Melbourne's top restaurant Vue De Monde. Great food ruined by obtrusively loud undifferentiated crap pop music on a cheap sound system. Hard to converse and hard to hear waiters. Even harder to believe that these idiots think that running a local radio loudly improves the food. Not coming back. Since I have posted this have talked to a few other fibres who agree with me. IF YOU ARE HARD OF HEARING OR HATE NOISE AVOID THIS PLACE!

Liquid nitrogen to purée fresh native flowers to put with berry ice cream

I booked the private function room and degustation menu with paired premium wines. This is not a meal for the money conscious, but it was worth every cent. I've had many degustation menus, even some in multiple Michelin Star restaurants; this was well up there with them. It was spectacular. The highlight of the meal ,even the next day, was the mud crab sausage biroche. Hard to explain the flavours that were experienced. If you have a desire for good food, wine and a view to die for...you MUST do this experience. I will be taking my girlfriend back here whenever in Melbourne. It's sooo good. I just can't describe how good it was!!

As soon as you walk up to reception on the ground floor of Rialto building, you know you are in for a treat. The host escorts you to one of several fancy lifts, as you walk over you notice a few people waiting in the lobby area. I assumed this was the 'waiting area' for the Lui bar. Walking out of 55th floor, you are greeted by a host and they ask you to take a seat in the Lui bar. Our 'wait' lasted for mere 5 minutes and as soon as he magically opened the door to the wall to wall wine cellar/room/walkway towards the restaurant, my jaw dropped. This was of course, the wine lover's paradise. What else can I say about this place, Service is 5 star all the way. From a spare seat for my bag ( ha!) to individual chef's serving out and explaining their dish to you ( commitment!). Food- before ordering you are treated to complimentary appetizers ( 4 dishes ) All dietary requirement is catered for and non meat eaters still gets amazing treats. We had the 7 course degustation, not counting the palate cleanser which in this occasion was a frozen fresh flowers ( micro herb?) with cucumber sorbet ( complete with liquid nitrogen and self crushing of the herbs). My only complain ( wha???) is that both desserts were chocolate based - now who EVER complain about chocolates?? not me, but I did feel that I wish one of the dessert dish was different - maybe fruity or lighter dessert. Upon leaving, we were treated with a bag of "For the morning after"- consisting of a Brioche loaf, honey from their garden in Heidi - Bulleen, cookies, granolas, and tea. I needed a whole week to come back down to earth after such treats. Tip: If you are not a big wine drinker, Vue De Monde have a specialist tea somelier named Charlie. He will match tea to your meals or other non alcoholic drinks. His Chai tea is made himself and served with a ball of chai ice cream that melts in your tea - affogatto style, and his signature tea is heavenly - wish i can remember what it's called :( If you have the chance to visit Vue De Monde, I recommend you take it up quickly ;)

My friend who lives in Melbourne arranged for us to have a very special lunch here. We opted for the chef experience with wine tastings. Everything was amazing! Some of the best food I have ever had. Anywhere. This would be a 3-star Michelin meal in the USA! I will post a few photos because each dish was a work of art. As beautiful as it was delicious. And our Somm Matt chose some of the best wines to go with our food courses. I was thrilled with each and every choice! Enjoy it here ... it is worth every minute! (We were here for 6 hours ... yay!) It was a true highlight to my trip to Melbourne!

What a magical "vue" from the 55th floor! Attended a beautiful intimate wedding reception celebrated at the top of the Rialto and felt very lucky to make the guest list as I know the degustation menu ranges from $200-$250 per person. Highlights: - Breathtaking terrace overlooking Melbourne. - Dessert buffet, I tried one of everything. - Professional staff polite and ready to top you up. Fancy establishment that runs like a well oiled machine.

A longtime supporter of VDM it has been interesting to observe the transition from Carlton to Little Collins and now to the Rialto, both in terms of the style of decor/venue and of the cuisine. Whilst I still miss the original teacup of Tomato Consomme (Carlton days) the latest cucumber sorbet palate cleanser is just divine. The playfulness enjoyed in the early days has been carried forward with the underlying Australiana theme. The food and service always exemplary, and those views.... well. VDM is a 'must experience'... at least once.

emu chips . eggplant with wattle seed pollen

Definitely file under "an experience"!. Traveling solo, dining solo enabled me to score a reservation via waitlist. This resto was fully booked on a Sunday night. For food restrictions , fully disclose before attending as it will be accommodated. I advised I could not eat pork but forgot about the no alcohol...which led me to skipping a fun part of the meal. Although not all the dishes in the chef's degustation were to my liking, the 4.5 (fat fingers) takes into account service, atmosphere, mindfulness, seasonality, locality of sourcing and presentation. Important: be aware that the degustation itself is reasonable. What made it crazy exxy was to pair with non alco mocktails was $80, wine pairing $250, a latte sets you back $10, water $10, i forget how much the cheese selection cost (divine) but you get the idea. It can easily set you back$500 each. Which probably explains why I was the only solo diner. It was mostly couples or groups of people. Food wise: experimental, imaginative , clever, cheeky and mostly fun. I laughed often at the delightful ways the food was presented and loved the explanations. Started off with emu chips and eggplant dip sprinkled with wattle pollen. Thinly sliced emu meat about 1mm dried in the sun that crunched and soaked up the dip. The pollen was a great touch. Lamb with peas followed. Sadly the salt just destroyed the lamb taste for me. This will recur throughout the meal. My server was distressed but I explained that I generally do not have added salt and have super sensitive taste and smell. All the dishes and drinks smelt amazing FYI. Heightened my pleasure considerably just like a scrumptious smelling bloke. This was followed by asparagus and oyster sauce. Loved it. Paired with fresh oyster that had asparagus flakes sprinkled on top. No added salt but just the natural fresh briny taste. The fish dish was left unfinished. The saltiness just killed me. My absolute fav in that I could eat ten of these was the crab meat in kohlrabi decorated with marigold leaves. God, the taste!!!. Paired with small brioche bun, crab sausage on a barbie and condiments. Such fun. I love you chef. Finished the seafood offerings with scallops. Fresh as and such a sweet clean taste in a parsley sauce. I could go on about the meats....delicious wagyu ( not as good as Kobe or even Okinawan but good), kangaroo etc but it was done well and meat is hard to muck up. A flaming tray came to the table so that marshmallows containing liquered chocolate could be roasted. Was so sad I could not eat these. Chef killed it with his double chocolate souffle though. So light, good quality chocolate. But there's more!. The aforementioned cheese tray, with a mix of European and local cheeses. Finally , a peach sorbet and jelly cube together with the best lamington I have ever tasted. Seriously folks, I will definitely be back to try the Chef's degustation again. It changes seasonally

A modern slice of funky and intriguingly well blended foods. This place is pricey but amazing!!! Every course has a well thought out craftsmanship that takes your taste buds from ground level to the moon at the speed of sound. The chef even found a way to make a hotdog elegant! If you ever have the chance to dine here, do it!!!

Elegance meets Australian Outback (complete with faux firefly lighting)

New Heights at Vue de Monde in Melbourne, Australia Vue De Monde in Melbourne, Australia takes fine dining to new heights, literally and figuratively. This restaurant is located on the 55th floor of the city's iconic Rialto Tower. Rarely do restaurants become successful in the three most important areas: good service, quality food and memorable ambiance. Vue de Monde easily gets a perfect "10" in all three categories. Unsurpassed Service From the minute I stepped into their private elevator, I received the royal treatment. Please bear in mind that this particular evening, I chose to dine by myself. Most restaurants would simply render me invisible because of that, but not Vue de Monde. Simply the Best Food in the World As an international traveler and fine diner, I have had the good fortune and pleasure of dining in some of the world's best restaurants. However, when I ate at Vue de Monde, I felt as though the restaurants I have visited in the past were merely "appetizers." Vue de Monde is the main dish when it comes to fine dining. The strategic combination of flavors, textures and aromas make the food irresistible! In addition, the head chef cleverly creates opportunities for diner participation. For example, I was served a palate cleanser where I was asked to use a mortar and pestle to grind wildflowers that were soaked in liquid nitrogen. The mixture was combined with a citrus sorbet. The result was a flavor and an experience that was out-of-this-world. I enjoyed the diner participation aspect because I wasn't asked to do too much--yet I felt a connection between the head chef and me. I like that because it connects me with the food. The "Australia Outback" ambiance Whether it's the kangaroo fur-covered chairs, the faux firefly lighting, or the utilitarian pebble assortment on each table--the Australian outback had a strong presence in the restaurant. Without creativity and attention to detail, recreating an outback experience on the 55th floor of the Rialto could have been disastrously garish. Instead, there is a subtle blend of elegance and pure Australiana. I would fly to Melbourne just to dine at Vue de Monde again and again.

No one informed us about any policy. We paid for the bottle with 5% service charge which I do not think they deserved. We had a sudden work call at 11.30pm and grabbed the bottle to go, only for the staff to chase us to the front of the bar to inform us that they do not have a takeaway license. For christ sake, we already had bought the bottle!! Though it's alright, we respect policy. They highlighted that they needed to keep the bottle in the establishment. We asked if we could come back and finish it. They said they would keep our bottle. We rushed back to our hotel (Marriott- 200m away for the call). When we returned at 11.58pm, they had already thrown our bottle away. Unbelievable! They were quick to receive our money but equally quick to throw our experience out the window. No doubt, we returned almost at closing times but throwing our wine before closing time - if you wanna go by the book, that is still not your closing time. When we raised our grievances to the staff, she said she told us about closing time at 12 midnight. However, we emphasised that she should have let us know about the takeaway policy and license. Had we known, we would not have ordered a bottle. She looked at us blankly and simply replied "feedback received, but we do not allow anyone in after 12, so you have to leave". Quite honestly, ChatGPT / Claude / Grok could have conveyed more empathy. I am not a VIP customer nor am I a high spender. That being said, I value places with a human connection and empathy, and would regularly visit such places with joy and happiness multiple times. This place is not one of them. For this reason, I will never visit again. If you think likewise, and value authenticity and a true Aussie welcome, you would not visit this place. I hate to give negative reviews but please spend your money elsewhere.

From the moment you walk in, there's a buzz that makes the place feel alive without being overwhelming. Service was friendly, attentive, and well-paced throughout the night. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu, checked in on us at the right moments, and made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. Every dish we ordered was excellent -- not a single miss. We started with the Cauliflower & Mozzarella Croquettes, which were crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy inside. The Grilled King Prawns were flavorful and cooked just right, while the Kingfish Ceviche was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The Stracciatella & Heirloom Tomatoes was simple yet outstanding, letting the quality of the ingredients shine. For mains, the Duck Breast was cooked perfectly and full of rich flavor, and the Lamb Backstrap was tender and well-seasoned. The Pecorino & Ricotta Ravioli was comforting and delicate, while the Seafood Linguine stood out with generous portions of seafood and a beautifully balanced sauce. The Honey Glaze Carrots were the perfect side -- sweet, savory, and executed flawlessly. Overall, State of Grace delivers on every level -- ambience, service, and food.
