Rack of lamb. Special for the day.
    Brandon U.

This was an average place that has some solid grilled dishes, steak at a decent price, and seafood ranging from fish to shellfish. Nothing special. Nothing over-the-top. Decently executed food. The atmosphere is great. Outdoor and indoor seating. Live band. Heat lamps for outside in the winter. It's in the hardware laneway which is just a few blocks north of Flinders. I wouldn't go out of my way to make it here.

Food: From reading some of the other reviews, I think I made a lucky choice when visiting Grill Steak Seafood. I had the lamb shanks and they were beautiful. Two huge pieces of lamb, which just fell off the bone in a flavoursome rich sauce. Atmosphere/service: Both were fine, the restaurant decor was pleasant, it seems a little newer than some other nearby restaurants. Service was efficient. Would I recommend it: My lamb shanks were beautiful and actually very good value for the size, so from my personal experience, yes. However, having seen some of the other meals which were brought out, all meals are not that generous, and look a little overpriced.

Has the Eggplant Parmesan and it was inedible. My husband had lamb and it too was bad ( how can you ruin lamb??). The restaurant was very crowded and noisy. Finally, the waiter spilled an entire tray of drinks down my back, I was soaked in alcohol and syrup. Waiter quietly said sorry but didn't help me clean off..I had to use my own napkins. The insult was that they didn't even complete one of our meals. Bad service, bad food ...stay away!

Walking through Hardware Lane is always difficult with several vendors trying to bid for your business at the same time. Grill Steak Seafood stood out as we got a waft of meaty goodness as we walked past and our original dining choice was booked out. We got the scallops to share and I had the arancini while my partner had the steak. Scallops wrapped in bacon with salad - sounds awesome right? Scallops were a bit overdone but hey who doesn't like bacon. Arancini - three different types but too dry and not very flavoursome Steak - the highlight of the night, it seemed a bit overdone the first few bites but the middle was nice and pink and my partner ate it up as soon as I turned around so it must have been good! Service was average and I think I would try out a few other Melbourne eateries before heading back here.

We visited this establishment while we were in Melbourne during our holiday. We ordered the soup of the day, which was lentil soup with vegetables. The soup lacked seasoning. The garlic bread was delicious. Our main course was carbonara and kangaroo. The Kangaroo was cooked perfectly but it lacked a pinch of salt. The Carbonara lacked seasoning just like the soup.

One of the three bigger rastaurant on Hardware Ln and the expensive one. Too many people on this lane make Boss still looks philistine. But We meet a excellent waitress who make all the experience great. I orered the aged porterhouse. Taste good. Street relax atmospher. Good to try! Try to hang around In front of it more times, u will get a surprise.

Chicken salad , salmon salad ..flat white and a cappuccino .

At first the atmosphere of the place is very cosy which comes with fast and friendly table service, they also stand out for not being too chatty like the rest of the restaurants in the same lane. About the food, well the chicken salad was to die for. There is spice on the chicken that I found interesting and unique, the chicken didn't stink though which I will highly appreciate in Australia, it also came as a whole picture with the other veggies that were in the plate. The salmon salad I must say was fresh fresh fresh salmon, ah how I love when that happens! The shocker was some of the ingredients that were mention in the menu wasn't there!!! I don't know what happened honestly, did the chef forgot or they run our of it, I wonder? So I'll give you dolls a 3 stars. Oh wait we had coffee too, so up to 4 stars because they were bitter and balanced quite nicely with milk , leaving your tongue slightly dry as a teas after every sip ... I will differently come back again to see your friendly faces and have a main dish for the sake of discovery xo

As cheesy and cliché as it sounds, Grill Steak Seafood does indeed have some pretty good quality steaks for a reasonable price. It must be noted that this restaurant is on Hardware Lane and hosts aggressively spruiking out the front of restaurants is to be expected. Also to be expect is being offered free drinks and starters to entice you in, and hey who doesn't like free stuff. Steaks are served simply with just a side of chips or salad and so depending on hunger levels an entrée or dessert is recommended. I cannot comment on the range of pastas and seafood dishes that are also available which seem to garner a lot of negative reviews that are found on other communities. Having been to the restaurant a few times the quality and cooking of the steak has been quite consistent. I recommend the 300g aged eye fillet. Service can be sometimes hit and miss due to the proportion of international wait staff but has been largely positive from my experiences. Controversy and the neighbourhood aside, Grill Steak Seafood is worth visiting for a good reasonably priced steak surrounded by some bustling lane way atmosphere.

Salmon fillet with vegetables and béarnaise sauce. Moist and delicious

Salt n Pepper Squid for entree was delicious and tender. Salmon and vegetables with béarnaise sauce was also delicious. Salmon was moist and tender. Yum x

The service was attentive and the atmosphere was warm and very inviting. The food was good as well. The burger was phenomenal while the steak was just ok. It was the Aged Rib Eye. Really have to appreciate places that know how to make the customer feel valued!!! I would go back for sure to get the burger and give the steak another shot.

We took it because we had just flown in that morning and couldn't/didn't want to stay out late. Interesting thing is the restaurant was half full the entire time so we didn't understand why there wasn't availability any later. Enough of that, on to the food. Appetizer sampler was ok. Nothing stood out. Calamari, mini sausages, pork belly, bruschetta, salad. Wouldn't order again. Regular and garlic breads for another appetizer. Ok but nothing to make me order again. Lots of meat options and I chose the filet out of preference and suggestion by the waiter. Cooked well but the cut of meat was just ok. Good sized portion and in this case, as it should never be with a good cut of meet, the peppercorn sauce came in handy. Side salad instead of "chips" (fries) which wasn't anything special. Service was slow and we didn't have one consistent waiter.

The service needs a little improvement. I was barely acknowledged as I entered the restaurant before I was directed to go upstairs in an empty floor with about 10-15 tables. We were then assigned to the last table by the wall furthest away as if we were penalized. Remember those days where you had to stand on a corner facing the wall as a kid for timeout! That's what I felt like. The entire place was EMPTY!Service was slow and none of the servers looked like they enjoyed their work. In fact, the server took our order AFTER taking the orders from other customers who came in after us. The steak was tender and was nicely grilled but quality of the steaks was middle of the road. Just tasted like your average steak at an average restaurant at an average price -- nothing spectacular. And by the way, the salad tasted average too.

No imagination or presentation with this plate. Just a plate of breaded calamari that arrived less than 5 minutes after I ordered it. I then ordered the Ribeye. It was chewy and had a lot of gristle in it. Half of the pieces I ate I was gnawing through gristle, just not a good piece of meat for 75 AUD. Was not worth the cost at all.

The first time I ventured in was to indulge in what is likely the happiest of Happy Hours - $2 oysters and $12 glasses of Mumm champagne - that is ACTUAL champagne, people. I refer to this kind of treat as Choysters and I guarantee you, you'll feel like a French royal by the time you finish that second glass. My next trip was for dinner. I was so excited to try their famous Steak Frites - Grilled Hopkins River Porterhouse, with salad and BOTTOMLESS FRIES. Can you feel my excitement as you read?! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the salad gave much needed greenery to the dish. This is such a fun destination if you've had a GREAT day at work and want to celebrate or are celebrating an anniversary of birthday but don't want anything too over the top.

This isn't complex food, it's not food that requires discussions on how it was made or where the ingredients are from.
