I found a coupon online for a full synthetic oil change for $43. Not only does this save me time, but it's only about $8 more than if I were to do it myself and I also get an inspection to see how my car is maintaining. I called day of and Travis was super helpful and got me in right away. Typically, you would have to schedule but appreciate their flexibility. They were not pushy with the additional items they recommended fixing and was able to prepay for 5 future oil changes for around $200. What a great deal! When I got in my car, they had vacuumed the front seat and placed a thank you card by the steering wheel. The little things are what count in customer service and they did a great job and will definitely be referring people their way. They have a restroom, snacks and beverages along with a huge parking lot. I also heard they offer loaner cars if you need one. read more

Don't take your car in unless you know what the issue is. They can fix a problem, but are terrible for things like a tune up. I took my car in once to correct an issue from a previous mechanic. They fixed it, no problem. But when I took my car in again for a tune up, their service left much to be desired. At the moment of paying the technician told me he just changed the spark plugs. I asked about changing the oil and checking the fluids and he said he didn't do that. He looked at me like I was crazy to assume what those services are included in a tune up. read more

Took my vehicle into this shop and they quoted me a number north of 9000 for repairs that could be completed for a 3rd of the price at other shops. Tried to double dip on labor, a 10 hour job they claimed would take 20. They have slick talking sales people working their desk that wear head pieces and fool people into expensive, unnecessary repair by promoting a warranty. Gross business! STAY AWAY! read more

Terrible business HIGHLY RECOMMEND GO ANYWHERE ELSE they will keep your car coming back and charge you $1,200-$3,000 each time

i trusted them the fist time they fixed my car air conditioner it was not done well the whole Freon blow away but due to short winter I didn't have time to believe it was a scam because since then I must have rrefill my ac Freon for more than usual then I finally came back to them since there was warranty they lied that it was not the same issues now they collected my money to fix it twice now and yet in 2 weeks it was broken no air conditioning again now they claim it was a difference issues again ..now I have paid and spent $3000 they are not trust worthy they took advantage of me and my God will judge them and they will have to refund me back my money it was a disastrous experience in this summer I m suffering of heat car going forward they should not be trusted ever read more

MOM resolved repair at different place for 60 percent less, BUYER beware @ RICKS ON 36. read more

I was extremely overdue on an oil change and called Rick's looking for some help. Megan was SO helpful in setting me up with an appointment, asking the right questions, and not making me feel uncomfortable for not knowing all of the right answers. I was able to get an appointment the day of, and they got me in and out in no time! Upon entering the shop, Mars (the owner) and Megan were both at the front desk, and greeted me like I was a regular rather than a first-time guest. They're so incredibly nice and friendly, and I felt good knowing my car was in good hands. They have a little waiting area with complimentary snacks, classic Christmas movies playing in the TV, and great conversation if you stick around while your car is getting fixed up. The oil change itself was insanely affordable despite requiring a special filter and synthetic oil in my vehicle, and they even checked out my air filters and such while changing the oil out. Megan helped me order new air filters because they didn't have them in stock, and set up an appointment for the next day to get them switched out. Doing business with Rick's 36 was a phenomenal experience all around and they've definitely found themselves a new regular! read more

They lost a 10 mill in one of the tires they mounted for me. Techs were telling the customer service desk to upsell me in from of me!!

This place, I don't recommend this place they prey on women and old ladies. Customer service is a joke. They charged $800.00 for a starter she didn't need+ the towing charge, took the vehicle to another mechanic $90 dollar part and she was on her way, the diagnostic technician is a moron but gets paid well, maybe they can change oil but wouldn't be to sure! read more

I brought my motor home in for brakes because they were the only place in the twin cities area that were willing to do it. We had a brake problem in Des Moines while on a trip to New Mexico. Had to have a mobile place repair it. The problem was a defective part. When I got back I called Rick's about it. They were supper nice and said if I sent them the bill they would take care of it. It was over $600 and they paid the full amount. They are not only the only place in the metro area that will service a motor home but they 100% stand behind their work. read more

Highly recommend taking your car anywhere else. Brought our Honda Pilot in to have them look at the check engine light. Spent $950 to chemically clean the engine/tune up, per their diagnosis. Engine light went back on less than 100 miles later for the exact same codes. Bought a Tucson and brought it to them for a FULL $150 inspection. They said It needed new brakes and tires, they recommended changing all fluids as well for $3800 total. Brought it back 2 days after the service because it was pulling very hard right, they tried to do alignment but told me they would have to drill into or replace the struts, still charged me for alignment. We brought it back in for a slight exhaust leak 2 weeks later, they then told me my upper/lower ball joints were shot and that's why it's pulling right, and that the car needed a new timing belt/full assembly for another $3800... how did they miss all that in a full car inspection? ONLY 20 miles after they replaced my exhaust Y pipe, the engine light went on for the o2 sensors that were faulty in the EXACT place they just serviced, with no light on prior to their work. Brought it back in and they want over $500 for sensors with labor.. I just did my own sensors in 1 hour for $50/each, but their "professional" mechanics needed 1.3 hours? They offered us a "discount" by not charging for the o2 sensor inspection fee, even though they have had our car more than we have the last few weeks..how many times do we have to pay for inspection fees? Sad to say but they give good local mechanic shops a horrible rep, and I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere along with spreading the word locally. Thanks for those who took the time to read this, wish you all better quality than what Rick's provides. read more

I Don't even know where to begin simply put this is the worst business iv ever done business with. Do not go here they do not have the customers best interest in mind they do half ass work and the prices are more then the dealership. read more

I took my car there for an oil change. Before long, I was signing a credit card to pay for a $391 charge for a ball joint and alignment. Labor was over 250! I really wish I had read the reviews but I blame myself for not calling around to check other prices first. It was just messed up to freak me out about the tire falling off. read more

We are new to Stillwater and I came in just for an oil change, after reading some very positive reviews. I received top of the line service from start to finish, plus a FULL free vehicle inspection report. Not to mention a token of excellent customer service: a thank you note inside my car left by the person who serviced it. There is no doubt that we will be returning for our future car servicing needs, and that I will be referring anyone I know to Rick's 36. read more

I have been a long time customer of Rick's under both the original owner and the current owner. Lately I've been doing most of my own work so I haven't used them for a time. Recently I needed an alignment and checked out local options for this service. I was really surprised to see the poor reviews for Ricks. Because of my prior good experience I decided to give them a try. I was able to get a convenient appointment and they completed the work as promised. The price seemed fair (about $80) for my AWD Dodge Magnum. As far as I can tell the work was good and a former slight pull to the left was gone. They did suggest I keep an eye on the struts (due to the car's mileage) but weren't at all pushy about it. This is about all I expect in a repair shop. read more

These are the type of mechanics that give mechanics a bad name. I went to Rick's because a previous garage, which had changed the oil on our RV said our tires were showing some dry rot and we might what them replaced. They only had 35,000 miles, so I wanted a second opinion. Rick's was recommended. I called and made an appointment to have my tires evaluated and replaced as needed. When I arrived, they told me there was a $120 charge for this. I was not told when I made the appointment. If I had been told, I would not have had them do it, but since I was already there; I decided to let it go. They contacted me the next day and said the tires were fine, but had found $1,900 worth of other maintenance items that they recommended. Most would have been found by the first business if they really existed. I declined. When I went to pick up my RV the charge was not $120 but $122 plus $10.38 for "shop charges". read more

I used to love taking my car to Ricks. They are personable and run a clean, well-ordered garage. However, their prices have just gotten too steep for me. After I had them replace an intake manifold gasket, I found out that they charged considerably more than what the dealership charged for the same repair. I'm lucky that my son is a motor head and now does many of my repairs for me. When he can't do it, I'm back to Maplewood Toyota. read more

There was a time when Rick's had the reputation of being honest, but that time is over. They overcharge for labor like crazy, tried to get me to pay $600 for new spark plugs. They tried to charge 3-4 hours for labor. Took to another shop for $200. read more

Buyer beware! The $19.95 oil change coupon is a marketing tactic to get you in -- and then have them tell you the scads of things wrong with your car. Shop around. I thought these guys were nice and looking out for my best interests as a loyal and frequent customer. Turned out they were just looking out for number one. If you don't want to have to BUYER BEWARE!, then don't go here. read more

I would have rated this less than 0 stars. They are crooks; even worse, they are idiots. suggested that the car would could be driven for another day while the "part could get there by the next day", then when asked "is that safe?" they answered maybe not... WTF?! Go to hell Evan. NEVER do business with these people because you might have a brain aneurysm due to the level of disregard for any acceptable business practice and mostly for their piss poor justification of said practice. Seriously go f*** yourself Evan and the whole model at Richard's Thirty-six. This is why school is important people. read more

Is it possible to give less than one star? The diagnosed my car in two minutes and claimed it was the rack and pinion steering. After a day in the shop and $800, the problem remained exactly the same. They even admitted they made a mistake but did not refund the money. I find them to be borderline fraudulent and if you read all Google and Yelp review you will see it is consistent as there are many complaints. We all make mistakes but a reputable business will make it right and not steal from you. read more

I was a loyal customer to Rick's for almost 3 years!! Last week I took my handicap assessable van in what was having problems with the transmission. They quoted me a "new"transmission would cost $5663 or a used one for $3823 , . I call Hudson Chrysler they told me a "new"transmission was $3000 plus $800 labor ! . I went out & paid my diagnosistic charge of $92 that that afternoon, & when I told them that I was going to go Chrysler because they can do it cheaper, all of sudden they were able to call a different parts distributor & they can get the transmission for 3000 too & they will charge 700 for labor & there is $50 coupon out there! & I just paid 92$ so the total will be $3600 !!! I currently have 2 vehicles that Rick's 36 help me maintain. One 2006 and one 2014. I've always felt that the staff at Rick's is clear about what needs to happen with each vehicle to keep my investments in the best shape. Some might experience this as trying to drum up business. I see it as information for me about my investments. At times I've felt overwhelmed, but I've never felt pressured to complete any of their recommendations. When I've had questions , they are always answered. Sometimes the guys will even bring me back into the shop to get a visual explanation of the problem. There have been times I've chosen to do the work and other times I've chosen not to have the recommended work done. Either way is just fine with Rick's. I have been a single mother now , for 20 years , and I have been bringing my vehicles to Rick's since around 2002. I always have confidence that my best interests are being looked after. I take responsibility for my understanding of my vehicles and I'm grateful to have Ricks in my corner to help me do this. I would recommend Rick's knowledge and experience to anyone who asks. read more

Brought my car in to Rick's 36 in Oct 2017 (1+ year ago). Was told I needed approx. $6,000 worth of work, one item being a new timing belt for the cost of $2,067. Decided not to have any of the work done. This year (2018) in November, I brought my car to Central Automotive in Stillwater and asked them to check my timing belt. They said I still had another 20,000 - 30,000 miles before it needed replacement and their cost was $700-800! Rick's totally tried to rip me off! read more

Ricks 36 is clean and the staff is very personable. But. I won't go back. They changed my oil and then informed me that I had a loose tie rod so"don't drive much...you need a tune up" and numerous other things that I'm thankful they told me about. However, I had a tune up a month ago by a good friend who is a mechanic and that same mechanic just put on new brakes and said the tie rod just needed some grease. In other words, ricks 36 was trying to scare me into spending $300 to fix a tie rod that doesn't need fixing and a tune up that didn't need it. Now, if I would have said "go ahead and fix it all" would they have noticed the plugs were new when they removed the manifold, or say they replaced them and charge me? I'll never know because I feel they tried to scam me. read more

Very dishonest! My mother took her two year old vehicle in for an oil change and was conned into a new battery, engine flush, and a few other very unnecessary expensive items. She spent well over $300.00! Took advantage of an elder person. read more

Ricks was once a reputable shop, under previous owners, but not anymore. Now they lure unsuspecting customers in with cheap oil change deals and then charge them dearly for unnecessary auto repairs. Two independent friends of mine spoke with a mechanic formerly employed at Ricks and he confirmed that this is their MO. I have been burned by these guys myself. One of my friends recently went to Ricks for an oil change and was told he needed all new shocks. After getting a second opinion from a reputable mechanic he discovered his shocks were in perfectly good condition. These guys are a menace to our community. read more

Highly dissatisfied. Charged me close to $1200 for front calipers and brakes. Told me I needed a handful more repairs need to be done for about the same price (brake line, back calipers/brakes, tie rods, and ball bearings all needed to be replaced).Went to a different mechanic (who did the exact same repairs on the back, for $300), and was told they severly overcharged me (by about $800), and lied about all the other things that needed to be "repaired". Also charged labor for putting brakes on calipers, when they are sold as one piece, are you kidding me? Very predatory, probably due to their location (people in the area have lots of money). Thanks for taking advantage of me, now I'm in a financial fiasco and out around $800. Would NOT recommend to anyone, unless you enjoy paying four times what something actually costs. Scam artists, and I demand a refund, or I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Completely incompetent, dishonest, shoddy work. I dropped my 09 H3 Hummer off here because it was the closest place to my hotel. They told me my transmission needed to be replaced, then began the nightmare of being upsold every hour. I agreed to replace the transmission, then the radiator, then more and more work started to be suggested. They had my truck for an entire week and when I drove away I realized my 4x4 was no longer working. I immediately turned around and went back to the shop and confronted the manager, long story short, I took my truck to a place in my hometown I trust and wasn't surprised to discover that the work done by Ricks 36 auto was a disaster, my local shop found missing bolts, screws, etc and also found the "new" transmission was already spewing fluid everywhere. My 4x4 wasn't working because it had been unplugged, we are at a loss as to why other than Ricks was planning on trying to get me to replace a "broken" 4x4 but didn't once I started fighting back and questioning their ever evolving story. I'm already in contact with my lawyer... read more
