I would define it as "Sophisticated Simplicity". I was staying here for a personal getaway and was assigned to a beautiful room with a separate sitting room, a gorgeous bathroom, and a zen bedroom. The decor was lovely, stylish and tasteful. The staff was professional and helpful. It was quiet and relaxing and only a short walk away from the town center, perfect location! There is a pretty little creek that winds along the back garden area, I really enjoyed sitting out and watching the ducks. I am torn between keeping this little gem all to myself, and sharing its amazingness with the world! I can't wait to come back.

August 2026 - "Treehouse of Disappointment"…read more Celebrating 17 years of marriage, chose to spend $291 to book the treehouse - loved the pics, reviews were good, both of us were looking forward to the quaint and cool campground vibe. What should have been a fun and unique experience, instead was a huge disappointment. Throughout our time on the property we used the "text this number if you have any issues" which the booking instructed us to do... more on that later. Arrived at the property at around 4:15. Trouble began immediately, as it took 3 different door codes and ten minutes going back and forth via text to get through the front door. Once inside we explored a little, unpacked the cooler into the mini fridge, and were excited for our special night. Next issue began when I noticed on top of the microwave was a restaurant style tub with dirty dishes in it: all covered in food. Ew. Texted the number, woman came to treehouse to pick up the dirty dishes - while she was on the way I opened bottle of champagne and grabbed a glass off of the shelf of "clean dishes". This glass was covered stem to stern in fingerprints. When housekeeper arrived, she apologized and began to take the tray away. My wife asked her if the bed sheets were clean, considering the dirty dishes, and pointing out as well a bunch of fingerprints all over the sliding glass door... (our overall faith in the cleanliness of the treehouse was certainly in question) She said she hadn't been the one to clean this unit but they were for sure clean. Ok. In the time it took for the housekeeper to arrive I said, smiling to my wife, we should just watch some tv... just reset the experience and not let the shortcomings so far ruin our anniversary. Tried to connect to Netflix, but the WiFi for the tv was at 1 bar and would try to open Netflix then time out and fail. Hmm. The housekeeper when asked about this said the treehouse had "extenders and you might need to connect to the Pineola WiFi" then gave us the password. Fine fine I'll do that - I reset the internet on the tv, connected to the proper WiFi network and STILL - 1 bar that was as good as zero. No local tv channels or streaming would be working apparently either. At this point we had experienced problems entering the unit, 2 different failings with unclean dishes, dirty glass door, and no access to WiFi - in the span of 40 minutes. Also, the loft to the bed area has a ladder that does not connect up top in certain places and rests on a carpet on the floor that could certainly slide - this is a disaster in the making for some poor guest so please be careful if you decide to stay on the treehouse. We decided to leave and go to a hotel 20 minutes down the road and try to salvage our evening/anniversary . We unloaded the fridge and drove to the front office which was closing soon. The person behind the bar was nice but ultimately not in charge of anything on the property- she contacted the property manager and informed him we were having issues. The property manager is the ONE good thing that this property has going for it - (Terry, ty for trying, I wish you had an owner with faith in your decision making...) Running out of room in this review - to conclude, that evening Terry over the phone said this was not the normal experience, and we'd be receiving a full $291 refund (which was all we wanted) and he went one step further and offered us a free night at a later date: Wow! We felt heard and looked forward to giving the Pineola another try, The owner however - (via text always)- at first said no refunds, then refunded $100 and after 2.5 weeks of me calling every three days to say this was not sufficient (as Terry had promised us a full refund which ultimately made our decision to leave the one we chose to make) offered us a 191 dollar credit to stay again at the property. We hope the owner has a change of heart, and backs up his property manager: ultimately cannot see us giving this place another try...considering cleanliness and customer service are not priorities. Will be posting on every possible review site in the hopes to get the owners attention - similar reviews found on Facebook- not just us seeing this treehouse for a false advertisement of unique and cool stay.

Had an excellent experience from top to bottom on a quick weekend getaway to Blowing Rock…read more Parking was a breeze in the hotel parking lot, and the service was very friendly when we entered. This is a very new addition to Blowing Rock, built in 2024. And it shows, the place is spotless, modern and bright. The lobby has an amazing lounge and bar area with a full service fine dining style restaurant. Everything about is sleek and modern. We enjoyed an amazing evening at the bar and restaurant (separate review). Our room was immaculate, and again a very modern and sleek style. Beds and pillows were very comfortable, not a single complaint about the room or the cleanliness. And the views facing downtown Blowing Rock from the patio with the mountains in the background was superb. We enjoyed morning coffees and afternoon happy hours on this comfy patio overlooking the heart of Main St in downtown Blowing Rock. A pleasant surprise was the continental style breakfast which is included with the stay. A kicked up version with better food from what you'd expect at a Hampton Inn or comparable hotel. Highly recommend for a great stay in the heart of Blowing Rock!

Room rates clearly reflect the premium location, but are not as bad as you might expect. But there is also the less good news: the rooms (judging by our "standard king") are smallish (not European hotel small, but getting close...), and a bit inconvenient (our closet was awkward to get into). Ice can only be sourced from the front desk and the bar/dining area can be noisy. And as for noise, there were hotel mechanicals (we were told it was an exhaust fan from the kitchen 3 stories below) clearly and somewhat unpleasantly audible in our room. We were told that this was being worked on, but it seems to me that The Embers has been open long enough to have had this resolved by now. So net...a very good and convenient place stay, but don't expect it to be without some minor annoyances.

Having never been to Boone, I suggested we go check it out, and found this relatively new Home2 Suites, right near the heart of the city, so decided to book it. It was easy to get to, right off the main strip, with plenty of parking. Parking is free, but you must display a provided parking permit while in the lot. Check in was very easy, and with the Hilton app, you even have the ability to check in on your phone, pick your room, and even use the your phone as the room key. The lobby was nice, well decorated, and designed, very bright and lots of natural light. The room was a nice size, with a mini kitchen, a small refrigerator with freezer (not mini fridge), a full size microwave, dishwasher glasses, plates and silverware, and kitchen sink (separate from the bathroom). There was also a sofa and desk/dresser area. The bed was ok, but a bit too firm for my liking. The stays included breakfast in the lobby, which offered a nice spread of warm and cold breakfast food, juices, breads, waffle bar, and yogurts It was a nice property, still very well maintained. The staff we encounter were friendly and helpful, and other than the bed, I was happy with the location and facility.

The staff is immeasurably kind, the other folks staying in the house and cottages around you cannot help but share in this kindness. It's like going to a family reunion while also having peace and space to yourself. The rooms are the definition of comfort - and yes, tv's are nowhere to be found. It's a freeing feeling where you can just focus on those around you. Small radios are in each room and old radio stories on cd are available for your enjoyment during your stay. There's large clawfoot tubs large enough for two, and each item is delicately chosen to stay within the realm of an old farmhouse from long ago. There are treats and coffee available at all hours of the day and night, a delicious breakfast that is 2nd to none, and a social every day with meats, vegetables, and cheeses that is unlike anything you've had before. We decided to enjoy ours on the front porch in rocking chairs and I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole stay! The town around the Inn is stunningly charming. It feels like one should be walking or taking a wagon from the Inn, rather than driving, to the General Store or to Over Yonder restaurant which is just a short distance from the Inn. I cannot speak highly enough of this B&B. We will definitely be back and if you're considering staying, consider no longer. Reserve now!

For my entrée, I ordered the large mac and cheese. The portion was generous, rich, and very satisfying after a long day of riding in the mountains. Everything was served hot and prepared with care. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, making it a great place to unwind after spending the day exploring the area. The restaurant felt welcoming without being overly formal, and I never felt rushed during my meal. Overall, I had a very good experience. Good food, attentive service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I would gladly return the next time I'm in Blowing Rock.

Hidden Gem in Blowing Rock…read more After spending the morning at Grandfather Mountain, I took the scenic route into Blowing Rock and stumbled onto an absolute gem. Hellbender Bed & Beverage and Bistro Roca share the same space now, and the result is one of the most charming spots I've found in the High Country. The outdoor patio was beautiful, with flowers everywhere, cozy seating areas, fire pits, and plenty of dogs lounging alongside their owners. The gravel patio was a little uneven, so my table had a slight tilt, but honestly, the atmosphere more than made up for it. I started with a glass of Crémant de Loire. Crisp, cold, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted after a morning of mountain exploring. For lunch, I ordered the Moules Frites. The mussels arrived swimming in a rich, flavorful broth with basil and sun-dried tomatoes, alongside a generous pile of perfectly cooked fries. The combination with the sparkling wine was fantastic. I cleaned the plate. The service was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. My only suggestion is a little more attention to the details. If you're serving mussels, a spoon is almost essential for enjoying that incredible broth. A smaller seafood fork would also make fishing out the mussels easier. Minor things, but details that can elevate a great meal into an exceptional one. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. My entrée and glass of bubbles came in around $23, which felt like a great value considering the quality, portion size, and setting. I skipped dessert only because I was determined to finish every last fry, then headed into town to walk off lunch and hunt for something sweet. If I return--and I absolutely would--I might even stay at the inn. The cottages looked adorable, and the whole property felt warm and inviting. Just a short walk from downtown Blowing Rock, this place delivers on atmosphere, food, and mountain-town charm. Five stars for the food. Four stars for service. Five stars overall because I'd happily come back tomorrow. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. Get out there and stuff your face.
