We googled this place and called to see the turn around time of a dress shirt alteration. The man who answered the phone did answer our questions but he rushed plus off the phone and said he could do it. When I showed up, there's no meter parking and the street is very filthy. Upon waking in he immediately said "oh I only do men's shirts the lady down the street can help you with women's clothing. "And just tried to dismiss me - I didn't like that. ((My money is green and spends the same as a man's. )) But now since I'm in a bind I have to go to the lady at 215 7th St. 90012 to her alterations. And she was very helpful I will leave a review on her business page. Only giving a two star because the price was fair & he did problem solve for his terrible unnecessary mistake of being sexist. read more

*COVID Update* They are open for business and requiring masks to be worn inside. They are CASH ONLY. I bought a suit a couple doors down from SuitFellas and needed tailoring done day of. They were able to hem the pants and take it in a bit on the legs. They quoted me $16 and for an hour and a half. They did a great job. Pants looked and fit great! The seat of my favorite jeans was coming apart, I wanted to save them, but I wasn;'t sure if it was possible. So I took my pants here on the advice a of friend. These guys were amazing, they patched up the seat, sewed it up nice and good. You cannot tell there was a repair job on the pants. They fit real good and it was done super fast like in 15 mins and only cost be $6. Next time I need something altered I will take it here and see what they can do for me. read more

My family has been going to Richard's Tailor shop since the early 2000s. My dad and brother would get their suits from Roger Stuart and then walk a few blocks over to Carlos. I've repeated that with all my guy friends and now my husband is hooked. Even though I have moved to Chicago, I judge everyone's work against Carlos and his crew. They are fast and good no matter what you need. If there is a chance I am coming home and can wait on getting clothes fixed, I wait. TIP: If you are out of state and visiting, go buy your suits at Roger Stuart then bring them over to Richard's. I have been getting my clothing tailored at Richard's Tailor Shop since 2000 and 22 years later he is still my go to guy. I have placed him in the most time sensitive conditions through the years and he has not dropped the ball once (of course my appreciation always comes in the form of a tip or referrals). Pricing is affordable because he has been in the same small shop...forever. I have read some of the reviews complaining about being hung up on to coming taking $40 that was offered because of the inability to accept "no" for an answer. Richard is short on his phone because he and his staff are extremely busy going above and beyond for loyal customers like me. My recommendation is to go down to his shop during business hours with the clothing in need of alteration; tell hm what you want - be open for him to tell you what you need - give him a shot. After giving him well over 100 referrals I haven't had a complaint yet. read more

When it comes to my tailoring needs I can tell you I don't take the subject lightly. And to you men out there let me just say, if you don't get your suits tailored, you're basic and need to stick to sweatpants and track suits while leaving fine clothing to the grownups. But once you make the leap and say, "Hey, I want to dress fly as fuck like those gentlemen I see out and about" then get your suit game right and GET YOUR SHIT TAILORED. I can't even convey the pain I feel when I see an otherwise handsome gent wearing some dumpy, baggy suit, draping over his frame like a potato sack. FACT: The threads themselves don't have to be crazy expensive to make them tailor worthy, in fact you can take an otherwise frugally purchased suit and make it *look* expensive just by getting the right fit. And that, my friends, is why a tailor is so important. They simply make you look better. Everything I've brought to Richard's has turned out stellar. I speak with Carlos and he just knows what's up, you can tell the crew in this place has been mastering the craft for a very long time. No matter what I bring in, Carlos and I chat for maybe five minutes, he makes a few marks and voila, I'm out the door. A few days later and I'm scooping up what's mine, paying crazy cheap prices for top notch services, and I'm ready to roll around town in a suit that looks like it was made for me. I know some folks that trust the resident tailor at their local dry cleaner and if it works out, hey, good for them. But Richard's is a Tailor Shop. They've done a brilliant job with both women's and men's tailoring that I've brought it. They've done same-day rush jobs for me for little or no extra. The main guy (not sure if he's Richard or not) is always super-friendly. I don't recall the prices exactly, but I think hemming women's pants runs about $6-7 for a rush and $4-5 for regular service. They really try to work with you to provide any service you need and are very honest about the work they do and can do. I found this place through a referral from a friend. The shop is located in a shady and smelly part of town, but if you can get over that, you're on your way to great fitting clothes. They are affordable and the owner is very nice. They have these (seriously) little dressing rooms that you can put on your pants to have him size your hem. He'll do it however you want, just tell him. Short, quarter-break, full-break, you name it. They will also do the original stitching on your jeans for a little more. I like doing that on jeans as it just looks right. On chinos, I just get them to do a regular hem since you won't see it. Next day service is easy, they will even turn it around same day if you really need. He seems like he'll work with you. I don't drive here, because that can be a challenge, but the Dash E goes right to his door basically. read more

Just bought a new suit and wanted a really good tailor asap since I need my suit the next day but come to find out they didn't come cheap especially if you want quality work and speed. Found this little shop in DTLA since I live 2 minutes away and let me tell you they are amazing. The person that helped me was really nice and helpful. I got my jacket tighter and sleeves shortens and pants fitted. Their work on my clothes was EXCELLENT. Their 40 year experience really showed in the quality. I also got my clothes the very next day. Needles to say I will be coming back to this place. Even though parking is bad and it's cash only. But with the job they did I can easily over look that. read more

If you have clothes that need that extra touch of refinement, this is the place to go. It's a real tailor shop that does great work and you can trust them with your finest. I brought a $2000 Ann Demeulemeester jacket here that just needed some fine tuning, and I was worried that they'd mess up the styling and details of the jacket (I mean, that's part of what you pay for, right?). They did a fantastic job and I couldn't even tell that there was work done on the jacket, besides the fact that it fit like a glove now. There's a parking lot on 7th Spring and if you're patient, you'll be able to score some street parking and bring cash, because this shop is cash only. I'll start by saying--Nice guys, great technicians. I was also admiring that they are willing to run out to the street to deliver to people in the car outside (makes up for the heinous parking situation). This is not the place to go if you've never tailored something before. They offered me no advice on where to hem certain pants, BUT when I brought a friend with me to pick them up and they were a bit shorter than they "should have been," the tailor says to my friend "I was thinking he wouldn't want them that short." I wish you'd have said something! It was my first time, and I was BEGGING for advice. Another ish: I brought a two piece suit to be tailored here and was clearly doing everything to bring it all in--sleeves, waist, thigh, calf. I got it back and didn't realize until later that my sleeves weren't taken in. I called them a while later (i didn't realize they have a week policy) when I had more to be altered and asked if they'd take care of that free of charge...I think they didn't understand me through their broken english because they said "Sure" ...had I known they were indeed going to charge me, I wouldn't have gone back. I have taken several items here and the quality has been poor every time, but first the good. Prices are cheaper than most higher end tailors in LA (although I would say you get what you pay for), they are fast, customer service was good. Unfortunately, the good is not enough to make up for the bad. Their seams tend to not be straight and look sloppy. This is annoying enough but I have actually had to resew things they tailored for me after only a few days because the seam ripped out. I don't plan to go back. read more

Great prices and they do a great job ! Carlos did an absolute great job altering a suit jacket for me and taking out a few pants. I agree with a prior review. Men need to get suits tailored. A few sales clerks and one tailor told me I need to go up a suit size but that just made it look sloppy. For me personally it makes sense to get a suit that fits in the shoulders since I have a slimmer frame. The pants can be taken out and the suit jacket can be taken out too (or taken depending) I also like a slimmer cut which is where this tailor shop did a great job making me fit into my suit. They also hemmed 10 pants for me. I went in with a lot of pants at once and I actually appreciated that he was super fast. For my suit he knew exactly what to do and it looks great. Only cons are parking, you're lucky if you find a meter on the street or you'll have to walk a few blocks. Prices are about half of what my neighborhood shops would charge ! read more

My family has been going to Richard's for years and I'm sad to report that I experienced the worst customer service from Carlos last week. I will not be going back. I took a brand new skirt (worth $50 with the tags on) to Richard's because the waist was too big. The hip area fit perfectly. When I arrived to pick it up, I tried it on and the skirt wouldn't zip up. Turns out, instead of simply taking in the waist, they took in an inch in the hip area also. I understand that mistakes happen. What made me furious is that not once did Carlos apologize nor did he refund me the $20 I had paid him to alter it. Mind you now I am out $50 for the skirt, $20 for alterations and scrambling for a last minute outfit...all the while Carlos' only response is that he could refund me $10 or give me a free alteration the next time. Carlos's attitude blew it. He had too much pride to apologize and try to mediate the situation. An honest apology goes a long way to a loyal customer. read more
