I love the concept of a pub (or any business for that matter) being named after a poet or writer. The Robert Burns Hotel's nomenclature, you can only assume, is derived from 'The Ploughman Poet', Scotland's Son Robbie Burns. As Burns wrote the new year's eve classic 'Auld Lang Syne', this excites me. It's not as exciting once inside, unfortunately, but it does hold on to this kind of old timey charm and at least isn't run but a pack of insolent wankers that are more concerned with their asymmetrical hair-styles and private conversations than the needs of their patrons. No, The Robert Burns is a pretty friendly kind of place on the verge of Fitzroy sliding into Collingwood. They've taken on this Spanish theme, which I never quite got, and do a tapas menu complete with sangria and watery Spanish beers. They miss the mark in authenticity somewhat, but I give 'em full marks for trying.

Don't let the name of this bar fool you because it is not Scottish, it is actually Spanish. That actually really surprised me when I discovered this because I always though that it was just another of your trendy inner-city pubs. Mind you, it is a bit more classier than your normal pub, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is a bad place. I actally quite like it, namely because of the really friendly and helpful staff. Well, most of them because there was one time that I came in and it took the bartender ages to actually get around to serving me (and it wasn't as if I was dressed badly, because if I was I would have probably been shown the door). Despite that, it is still a cool place to have a couple of drinks, or even satisfy your craving for Spanish food.

The experience was good but with no real wow factor. Best thing might have been the slice of life number 86 tram to get there. What a great trip. The hotel setting doesn't do much for me. It's 70/80s but without retro lift. The croquettes were great but the seafood paella average at best. The wine list we were presented with but clipped but sufficient for purpose. Best thing here was our server. From the Sunshine Coast but with an accent that we couldn't pick. I liked the night but there are better options around.

From the moment you walk in, there's a buzz that makes the place feel alive without being overwhelming. It strikes a great balance between upscale and relaxed, making it perfect for a date night or a fun evening out. The warm lighting and eclectic design add to the charm and make you want to linger. Service was friendly, attentive, and well-paced throughout the night. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu, checked in on us at the right moments, and made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. Every dish we ordered was excellent -- not a single miss. We started with the Cauliflower & Mozzarella Croquettes, which were crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy inside. The Grilled King Prawns were flavorful and cooked just right, while the Kingfish Ceviche was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The Stracciatella & Heirloom Tomatoes was simple yet outstanding, letting the quality of the ingredients shine. For mains, the Duck Breast was cooked perfectly and full of rich flavor, and the Lamb Backstrap was tender and well-seasoned. The Pecorino & Ricotta Ravioli was comforting and delicate, while the Seafood Linguine stood out with generous portions of seafood and a beautifully balanced sauce. The Honey Glaze Carrots were the perfect side -- sweet, savory, and executed flawlessly. Overall, State of Grace delivers on every level -- ambience, service, and food. An exceptional spot that lives up to the hype, and one we'd absolutely return to on our next visit to Melbourne.

It's the decor from extravagant chandeliers to deer heads with pearl necklaces; it's beautifully eclectic. I had an old fashion and it had the right mix of orange and bitters. Even the ordering is eclectic as you order electronically (QR) pasted to a library book. This place is worth a visit.

It's one of our 'footy pubs' that me and my mates frequent before and after games - a 10 min walk to the MCG seemingly scaring off the bogan throngs that must filter in places closer to the ground. Staff is always friendly and welcoming, it's vibrant without being too busy, and the pub grub has never let me down yet. Ideally they would add a few more taps and beer variety, or at least rotate more frequently to mix things up, but it's a small complaint. Yet to partake in a trivia night yet but one started up around us recently and it looked like good fun that we'll likely come back to try. Note: I have extreme bias as have been lucky enough to celebrate several of my team's Grand Final victories here, so The Prince Pat will always have a special place in my heart for that alone!

And this place left me with high expectations for any other one that I will come across. Only open on Fridays and Wednesday's, I came here for one of their free brewery tours (6:30pm). Did I mention that they are free? Winning! We arrived early, and found a table. I knew exactly what I was coming here for; beer and pizza; such a beautiful combination. Taking advice from the bar-man, we ordered the pizza that had ham on it. Now, because the tour was going to be starting soon, we realized that we wouldn't have had enough time to down our drinks and our pizza. The staff were so kind, and delayed putting our pizza into the oven until we finished our tour. The tour was great! Very informative, you get to learn about their process, and how they go about beer the "goat way". The ham on the pizza was just a tiny bit too salty for my liking, but I won't hold that against them. I'll just self note it to myself to try something different the next time. This place got crowded as the night progressed. We saw some bicyclists come in, and even saw some families here enjoying their pizza. Side note: Their Steam Ale- it's organic!

Sure, it does seem to be quite popular, and there have been times that the place has been absolutely packed, and I don't actually mind it all that much, however the atmosphere, and the fact that there are better places in the vicinity mean that I usually give this place a miss.
