This is one cool pawn shop was my first impression when I walked in. This place has a basement full of items along with the first floor. This place is very cool and it was like going to a museum with all the old and odd items on display. Who ever prices the items obvious shoots for the moon and everything is super expensive to be haggled down to a better price it looked like. After seeing how super expensive the prices were the woman asked me if I would help her get a huge vase looking thing down from a high shelf, I said after seeing how expensive everything is I'm not touching anything in here, see my pictures. Even if your not going to do business with them it's worth stopping by and just looking around because the place is just cool. read more

Rick's Olde Gold - they made my day today! I had been hearing their ads for years, packed-up some old never used jewelry & for some oddball reason, just kept putting it off. Well TODAY I finally visited this wonderful place. Tom, Trevor, & Veronica are the best. I'm so glad I finally got my but-tocks in gear & made the visit. It's a museum of sorts & I happily took it all in while my stuff was being appraised. Thank you!! ps - life is short, don't put it off. read more

Straight forward and knows the market. Left with greater knowledge of gold. Willy Neighborhood. Good bars and restaurants all walkable.

Great find. I came across on ebay, I wanted a USA seller, never know on ebay but I came across a ring that was white gold and vintage. My husband is a jewelry manufacturer in Los Angeles, but can't make vintage art deco obviously and I wanted one for Valentines day, he checked it out and said go ahead and buy it. When it arrived my husband was pleased with the ring and if I have his sign of approval it must be good. :) I will return for sure and will look out for more as I saved as my favorite seller and visit every so often to see what else I can find vintage. thank you thank you read more

THE place to go if you want to buy or sell jewelry. I had no idea they have such gorgeous rings!! If you are looking for an engagement ring, shop here first and you will save thousands of dollars...seriously. I went in to get a price on a ring and bracelet that I wanted to sell and then found a gorgeous diamond ring that I acquired for a fraction of the price you would be charged at a typical (extremely overpriced!) jewelry store. Super knowledgeable, straightforward, friendly people and incredibly fair prices. read more

Don't be worried about this place being a "pawn shop." The staff at this establishment always give you a fair price, are up for a laugh, and will point you in the right direction if they think you can get more for what you're trying to sell. Take your unwanted items here! They will definitely help you out. :) read more

I got three bids for my gold, silver and platinum. Ricks was $604 higher than the lowest bid. The second highest bidder didn't think one of the bracelets was gold. Trevor tested it and it turned out to be gold. Trevor saved me $347. They gave me the highest bid over the phone. I got 80% of the spot price for 14K gold and 85% on an 18K piece. They were very friendly and professional. Most important of all I felt they were totally trustworthy and they paid the best price. read more

Seriously some of the nicest people I've dealt with! Were incredibly kind and gave me a better deal than they had to. I'd absolutely recommend them! read more

As a first-time seller of items, I didn't know what to expect but through Tom's patience and kindness as he explained the ins and outs of selling, I knew I chose the correct business to work with. There was never any pressure to sell, looked at all my items whether there was any value in them or not and I certainly felt I was given more than a fair price on what they purchased. Working with someone who is knowledgeable and enjoys their job made my experience fun and positive. read more

More than five stars for friendly, professional, and giving staff! I went in to get an opinion on a ring and they ended up buying it from me for over 10x it's value as a donation to help during this crazy times!! Highly recommend. read more

This is a really unique spot on Willy Street. I dropped by one day because I was curious about what they had and I wanted to learn a little bit about silver. I was a little intimidated because I have been in some pawn shop spaces that felt kind of weird. For the most part I didn't get that vibe here. The folks behind the counter were friendly and very patient in answering my questions. They have all kinds of stuff here ranging from old guitars, statues, to jewelry and coins. It's a fun place to check out and explore, maybe pickup some earrings or a silver coin or two. read more

Looking for something really unique for that one person who seems to have everything? Check out this place! It is filled with some of the most unique items in the whole city of Madison!!! And the prices are very affordable! If you want to sell something this is the place. Very fair money for your items! read more

Sadly scammed. Brought thousands of dollars worth of Victorian/Art Deco/Native American jewelry in to sell and should have walked out when I was told my jewelry was "nothing special," but he'd "buy it to take pity on" me. Humiliating. Won't go back. I came home and thought I'd check eBay and Etsy for similar items just in case. Well, I missed out on $thousands$. Very sad, but I've learned my lesson. And his female assistant is hyper as Hell. Be careful! She had no problem throwing my expensive, late 19th jewelry around like it was yesterday's trash. She was irritated with me the entire time because she wanted to go home and was scratching my scrap gold to test it like a complete fiend. I finally had to say, "Easy with that please!" Ugh. Never again. read more

Love Ricks. He has a great selection and saves antique jewelry! If you are planning to look at pawn shops for antiques or jewelry definitely stop in to Ricks. Just beware that Rick does have a slightly condescending personality but he's really a sweetheart. Planning on buying my engagement ring here that is original from the 30s. Can't wait! Excellent prices, like a ring with over a carat for under 2K excellent. read more

From the outside, you'd never guess how much this place holds. It's a modern-day Olde Curiosity Shop. I could spend hours just looking at stuff, and they have several unique and functional pieces I plan to add to my collection over the next year or so! Prices are fair, staff and management exceptional and friendly, it's a great little Willy St shop. read more

BEST PLACE IN Madison to buy jewelry or pawn items! The staff is filled with information and extremely helpful! I will be back! I will never go to a nother pawn shop again! !! Rick's is the absolute best!! read more

Yeah, so I've lived in Madison for 13 years now. I've been to Lazy Jane's and the Willy St. co-op more times than I can count, but when it comes to the smaller shops on Williamson St. I never have really taken the time to stop in. I guess I felt like I needed a reason! Well, last week I had a reason to stop into Rick's Olde Gold, located across the street from St. Vinny's. I had picked up a copper antique in Door County and wanted to know if it was possible to get it polished up because I was giving it as a gift to someone. I love a good thrift store, and I had never thought of Rick's as such, but I will now! There are so many interesting items in that shop, not just antique or pre-owned jewelry, but antiques, funky art pieces, and other random objects of intrensic value. I stopped in on a busy day (the appraiser was in) so at first I felt like I may be in the way, but once I got someone's attention I was able to ask if they might have a way to help me out. I was told they were busy but they'd do their best to get around to it. I asked them how much money I should bring back with me when I picked it up and Rick said it'd be on the house because he didn't get around to helping me right away when I came in! Uh, awesome! Guess you don't have to be at a big box store to find great customer service, and, my gift looked AWESOME! (Way nicer than the $15 I had paid for it!) Looking forward to the next time I'm in the neighborhood, never know what I'll discover next. read more

Very friendly sales associates! Thank you for giving us such a good deal on our rings. Will definitely be returning.

DO NOT SELL YOUR SCRAP GOLD HERE. If it's a desirable piece of gold jewelry than please do so. I'm sure Rick will give you a fair market value. But.. I mean a big butt! If he only offers you scrap value GO TO JIM"S COINS & STAMPS. THEY WILL GIVE YOU 96%(best spot rate in the city)OF CURRENT MARKET VALUE(RICK WILL ONLY GIVE YOU 80%). Olde Gold must mean old outdated gold market values. Another reason I will never sell my gold there is because of this.. I needed some quick cash. I went to him with some gold pieces(bits of wire & some casting grain(I'm a local small time Jeweler with a shop at home)) worth about $30.00. His employee wrote me a check but filled it out wrong. Instead of writing out another Rick said no deal. I left the store a humiliated chump. read more

I recently sold an engagement ring and they paid me a significant amount more than all the places I went. The place is not elegant by any means but I must say they have quite an eclectic mix of items... and personalities. In all it was an experience itself and entertaining as well, apparently he was expecting me to bring him food of some sort and I'm not sure if he was joking...so bring some food when you go just in case. They certainly made the best out of a bad choice I made. I just wanted to get the ring away from me but I'm glad I checked around! Thanks Rick for being fair I'll send you a fruit basket. read more

Very easy to deal with, I did research and they do pay the highest in town. Another place was going to pay me a 10K price for dental gold, where Rick paid for 18K. Very honest, friendly, and fun shop to look around in. I will go back, even to buy jewelry. read more

Rick and Heather are amazing, always willing to help. Excellent eclectic décor and the jewelry is excellent quality and very affordable. Love this place! read more

Fair scrap price but not nice the nicest experience. Young guy working is really nice but a bit rushed. The owner insulted my disabled mom telling her to walk next time she comes in; she had her walker which she was sitting on when he came in. He said this after she made it clear she didn't want to talk about her condition which is no ones business. He also asked if her legs where broken. He was trying to be funny and I was able to have good conversation with them after his comment but it was not a nice way to start what we wanted to be a long term relationship with a jeweler. Also, many pieces of jewelry where called trash and worthless by the woman working there. Given, many of them where worthless but they didn't need to be called junk and thrown around. It was not necessary and rude. I guess my honest review is that they where a bit to honest with their opinions. We won't be back and will be looking for a jeweler that respects customers and doesn't judge based on looks. read more

I am so glad I went to Rick's Olde Gold to sell my unused jewelry. I felt that I got a more than fair price for my items and I was treated in a respectful, friendly manner. AND, Rick tossed the coin and caught it in his pocket for me! Now that's customer service! Thanks Rick (and your lovely shop associate) for making my visit such a positive experience. I would definitely go back if I decide to sell more of my treasures! read more

I took a terrible fall, and with the doctor's visits wiping out my bank account I was forced to sell some items to feed my cats and myself. I went to ROG because I support local businesses and have been there before with no issue. I walk in and was immediately asked what happened to my foot. I told them I fell, Rick inquired further and wanted the story, I said it's really something he doesn't need to know and he insisted I tell him. I told him and he indignantly replied, "Oh Jesus Christ!", as in not believing my story. I brought in a unique woodwind instrument and he asked me what it was, I told him and he said, "Play it." "I cannot, my ribs are injury I can't even take a deep breath." He scoffed again and shook like head like "Of course you can't!" The younger gentleman took the time to look through my stuff and said that they hear a lot of weird stories, that's cool, I get it. But I expressed to him how upset I was (with tears in my eyes) with how I was treated by the owner. Cursed at with the Lord's name in disbelief, mocked and taken to a whole new low emotionally. Already down in the dumps I left crying and still can't let go of the way I was treated. Don't ask me what happened, don't tell me that you need to know and have the gall to blatantly not believe me. Never have felt this low about myself in a long time, if this is how he treats repeat customers, then I don't ever want to go back and that upsets me because I love my neighborhood and want to support my community without getting treated like a liar or criminal. read more

Was a pleasure dealing with the staff at Rick's Olde Gold. Had gold for sale and went to a few locations in town to get offers. Rick had the best offer by far. On top of paying the most for my items, they were nice enough to polish up a piece of jewelry for me and repair a clasp on a chain I had. Thanks Nick. They offer excellent service. I highly recommend this establishment. read more
