Had these guys remove a large oak tree from my yard. They ended up dropping part of the tree on my shed and crushing my neighbors fence. Apparently they accidently used an old rope to lower a large section of the tree down and it broke. They almost even crushed one of their own guys. They repaired my shed and my neighbors fence. They ended up giving me a discount because of the damage and when I attempted to use a coupon in a local mailer they wouldn't accept it. They said they already gave me a discount because of the damage. I'm not too picky about my property, but if you think these guys are going to come in and not put vehicle marks all over your lawn or crack your driveway with heavy equipment you are wrong. No big deal for me, but I know some people are crazy about that sort of thing. Thankfully I don't have any trees left on my property and so I won't need to use any tree service company again. read more

I've never had a green thumb or a green anything. My house is surrounded by trees and that sometimes can be bad if you don't know how to take care of them. So...who did I call? Rick's Tree Service is one of the best around. They were reliable, came out when they said they would and met me at a time that was good for me. The gentleman who came out to inspect the trees was very helpful pointing out what I needed to do to maintain the forest that surrounded my house. Unfortunately, one of the trees was dying and because of the way it was leaning, he recommended that it be taken down. The tree came down within a day and the stump was ground to provide enough mulch for the other shrubs and plants in the front of my house. This was all done at a very reasonable price. I had received estimates from other tree companies and Rick's was definitely the lowest. They even came back a day later to make sure that they hadn't left anything and that I was satisfied with the job. I was so impressed with them that I use them all the time now for maintaining the greenery and inspecting the trees on the property. They are able to cut back trees and limbs that are close to utility lines and other types of structures; they can remove broken limbs; inspect for damage to root structure and provide nutrients and hydration to all your trees. No tree is too big or too small for these guys. read more

Extremely unprofessional managerial staff with poor record keeping. Waited months for them to follow through on simple coordation with PECO that I was able to accomplish in days for a different project. Their lack of payment records has now led to them suing me for payment for a bill that was paid and for which I have a web receipt. Extremely disappointed and frustrated by their ineptitude. read more

Absolutely horrible. They destroyed two of my driveways when they took down my tree. They don't train their employees and because they screw up so many times, you have to sign a waiver so they can get away with it. I complained on Angies List, and they lied on their response to make me look bad. They need to go out of business, now! read more

I had a large tree cut down at an apartment building and hired Rick's to do the job. The salesperson/arborist (John) was very knowledgable, respectful, and quoted a good price. Other than the sales person, this job was quite a hassle and I won't use Rick's again. The crew showed up 3 hours later than the appointment time. After cutting down the large tree, they carelessly left it in the middle of the parking lot, which prevented the tenants from accessing the parking lot. This generated alot of phone calls to our management office, and the tenants were rightfully upset. I was told the tree would be cut and removed in one day, which is the standard protocol at every other tree removal company I have used. After numerous phone calls over 2 days to Rick's office, they sent a crew to move the tree. This crew simply moved it to the sidewalk. It then took another 2 days for them to remove the tree completely from the sidewalk. While I was told it would be a one day job, it took 5 days to cut and remove the tree. Another area of frustration is it is difficult to get anyone on the phone at their main office. I estimate that no one answered their phone during business hours at least 50% of the time. This was not the case for the salesperson, John, who always answered my call on his cell. I've used 4 other tree companies in Philly over the years, including Blue Bell Tree Service, Bartlett, and others. While RIck's was marginally cheaper ($100), the amount of hassles wasn't worth it. All 4 other companies answer their phones, complete jobs in one day (or tell me upfront otherwise), and have an overall professional crew. read more

Left a message for Ricks tree service for a job removing a tree in my back yard. Was contacted by them and set up an appointment for the next day at 8:00 AM for their free estimate. By 9:45 that day no one had showed up or contacted me. I called and left a message that I could no longer wait and not to bother coming out. read more

I was very nervous about having this tree work done. I have a small property, but it has a lot of old trees and borders several other properties. Rick's brought a crew of about 5 and lots of modern equipment. They laid heavy rubber pads down so that they didn't damage my sidewalk or lawn when they brought the bucket truck onto my yard so they could access hard to reach areas high above my house and over my neighbor's property. They worked carefully and professionally and did anything I asked. This included pruning close to utility lines. I thought I would have cleanup to do. But that was also amazing. They removed all branches, raked and even used blowers to get everything up. They did a fantastic job. read more

We had a very large limb come down during the storms that damaged our fence. They were able to come out quickly to give an estimate ( a few other companies didn't even return my call). The estimate was fair and the work was scheduled within a few days. They showed up on time and worked very hard on a holiday weekend (July 3rd) to get the job done. They did a great job and took care to not cause additional damage to the fence. I also had them trim the tree and the tree in front of my house. They did a very professional job. They workers were friendly and careful not to damage my property. The cleaned up all the debris at left my property in good condition. Great Service! Highly recommended! read more

Called on Sunday to have a tree removed and was told someone would be out on Monday. Called on Monday night and was told someone would be out on Tuesday. It's now Wednesday night and no call or anything. Hired someone else. read more

These are the cheapest game in town. They run rough, so make sure its not a job that requires extreme care. They failed to mention that 20 foot sections of the tree would be sitting on the sidewalk overnight. BEWARE if you do not specify and separately pay for the stump grinding they will not do it. Nope... I called Rick's after seeing one of their signs in a neighbor's yard. (Guess they were doing work there?) I had a few trees that needed to be removed and also wanted them to install some artificial turf grass in our dog yard. Pretty simple and straight forward stuff. They gave me a date and time to come out and give me an estimate, then never showed up. I called several times after and left messages, but none of my calls were ever returned. I don't understand how a company can stay in business when they don't respond to paying customers! I have since found a WONDERFUL guy... Richard Wills and his sons from Wills Tree Service in Coatesville. These guys are absolutely wonderful! (Please check out my Yelp review for them... I cannot speak highly enough about the Wills family and I would highly recommend that you check them out if you are in need of tree service... and DO NOT waste your time with Rick's!) read more

We used Rick's Tree service when we bought our home in Media over 4 years ago. There were three big trees which needed to come down and Rick said it would be $13,000 and we agreed even though it seemed a bit high. My husband( before we were married) had used him for a couple small trees at his previous home in Springfield and he was satisfied. We were not home at the time the trees were coming down but told him we would be there later on that morning. Well what a surprise we had when we got there- we got there earlier then we and he expected. A huge tree fell into the house and smashed the drywall and one of his men found a neighbor and was about to patch up the wall and not tell us.My husband agreed to pay Rick $11,000 instead of $13,000 but I wanted to sue him for what his men had tried to do- well actually the neighbor had started to do the drywall when we arrived. Anyway I would not hire this company to pick up twigs for me plus Rick was obnoxious. Do what you want but I like to give people a warning of what could happen to them. read more

I recently had almost $2000 of tree work done by Rick's Tree Service. Everything was great until the very end, when Rick's apparently felt that leaving 100s of pounds of wood chips in somebody's front yard is an okay thing to do. Shame on me for not reading the paperwork closely enough, but shame on them to do business this way. I am assuming that they do not have many repeat customers. Read all paperwork closely; even using a credit card costs extra! And thanks for the tire marks in my front yard. Finally, I'm very impressed at how concerned you were about the dead tree falling down on somebody. Wait. What's that? It wasn't dead? Oh well, thanks for the business! read more

We called Ricks in an emergency situation after having a tree fall on our house. They came out immediately and told us that insurance pays for whatever we submit. They showed up the next morning to remove the limb (that we took off of the roof) and charged us more money than we paid to have 6 other trees down. After disputing the bill, the person I dealt with was rude and indicated that, "I could'nt count," as we still had to pay $1000.00 out of our pocket, even though they were paid by our insurance company. I think that they took advantage of us in an emergency situation. Their work was not worth the overpriced amount they charged. read more

Not happy. Had an appointment with them scheduled. They called 45 minutes prior to the appointment and said they would not be able to make it. Lost my business, will never call them again. If a person takes time to schedule an appointment and use their time to wait for you, you better show up and not call 45 minutes prior to the appointment! Also, the phone line hold when I made the original appointment should have warned me, it took around 5 minutes to get someone on the phone. read more

My neighbors hired Rick's tree service to cut down some large fur trees. Just as another reviewer mentioned they left the branches in the street and didn't come back until the next day. The larger trucks are still on the sidewalk so who knows when they will return for them. When they were leaving the second time they drove all over my lawn to turn their truck around rather than take the extra time to back up a few times and keep the truck in the street. Just as the another reviewer mentioned no one answers the phone when you call during business hours. I've gone through a few calls with receptionists (one hung up on me) and I still haven't heard from Rick. Even if they come back and fix the lawn today and re-seed it will be weeks until my lawn is recovered. My bet is that not all the seed will take and I'll end up with weeds there instead. Rick's doesn't care about your property contrary to what he professes on his website. Avoid hiring him if you care about your property or getting the job cleaned up quickly. read more

I called Rick's last, because they advertise to do so! After they finally called back a few days later we set an appt time for a consult. The guy who came out (I forget his name but he had a strong Scottish accent) knocked on the door and when I opened it never introduced himself. I was also waiting on deliveries, so I had to ask him who he was. Very unprofessional. I started to show him my requested work and he refused to do any pruning only said he would remove the trees instead. He also refused to itemize the tree removals, like any good company would do. He tried to tell me I would pick and choose work if he did and he wanted me to pay the full amount. At one point I commented I had a previous quote and told him what it was. He laughed and said Rick's would cost me more than double the other quote. He also badmouthed the other company and told me I should go with them but they will butcher my trees. Well, since it was tree removal, butchering of my trees was actually the desired result. This estimator was overall a jerk and unfriendly and I will never recommend this company to anyone.
