An absolute nightmare of a transaction from beginning to end. There are so many other furniture…read morerestoration companies to choose from. This place should close immediately. I asked for an estimate for 2 leather couch cushions. James asked for pictures and measurements. He quoted me a price. He quoted me over triple the original price once I bought the leather and brought them in. I was told turn around would be 3 weeks. And verbally promised they would try to get them done sooner. 14 weeks, several empty promises, the gamut of excuses, and many ignored phone calls later, I finally received my cushions. The corners are lopsided, the cushions are uneven, and I was gaslit to believe "Thats how they originally were". I don't think so Karl. I was also threatened with "I have 6 guys here who will rip those cushions out of your car" when I demanded a discount for their less-than-superior service. The hostility proved their guilt. The interior of the business is filthy and unfit for any nonworker to enter. It will be interesting to see what mold spores and bugs my cushions will release after being held hostage in their "warehouse" for over a quarter of a year.

Hector's is like family!…read more Although I am sorry to learn of the passing of "Hector Senior", I am pleased to learn that Hector's family continues to provide extraordinary service, and Hector's Legacy lives on! Thirty years ago, Hector, Sr., came to our rescue after our teen-aged daughter caused a small kitchen fire to do tremendous "soot damage" to our newly acquired, custom-made, Merchandise Mart, Directional Furniture! The Claims Adjuster with the insurance company, profiling my wife and me spontaneously directed us to order new furniture. Once the Claims Adjuster learned of the cost, he suggested we downgrade and accept second best. Hector came to our rescue. Hector made the custom-made furniture better than custom-made. That furniture has been modernized by Hector three times with impeccable results. We are in the process of redesigning our dining room and Hector is the answer. Our snooty, billionaire neighbor says the finished result is a "Ten Plus"! My wife and I agree! Moreover, the experience and the underlying value are more than cost-justified. I have "before", "after", and "way after" pictures, to share too! After all of these years, Hector and Hector, Jr., are still the best! ~LCIII Hinsdale, Illinois

I wrote a review for their older OP location a couple years ago when they reupholstered an old easy…read morechair my mom gave me. That project went really well. I've had a mid century vinyl lobby chair since the late 90s that had a wrecked seat. Paul's reupholstered this chair for me recently as well and I'm happy with the results. They suggested eliminating the taffeting in the seat and retaining it only on the back to help prevent the old issue of the seat material coming apart over time and that was the right choice. I liked that look but it looks great without it too and will be more durable with regular use. The workmanship is high quality and they redid all the piping and everything just like it was. I picked out a red vinyl to match the rest of the den furniture and I'm happy with that too. Paul's also was like $300 cheaper than the comparative quote I got from another place here in town. They have free pickup and dropoff too. I'll continue using Paul's for any future reupholstering projects.

From there it is radio silence until I reach back out. He had an odd story about his phone being stolen to account for the lack of communication, then dropped the chair off outside of our agreed upon meeting window. We had agreed on a price and at no point was it indicated he would need to charge more, but at drop off he was asking for 20% more than we had agreed. When I challenged this I was met with indignant responses like "I charge $15 to drop it off" (not disclosed) and "I've been giving deals to people all day, I can't do this for free!" I had no expectation he would, but I also expect to be notified when we get out of scope on price. This is another lesson to reinforce that if someone has to tell you how fair they are they might not be.

We were sincerely grateful to Don for helping with 3 different home improvements. First, he was…read moreable to do a great job with an expert eye for the end result, and with top-of-the-line excellent tools and vacuum device to resurface the bay window in our living room. (Over the years, it became damaged with condensation and dog nail scratches.) He sanded with a dustless tool system to get to bare wood (amazingly, he did not need to tape and drape). Then he applied a perfect stain and layers of varnish. The result is a beautifully restored bay window seat. (Of note: We also contracted with a custom window professional to make a tempered glass top so now the window seat in our living room is also dog proof too!). Because he is so accomplished at furniture restoration, he also was able to restore a wrist-rest on our hardwood desk that has a pull out keyboard drawer. The varnish had become worn, discolored, and damaged with years of use. The result is a "looks like new" pull out keyboard drawer/wrist-rest. Third, because he is so knowledgeable and versatile, our 60-year-old home outdoor well-warn shutters needed a better look and refinishing. However, after we researched wood options, a more ideal approach was found to maximize the look of our face brick and contextualize the architecture of our home Subsequently, he expertly, willingly, and helpfully installed an alternate wrought iron exterior shutters that are PERFECT! Don is a delight to work with. We are so grateful for his flexibility, skills, and "can-do" approach to 3 different well-overdue restorations to our home.
