Randy has a lovely garden where you will find him quite often tending his flowers (some edible that are served with breakfast) and vegetables. The first time we arrived Randy directed us down to the creek, that runs past the property, to cool off. Nancy is the most delightful breakfast cook and host! She greets each guest with her warm smile and lovely lilting voice. She is such a positive presence and always ready with suggestions of things to do around the area. Our favorite is Nancy's favorite hike, which she has done countless times. I am in awe because it is challenging. We are going to make it to the Meadow this time! Just ask. The rooms are so charming and comfortable and we marveled the fact that we could sleep peacefully with the windows open in July! Close by is our favorite renowned restaurant "Knife and Fork" (you will not get a better meal anywhere, ever!) and of course, Penland School of Crafts. So hike, bike, eat, sleep well, and be happy!

We were big fans of Blind Squirrel Brewing before and now we're happy to call ourselves fans of the lodge and restaurant. One note... We stayed in the River Room and while it was comfortable, clean and welcoming, it's on the side of the building, so the street light shines right into the windows. I had a little trouble sleeping because the room was so illuminated. My boyfriend, however, slept like a log. So, it may not bother everyone. ;)

The kitchen is quaint, but well equipped if you like to do your own cooking. They thoughtfully provided coffee, tea, sweeteners, almond milk, yummy muffins, and chips to tide me over. The king bed is very comfortable, plenty of blankets and heaters to keep it warm. The bathroom has lots of towels and was well supplied too. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood. It was lovely to walk along the road to the nearby stream, enjoying the autumn foliage. There is a great country store just up the block with crafts, a bar, a cafe, and live music on the weekends- a fun, family friendly place to sit outside without having to drive! I also enjoyed visiting nearby Grandfather Mountain, the Linville Falls Winery, and Mountain Grounds Coffee shop. The Biltmore Estate (a two hour drive away) was also a worthwhile day trip.

There were drinks and snacks provided in the room. The only downfall is that we both like to sleep in and it's right outside the communal breakfast spot. Although, thanks to that we woke up every morning on time to eat the yummy food and get our day started. Also, due to the age of the place the water was brown in the tub, so we were unable to use it. Regardless of these few things, we'll be back and it's definitely worth 5 stars!

No room left at the Inn and no power, but pops was so kind to let us use the facilities and share pillows and blankets and feel safe sleeping in the truck in the parking lot overnight. Just the respite we needed to make it home the following day. We will be back! Love to all those who showed kindness in the face of this catastrophe!

His English is poor; made doubly difficult by his recalcitrance. When I first called to make a reservation, I gave him the usual info, and then he said: "But I need "a Jeep." WTF? "Why do you need a Jeep?" After 3 mins of confusion, it turns out he was trying to saying "Zip" as in "Zip Code!" Not to rave forever, but this fellow was gifted in his obnoxiousness. He absolutely doesn't listen, he's not a "people person" and he's instantly argumentative. Not a good look for somebody in the hospitality business. (On the three occasions I spoke with him --and was constantly interrupted-- at the end of each I thought: "OK, you win for now. You've had YOUR say. I'll have mine in the clear, objective atmosphere of TripAdvisor.") I have to note that several reviews compliment that the "Owners are nice people." Must be the wife they dealt with. In the future he may want to let the wife speak until he can afford a charisma transplant. No one was there when I arrived in the middle of the day and the Construction crew had to give me my key. The rooms are recently renovated but nevertheless trashy and malfunctioning. e.g: Hot water took 22 min to begin in my first room, and it didn't work in second room. (I got a new room cause the walls are paper thin and the constantly barking dog in next room was unacceptable.) THE PLACE REEKED OF "Fabuloso" !!! The stench still lingered when I got home 3 days later and I had to wash air out all of my bags, laundry and everything. If you have the inclination, go to Google Reviews for photos, more details, etc. I cannot recommend that you stay here.
