Our experience at The Pineola was terrible. We booked a cabin for a family wedding, expecting a nicer, more professional experience. Instead we got disappointment at every turn. Upon our arrival, we wanted to start a fire in the gas fireplace in the cabin. I reached out to the Pineola contact I had been communicating with via text and asked for directions for lighting the fireplace. Their response was to send a link to a document that didn't provide instructions. We then received a text that said the fireplace was not able to be used at that time. We expressed our disappointment, as that was one of the reasons we booked the cabin. There was no offer to move us to another cabin or any other accommodation. The next morning we had to reach out to them once again to ask about how to turn the heat up in the cabin, as the inside temperature had gotten to 56 degrees. After much work, we finally figured it out. Also that morning the water was out throughout the property. We were alerted at 8:45 AM via text, with no alternative suggestions for bathroom usage or showering facilities. The closest toilet we found was at the BP station down the street, and since we had family functions that day, showering was soon needed. The water finally came on at 12:00 PM. While the water was out, we received a standard text asking if there was anything they could do to improve our experience. I responded that it had not been a good experience: in addition to these issues, the décor was run-down, bed was lumpy, water pressure (when we had it) was low. I asked how they planned to compensate us for the inconveniences. They responded that the water issue was a surprise and that the fireplace in the unit was just for show. In fact, the fireplace was NOT for show, as it had a pilot switch and regulator attached. The cabin was also advertised with a fireplace on a detailed sheet on the website. We never received information on compensation, nor compensation in general. At that point, my husband and I decided to move to the Marriott Courtyard and sent a text that we were checked out. Our needs were dismissed and we were directly lied to about the amenities or lack thereof. To add to our frustration, the person on the text refused to provide the full name of the General Manager of the property when requested so that we could communicate with him/her directly rather than through a general email, preventing us from speaking directly with the person in charge to take responsibility for addressing the issues. We sent repeated emails requesting compensation with nothing but standard emails thanking us for the stay, no direct, personal response. read more

Our favorite place to stay when we come to the mountains! The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the location is perfect! Close to amazing hiking trails and great restaurants. Plus, the tap room has cold beer and great live music. My favorite mug was purchased at their gift shop (which has a ton of fun stuff!), but unfortunately I dropped it. So, I'm looking forward to going back & getting a new one! I've stayed at the Pineola many times now and the staff were always incredibly attentive and friendly. Whenever we plan our hiking trips, I don't even bother looking at other lodging options, because we love staying at the Pineola! read more

I've been here twice in the past year and both were amazing experiences! I LOVE the live music on the deck and dancing, the family-friendly vibes, the fact they have a bar with munchy foods available, and the super friendly/helpful owners. The camping grounds are clean, quiet, flat and easy for camping, the bath house is also super clean with washer/dryer available. Easily accessible to some great hiking trails. I also enjoy the food/coffee trucks. I've visited numerous places across western, central and coastal NC, from campgrounds to fancy 5 stars to kitschy airbnbs and the pineola is easily one of my top 3 most memorable and favorite spots to vacation. read more

Everything about The Pineola is awesome! Your Home away from home! The owners and their staff are the best of the best. They care so much about their community and are always giving back! The Tap bar is great. The entertainment is wonderful! So much fun dancing and getting to know other guests and locals. If you are staying there the accommodations are amazing and comfy. From camping, to cottages and newly renovated rooms filled with pure mountain charm. The Pineola is a must when visiting the area. We stayed in the RV Park and while cutting grass, their guy's lawn mower sent out a rock that busted a window on our RV. They acknowledged that it happened and another person saw the accident. Even though they initially indicated responsibility, they never paid a penny for the repair to the window. Thank goodness our insurance company stepped in and covered the damage but it was disappointing that The Pineola didn't act in a responsible fashion. I can't recommend this place as a result. read more

I can't say enough good things about the Pineola! As a local I was ecstatic when it opened, offering live music on the weekends with outside seating that is dog-friendly and a very nice bar that offers an array of craft beers, wine and non-alcoholic options - also who can forget the free popcorn machine? I was so impressed with a Pineola that I had my whole wedding party and friends and family stay there for my wedding in 2022. We spent the whole weekend at the Pineola, we had our arrival party the night before there in their private party room and after the wedding, we headed back to the Pineola because they had live music and my wedding guest could still enjoy their evening and then safely walk to back to their rooms. I recommend the Pineola to anybody that comes to visit us in the mountains, it's more than a cute little hotel on the side of the road, it offers a great community atmosphere tons of outside activities for kids and a nice place for parents to go get a drink and unwind. Great family owned business with cabin like feel quaint rooms but camping rv hookups, games, basket ball..entertainment that locals enjoy too. Really enjoyed my stay at the Pineola. I came in town for the AMA adventure motorcycle ride and stayed at one of the tent camping sites they offer at the Inn. The live music on the back patio was awesome both Friday and Saturday night. They have rocking chairs and gas fire pits to keep warm and relax. The place was packed Friday night as we had great weather. Lots of locals had stopped in to enjoy the action and the Tap room had lots of wine and beer choices. They offer motel style lodging, cabins, on premises RVs or bring your own RV or camper and they have full hook ups. The tent camping sites are small but offered everything I needed for two good nights of sleep. The bath house was one of the nicest I have ever seen at a campground with warm showers with in room heaters. This was perfect after my long wet rather cool (it rained from Friday at midnight until I left on Sunday) riding adventure. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some place to stay as they have so many options. They have a great selection of local beers in the beer cave and some of the best frozen pot pies I have ever had. The gift shop is nice and not overly expensive. read more

Highly recommended! This hotel was under $100, located 30 min from Beech Mountain resort, and has it's own tap room. The rooms were nicely appointed and noticed a few small perks such as 5 or 6 coffee bags for the coffee machine (most places just give 1 regular and 1 decaf), a ridiculous number of towels, nice tv and tub you would be comfortable taking a bath in. Little benches outside each room were a nice touch and like how they use old fashioned room keys that don't stop working if they come into contact with cellphones or credit cards. It wasn't the most luxurious hotel i have ever seen but felt more at home there than others, like you are in a friend or relative's guest house. read more

What a cool place to camp in an RV! Full hookups, a beautiful open field, a nice nature trail, fire pits and gazebos. A short walk up to the office and hotel, brings you to a most interesting place with a bar with many beers and wine, a fireplace, a massive and comfy game room with leather couches and tons of board games, and music on the weekends. A really fun outdoor deck with rocking chairs and fire pits, pickle ball courts, corn hole, and basketball. The owners are super accommodating and so friendly. read more

If I could give less than a one star review, I would because honestly they don't deserve any stars. This place is run down and our experience was so terrible that we actually had to find a new hotel when we had already paid for this one. We came to NC for the Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain. My mother booked and paid for two rooms for 4 nights at this motel because the price was right. We forgot that golden rule that you truly get what you pay for. Upon checking in, we headed to our room where we discovered that the A/C in the room didn't work. It was pumping out room temp air. Mind you this is in the sweltering heat of July in North Carolina. We headed to the front office and a young man came immediately to our room. He tinkered around for a few minutes and we had AC. Within 10 minutes, there was a noise and the AC was out again. We went back to the office and once the man looked at the unit, he said that it would have to be replaced but could not be done until the next day. We then asked for a room with AC only to be told they had nothing available in the motel. A quick look online showed a cabin vacancy. They had a cabin open which cost a little more but the owner (old man) said absolutely not. He wouldn't even let us pay the difference to sleep in comfort. I told him that was not a compromise. We had no AC and it was hot outside. The old man owner then looked at me and said, "If you don't like it, pack your sh*t and get out." We were stunned to be treated like this and then the owner got in his car, leaving the property. End of discussion. I tried to book another place for that evening but was unsuccessful. I managed to find a beautiful place for the next night and the rest of our trip which thankfully had nothing to do with this rundown spot. So we spent one completely miserable, sweat filled night on the thin foam (NOT memory foam) mattress with threadbare, scratchy sheets. The towels were just as bad and the room smelled so badly of smoke that our clothes smelled like smoke after we left. The terrible water pressure made for quick showers just to get the dried sweat off of us. This place is not only disappointing, it is on such bad need of a renovation, that I am not sure it could even be fixed. Don't go. Don't waste your money for the chance they may have AC because if anything goes wrong, you can be 100% certain the owner WILL NOT care and may even treat you like he treated us. When we relayed our terrible experience to some of the members of the Scottish clans that we are a part of, they laughed and said that everyone knows this and they referred to the place as Shinola. In fact, this is one of the only places they DON'T recommend in the area because of several experiences with the owner similar to ours and the rundown state of the motel. Lesson learned. Slightly expensive because we had to double pay for a hotel but worth it to get out of this place. The owner really should retire and leave the customer service aspect to someone who actually cares about customers. The way that he spoke to us (in front of our children no less) was so completely unacceptable that if I could report him to the Better Business Bureau, I would. This is such a cute place to stay! The rooms are not fancy, but they are very clean and have amenities like a fridge, microwave and big screen tv. We stayed multiple days, and the cleaning crew stopped by everyday to offer fresh towels and extra soap and shampoo. Bed was comfortable, shower was hot and staff was friendly. Don't understand the bad reviews from the younger people. My husband and I have stayed here for the last 2 years when visiting the area. Very nice people own the place and a younger guy works in the front office who is always very friendly. The rooms are always over the top clean. I am a very very picky clean person. And I can't find anything at all wrong with the rooms. My husband is even amazed that I can't find anything wrong with the rooms. The bathrooms is always spotless. The room smells fresh and clean. The bed is comfortable. And the carpet is clean. They clean the room everyday. They even have a laundry that you can wash clothes. This place has been taken care of very well. You can't even find a speck of dust on the baseboards in this place. I'm amazed at the 2 young people's review. Are they sure they stayed at this hotel and the Parkview Cabins down road. We stayed there our very first time visiting the area and it was horrible. More like what they were explaining. read more

This was my third time staying here. I stay here because I don't like camping, and the motel is convenient to outdoor activities in the Grandfather Mountain and Linville Gorge areas. For my first two stays, I thought the cleanliness and comfort were fair for the price. This time, my room was on the second floor of the office building, as opposed to the main inn building where I had previously stayed. I guess these must be the lesser-used overflow rooms, because this room looked like it hadn't been touched since the 70s, other than having a flatscreen TV. It had shag carpet that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while, uncomfortable beds with stained sheets, and a really old bathroom. The room was Motel 6 quality, if that. I would probably stay here again, since I had two good stays prior to this one, but I would make sure that I didn't get put in this building again. read more

We just checked in for the Highland Games. The air conditioner in the room was not working. We spoke with the owner Troy about changing rooms. We were told that in order to do that, we would have to pay for our current non ac working room AND the new room. We were blown away. I asked..."really?" His reply...Troy...the owner...."If you don't like it, pack up your (explitive) and leave". Word for word. Run away from this place. Stay ANYWHERE else. read more

We requested a dog-friendly room. Hugely overpriced! Bare and basic-- not renovated in the century! Crummy mattress, old sheets, and blankets. The ancient heater in the wall in the bathroom was a fire hazard. Our room looked out to the open dumpster. One night -mid-week--in the dog-friendly room set us back $149 plus tax ( plus pet deposit). Very disappointing and very expensive for such a place. read more

My room was given to someone who didn't even have a reservation. And when I asked what they suggested I do without a room, and no available anywhere else because of the Wolley Worm festival, I was told to try I40, which is 28 miles away.
