Today we stopped in Sauk Prairie and explored the pork grillers stuffed with mushrooms onions tomatoes and provolone and they were freakishly fabulous! I was looking for a place that carried local products to take back some treats and snacks for the road and shelf stable items that would keep on a 16 hr ride and it was like a one stop shop. Not only did they have great in-house items but they had local cheeses, honey and wines from local producers. The Buffalo sticks and summer sausages were my absolute favorite and the bacon was soooo good. I did end up having some items shipped and they arrived in great condition even with temps in the 90s. Next time I visit I'm bringing a cooler because they have a crazy good deal on a family pack with assorted meats that's amazing and pricing you cant beat. Thank you for being so friendly and warm and helpful in store even during a holiday weekend.

I live 2-1/2 hours away. I stumbled in the door because I went to Plain for Cedar Grove Cheese. (See my review of Cedar Grove Cheese.) It was closed at the time but a cheesemaker came outside to greet me and said their cheese was available at Straka Meats. I had seen a billboard for the meat market on Cty B, so I went to look for it. And I'm glad I did! The selection is overwhelming. The store is outstandingly clean and obviously well maintained. I have no reason to believe the shop is any different, which impressed me a great deal. We wound up with a mix of Straka and Cedar Grove products. Best Braunschweiger I've ever had. Seriously! I'll gladly make the trek out of my way (Plain is sort-of on the way to the family cottage) to visit Straka for brats, chops and who knows what I'll find next? Hint: If you're headed to the largest tourist trap in Wisconsin (the water park capital of the world) you're not that far away from Plain. Take a ride to Plain, visit Straka and Cedar Grove Cheese. Bring a large cooler! You'll thank me later.

Had a whole beef animal processed there. They charge $4 for "USDA" testing. That is called cost of…read morebusiness. They were significantly more expensive for processing than other meat lockers I've used. They do box it all up nicely and wrap in paper, but that isn't worth the extra cost to me. I'll go to another meat locker next year. $130 for beef slaughter, $0.85 per pound processing and then the good 'ol "USDA" testing fee of $4.00. Seriously!

Overall, not a bad haul! We got there an hour before close and the bag was already ready for us. The meats come frozen so be sure to plan for that. We had a cooler bag with us, but they sell the disposable ones in store if you need one. It was enough for dinner for 12 adults and a whole litter of kids, with some meat to spare still (though we had done a lot of snacking while the food was cooking). It was the perfect package for our weekend getaway and will hit them up again if we're headed up north.

They also have several thin blue line flags flying in their parking area. Needless to say, they have made their political views clear and I felt incredibly unwelcome.
