I'm from New England so I thought I should lower my standards, but there was no need; it was an amazing sub. The owner came out and asked, and when I told him it was the best i'd had in years, and my only regret was I couldn't try the pizza, he disappeared into the kitchen and came back out with two slices to go, on the house! First things first the food is the best at Richie Bs the staff is friendly and the joint is very clean. Richies pizza is the closest thing to NY pizza with out going to NY city I have ever eaten . I had lunch there today and I guess it was Richies lunch time as well. He sat down across from me eating a pasta dish I had not seen. I asked him was it on the menu he told me no because it was very time intensive which means it would be too much for his customers. He went and got another plate and dished me out a large portion. I have never written a bad review. Funny we didn't & wont ever have the chance to even try the food... First time at Richie B's. We took a look at the menu & decided to go elsewhere. We were followed out of the door by the MASSIVE owner as he taunted and cussed at us "who's got the best food in Dothan?! I'm from up north!" As two young women we have never been made to feel threatened simply because we chose a different style of food. DO NOT GO TO RICHIE B'S. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Great find for a pizza and sandwich shop! Too bad Richie B's isn't in my home town. We had a group where everyone ordered something different, so I got to try several different items. First, the Philly Cheese steak was excellent, and not a drop of grease to be seen. It was served with a side of spicy sauce, which while not traditional for a cheese steak, complimented the sandwich well. The pizza was also great, and not greasy at all. Thin crust isn't my thing, but the crust tasted good, and not sugary or sweet like you find in most restaurants. The sauce was also spicy, not sweet, another plus to me. Fresh, flavorful pepperoni and veggies complimented the pizza well. The sausage was pretty good as well, not as good as the local Italian grocery store where I grew up, but far better than what is usually on pizza in the south. Finally, the egg plant parmesan...not soggy or greasy (clearly grease is the enemy in their kitchen), and the best I have seen outside of a city Little Italy. The owner is a great New York personality, and clearly cares about the food he serves, which is the hallmark of a great restaurant. Food is made and served fresh, and when they run out, they are out, so go get there early if you want variety. My husband and I decided to try this place out. We each got a slice of pepperoni pizza, and I added pineapples on top of mine. The pizza slice was huge, which would be great if the pizza had tasted good. The crust had a weird, grainy texture to it and to be honest the pizza tasted bland. The pineapple was a mess, too. Instead of chunks it was shredded like a dessert topping. It made the pizza super soggy. So I really don't see what the big hype is. I've had better pizza from Pizza Hut. read more

On our first visit, we loved the pizza and Cuban sandwich. So for my 66th birthday, I asked my daughter to make a return trip. We were completely taken back when the owner (I presume from his swag and the sheepish smiles from the other employees) yelled at my daughter and her 18 month old son while in line to "shut the kid up because I can't think". It seems some people want to excuse it as an expected New York attitude....but I've spent many summers in Manhattan and I've never experienced such rudeness. If you have ever eaten pizza in New York City, and you are now living in Dothan, AL, you know that hollow feeling. This is the only place in town which can turn out a true New York style pie. Everything from the cheese which stretches, to the high quality meats and veggies, to the hand tossed crust, screams NY City. This is by far not the least expensive pizza in town, but there is nothing in town which compares. I love Alabama, but after the company I worked for sent me to NY and I lived in Kew Gardens, Queens, for six months, I was ruined for pizza forever. I am so glad I found this place. I heard they sell sandwiches here, but I haven't gotten tired of the pizza yet. The only problem is they are not open for dinner and they don't deliver. But I can live with that. read more

PIZZA here is legit!! I'm originally from San Diego where great pizza is everywhere & this place is the real deal with huge slices!! I could have done without the attitude I got from the staff (not the owner) also if they had more hours or not such weird hours that would also be awesome. Love all their sandwiches and the spicy sauce that comes with the cheesesteak. I also always get the huge pickles they have on the counter! THe only reason Richie B's gets 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the fact that they operate on a shoestring budget which creates delays in service. The food is the closest thing you'll find to NY style pizza and sandwiches you'll find in this area. A real gem. read more

Awesome pizza! Though I've never been to New York to attest that this is authentic NY pizza, I have no doubt that it is! All you have to do is speak with the owner, Richie, for about 5 minutes to hear his life story and realize his passion for serving the best pizza around! The white pie is my favorite! I believe it's a base of whole ricotta and mozzarella cheeses with nicely cooked chopped chicken breast (and whatever other toppings you might want). Their Philly steak and cheese sandwich is also a winner! It may look small, but you probably won't be hungry after eating one! Do try to save room for dessert. I haven't had a piece yet, but I saw their cheesecake. One slice is approx 8 in tall and about 1/4 the size of a whole cheesecake. Looks so good!! The only negative: the restaurant isn't big enough, it's usually hot in there, and it seems that they need a few fly traps. They could use a spruce up! Oh, and they're only open like 11:30 am-3:00 am on Tues-Sat (I think?). read more

Pretty good pizza by the slice on the cheap from Conan the Barbarian. The owner prior to becoming a restauranteur was an actor and played Conan the Barbarian for years along with various tv appearances on 80s sitcoms. The location appears to be a former Captain Ds. This place appears to serve some serious sandwiches as well. I have only had a couple super cheesy large slices a couple times and I've been happy with my orders. I usually stop here at least once when I'm in town. My style pizza and philly cheese steaks are the most popular items. Apparently he closed up shop for a period of time but found his way back to Dothan and the people are pleased. Nice example of a small town locally owned operated pizza joint. Fresh made dough, homemade sauce and quality toppings. Crunchy chewy and always extra cheesy. I will say the dining area and restrooms are not always as clean as they could be and could be off putting to some. I wouldn't call it dirty... it's more a byproduct of drawing a large lunch crowd. read more

Having grown up in Philadelphia, I'm pretty familiar with your basic cheesesteak. I've tried dozens and dozens of awful imitations, but Richie B's is as close as you'll get to the real thing in this part of the country. And the cheesesteak is not the only great item on the menu. My wife really likes the hot dogs and the pastrami sub. The pizza is an authentic, thin-crust, NY style and it's delicious. The slices are huge.
