a couple of different times but not everything was able to be amended. Like the lippage on the tile work, thick grout line on tub surround, uneven ceiling, crooked window frame, and they only screwed the sink on one side of the wall instead of on the two corners for whatever reason. We finished up with Jonathan and his team just over a year ago for a full kitchen, and two bathrooms makeover. The tricky part about our situation was that we wanted the remodel done on an empty house from across the country. We received quotes from a few contractors and Jonathan's were the most reasonable and realistic for the work we wanted done. He agreed to work with us long distance. My neighbor regularly checked in and let the team into the house so they could work. Jonathan worked with me to pick up items I ordered and did a decent job communicating with the time difference. There were some shortcuts taken as we weren't on site to inspect everything that was going on, but if they were discovered in time, Jonathan made sure to correct the issue. The only downsides we experienced was some lack of communication, and some finishing issues. Once we were in town however, he was sure to address any issues we brought up, and made good on our expectations as best he could. Jonathan's a good project manager and his team (Javier) did a great job on the installation. Price was very reasonable in my opinion comparative to others in Northern Virginia. I had a variety of work done- Crown Molding, Door molding, cabinet molding, fake cabinet door panels, etc. He seemed more willing to work with a hodge podge of smaller projects which is great and convenient to me. The important thing is that the quality of work and craftsmanship was not lost even though it was a bunch of random projects rolled into one. read more
