I always go here for oysters when visiting family living in Melbourne. Super fresh, tasty, and clean. Currently $20 for a dozen Coffin Bay oysters. $28 for St Helen and Bay of Fire. They also have XXL versions of the St Helen and premium ones (like a Miyami breed from Tasmania?) for a bit more. Long high tables right at the store to slurp them. Or bring them to the food court for sit down tables. They also have sea urchin sometimes; $14 for a whole sea urchin, already half shelled and prepared to eat ASAP. Why only 4 stars? They are so popular that their oyster prices IMO are too high. When you can get the same St Helens oysters in nice restaurants for $5 each, and they're charging $3... read more

I LOVE this seafood shop in the South Melbourne Market, not only is full to the brim with the freshest fish and seafood, but they have freshly shucked oysters to buy, by the piece for $1 each! Such a healthy treat to fuel you while your shopping, skirt a little bit of their pre-made tomato and coriander sauce on top, dash of lemon, or perhaps Tabasco if you prefer and slurp it down the hatch! Aptus Seafood also has very good prices on your more gourmet seafood, they have everything from Moreton Bay Bugs, to Rock Lobsters to Mornington Mussels in bags for about $4. Aptus seafood is the biggest fish stall in South Melbourne market. I really like buying their fish as it's really fresh, even for some of those in the trays. Their vongole is good as well as their oysters. Their service is friendly and they are more than happy to give you ice when asked One thing I was unhappy about is their sea urchin. I paid extra for them to "clean" the sea urchin and all they did was to open it. That was the easy bit! The hard bit is to clean all the black things out so it was quite disappointing to see it wasn't done. read more
