he dozen oysters 3 ways arrive and look lovely, you can choose from 5 ways including natural, Kilpatrick, Mornay, Japanese and Tempura, our Japanese panko crumbed with wasabi and soy are a hit! Super crunchy jacket and creamy happy oyster inside. The Kilpatrick were recommended but didn't do so much for me, the natural are all good! The linguini looks fabulous and my friend is happily tucking in as we admire the chowder and mussel bowls.... read more at my blog

There are so many things to love about this place! Starting with the casual ambiance, there are all sorts of people here, from the suits and tailored dresses to jeans, kids and everything in between. It's a friendly, neighbourhood spot that hits the mark where it counts. One side boasts a retail shop for fresh seafood to take away, along with some seafood essentials for the kitchen. There is also catering available, so you can truly have an authentic experience for your next event. What I came here for was a delicious meal of only the freshest and best seafood. That was exactly what I had. The menu was pretty big, so trying to decide what to get is really your only concern. My mate and I went for an oyster appetiser followed by a seafood platter. We wanted to sample everything, so got all 4 types of the hot oysters. My personal favourites were the baked kewpie mayo with soy sauce and seaweed flakes and the mornay, béchamel cheese crusted. These went down oh-so-quickly. All the flavours combined really nicely together. For the seafood platter, you get a bit of everything, literally! Two types of sautéed fish, fried calamari, grilled octopus, large prawns and scallops scampi, mussels in a slurp-worthy tomato broth, fresh oysters on the half shell, smoked trout on bread and moreton bay bugs. It was my first time trying these and they were great with a creamy sauce and fish eggs. The servers were good about checking in on us during the meal. It was hard to get our takeaway boxes and cheque when it was time to go, as they were super busy. All things considered, this is a lovely spot with excellent food and I can't wait to come back and try something new. Just as soon as I wake from my current food coma...

    epic two tiered seafood platter.

Do not ponce about with the sushi. Don't be safe and just get fish and chips. When you come to this establishment, a seafood wholesaler who saw a niche and expanded into a restaurant/fishmonger, don't skimp, and go straight for the epic seafood platter. At $99, it's not a cheap dinner, but you will not for a moment question the value for money. Two tiers high, with fish, crab, oysters, calamari, prawns, moreton bay bugs AND mussels (phew), it's colossal and will satisfy any real seafood craving. The place doesnt have a heck of a lot of atmosphere - a stark, minimalist clean space with limited tables, but it's really about the food they're serving.

Richmond Oysters, a venerable Melbourne institution serving fresh caught island seafood with a dash of French condescension (not the snooty and rude kind, but rather the funny and endearing kind-- think Lemire from Disney's B&B). Despite a swell of diners, as expected on a Saturday night, the seafood remained fresh, and where appropriate, cold. The service from our waiter and another server?, who I assume was a backup, was exceptional-- my water and wine glasses were never empty. And the company, a friend and our funny waiter, was an absolute joy. It was a night of laughter, smiles, amazing food, and good wine. I'm not likely to forget it. The restaurant had 3 oyster varieties which change daily based on the market selection. The Sydney Bay oysters were my personal favorite; small but still firm with a sweet and briny taste. We also ordered a seafood platter ($125) which can easily be shared with 2-3 persons, although the other diners around must have just come from a diet camp because while my dining partner and I struggled to get through the platter after a dozen oysters, the other diners were ordering this platter PLUS entrees! I have no idea what blackhole they were able to shovel it into, but I need to buy one. The platter is a good value for the money and comes with: 3 cooked fish varieties, 6 oysters (I didn't care for the pacifics so they substituted with one I liked which was really appreciated and goes to the care this restaurant had for its guests), 12 steamed mussels in a wine-marinara sauce, fried calamari, grilled (nice char) baby octopus, crab cakes, crabs with a creme fresch sauce and caviar, and fried soft shell crab. This is served on a giant towering series of platters so your whole dining party can easily partake. The cocktails are delicate. The wine selections complex, but thoughtful with something for every palate-- and again the company. All evenings out should be so fun!

As I walked inside, I was taken at how small and quaint this place was. The hostess said, "You must be Cosmo." I laughed and said yes- I must've been the only one to make a reservation that night! There was a small bar as I walked in, and I was guided to the dining room, where there were a few other diners sitting, about half full. I was shown to my table and given a menu. She handed me a menu, and asked if I wanted water, to which I said yes, tap was fine. She left me as I perused the menu, and she quickly returned with water and pointed out the board behind me, which had all the fresh fish and specials of the day. I wanted Lobster, and happily, I saw it on the board. I asked which of the prawn starters was better, and she offered a taste of both! I then ordered a lobster. I ordered green beans on the side. I also ordered a cold beer, which she brought immediately. I was brought a plate of 2 prawns which were both divine, and then another plate with another 2 prawns, and they were divine as well. I am glad I was given the option. And then my main course came, beautifully prepared, large chunks of lobster in the shell. The Green Beans were beautiful, and I must say, some of the best I have ever had! Cooked perfectly, and the almonds were delicious. The lobster was to die for- tender and flavorful, cooked perfectly. I savored each bite. I ordered a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc with my lobster, and then had a cheese plate to finish. I sat there finishing my wine and enjoying the cheese. What a great dinner! I paid my bill, and all the staff thanked me, and I left, yearning to come back one day. For now, it will be a wonderful memory...

Serving up an ever changing menu of seasonal tasty plates and a wine list that makes me excited to be alive, Marion is the kind of place I wish was my local. Fitzroy is fast becoming THE wine bar suburb of Melbourne with Bar Clarine, Bar Liberty, Hell of the North and the ever lovable and reliable Enoteca all serving up terrific wine by the glass and bottle along with solid food offerings. If you wanted to you could jump around multiple venues in a night having a glass and a bite at each, a kind of progressive dinner. But back to Marion... it's lovely. The food and wine is top notch but what I really want to tell you about is the service. It's friendly, knowledgable and efficient. Each guest is made to feel special but not fawned over and the pace of the experience is perfectly suited to what you're in the mood for. Up for some wine nerd chat? You've got it! Want to be left alone so you can stare in to your eyes of your beloved? No worries! Want to be told what to order and drink so you can be delighted and surprised? Easy. Waiters who can read what you need, and give it to you, are as rare as hens teeth, but A-Mac attracts some of the best staff in this city and it's always a pleasure to dine in any of his establishments because of this. 5 stars.

I jumped onto the website and was enthralled by the variety of paella on the menu. Rabbit, squid ink, seafood. ... Plus happy hour from 5-7pm I was sold. I quickly made a booking for a Friday evening for two. I arrived there around 6.30 and was offered seating straightaway by the host. There is outdoor seating as well and with it being a beautiful warm day in march, we decided to sit outside. We were told to wait five minutes at the bar while we waited for tables to be cleared. We ordered pisco sours for 10 bucks each and were quickly then ushered to our seats. The outdoor tables are slightly bigger than the indoor ones and there is a slight canopy like covering. It's quite beautiful. Our pisco sours were delicious. We ordered the seafood paella which is 25 per person and two people must get it. Which I think is very pricey. But oh well. We also got the tuna salad. The tuna salad was just some canned tuna with spinach leaves. One quartered tomato, one egg and some cucumber. Nothing special. The seafood paella arrived in a large paella pan with four prawns, some calamari, two mussels, two clams and that was it. Quite disappointing in terms of amount of seafood. The rice was quite chewy, stuck to the base of the pan and tasted quite burnt and dry. Very disappointing. Very overpriced for what we got. Service is great. Venue is great. Drinks are great. Perhaps better for drinks and small bites I think.
