I was a little worried to go here since the reviews but decided to go since it was so close to my place. After couple of alterations I can say I like this place. I have hemmed possibly 10 jeans/pants and can say that Kelly is good at her work! Like the other reviews she really gets the work done in a day or even less. She is fast and reliable. Yes she isn't the friendliest - but I didn't find that she was rude either. But truthfully the price is so fair I think it's reasonable. You have to be clear on what type of alternation you want - for example I brought a sample pants that I wanted all the others pants' length to be. The most sketchy place in Los Angeles that I have ever been to, but I love it. It's run by husband and wife. The wife can be a little fussy, but the husband is very nice. Use the sketchy stairs to go downstairs because the place is located on the first floor (suite #123) Dropped off my work pants on Sunday around 1pm and picked it up at 5pm on the same day. Quality was amazing and price was even more amazing. Single layer hemming costs $4.00 and double layer hemming costs $6.00. BRING CASH. The first time here we brought a handful of pants to be hemmed. My bf had a lot of dress/work pants that were a bit too long. After getting them back some were still too long so it was almost like they were never hemmed. Several years after we return with more pants to hem. This time they seemed proper length after. Takes her a day or two if you need them back right away. Very cheap and seems to get the job done (mostly). The woman that runs it may seem rough around the edges but I think she's just no nonsense but will hem your pantaloons as long as you're polite and clear with what you want. read more

Editing my review because of a few difficult experiences. I was a bit hesitant to post, but this will probably help someone else from having a hard time. A few things to keep in mind if you're going to this shop. - This lady doesn't speak English. When getting pants hemmed, there was miscommunication and my pants were cut shorter than I asked. Make sure you get your point across to exactly what you want. - This shop isn't always open during the hours posted. I've gone 2-3 times to either drop off or pick something up with the store closed early. Make sure you call to see if she's at the shop. It was pretty frustrating to know when I was able to pick up my clothes. For the most part, the stitching and alterations were done well, but don't look for stellar customer service. read more

Took a bridesmaid dress here to get the bottom hemmed. The dress had three layers, so she charged $25. I am very satisfied with how it came out! My friend who also got her dress hemmed here had a slight oddity where the hemming caused the dress to flare upwards (-1 star). I was able to pick up the dresses in a week. This place is cash only and the woman does not speak English. You can likely get by. My friend spoke Mandarin, luckily, so I didn't have issues. There is street parking available. read more

Torn... (I am, not my pants!) I'm torn about this place because it definitely has its strong points, but the finished products were mediocre. The good: FAST! Pants hemmed and jacket sleeves shortened in less than an hour! Also, a BARGAIN! Pants hemmed for $4, sleeves shortened (with lining) for $10! The bad: Cash only, and the woman who was working asked for the money before she started. Also, she showed a complete lack of interest in me as a customer. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she didn't crack a smile or say hello when I walked in...nada...and continued as such throughout our interactions. The ugly: the original hem on the pants wasn't used, even though I asked her and she said, "you want the same?"I said, "yes, please, can you use this?" Nope, I guess not. In addition, there are some areas on the cuff of the jacket where the seam is crooked now. I'm debating if it's appropriate for work any longer... So far I've taken my clothes here twice. The price is very very decent. I want to give them more stars I really do, the lady and I think her husband are very nice, but the work is not very well done, the stitching you can still really see it on some of my dresses and some string was still hanging off. Maybe I'm being picky. I recommend not taking something too expensive to alter. My favorite place is still the one in SF called Ma's. However, I would still continuing going here just because I'm petite and most of my clothes needs to be altered and it can get quite expensive. This place is great if you need something altered quickly and inexpensively. I needed a bridesmaid dress hemmed and they had the job done in less than 1 business day (dropped the dress off Saturday afternoon and was able to pick it up anytime on Monday.) The dress was three layers and only cost me $20. The other girls paid up to $85 to hem their dresses. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars was 1.) they don't give you a receipt so it's a bit odd when you return to pick up your clothes and 2.) there were a few loose threads and whatnot. I wasn't looking for impeccable quality for this dress, just good quality and was more concerned with a quick and affordable option. For the purposes of the wedding, no one was looking at the hem of my dress and I don't plan to wear it again. I took off one star bc she didn't complete my requests properly but she did alter four things for $20... she doesn't speak much English so it was hard to explain to her exactly what I wanted. she made a skirt smaller by just sewing the inside on a new fold and not cutting the actual skirt so it now looks sorta bulky on one side. Kelly was amazing and extremely affordable-- I had two sets of curtain panels that i wanted hemmed to match my current curtains. Her english was not great- yet she seemed to have no problem understanding my request for the curtains to match the sample i brought in. She charged me $10 total to hem both panels. ( I had previously refused a quote for $60 to do the same job) She told me to come back in two hours and pick up the curtains! I did- and the curtains were perfect! Absolutely great experience here. I was leaving town for an important trade show the next week and needed a Same Day alteration on 3 business shirts as of late Friday. My regular place could not accommodate me so I found this spot on Yelp. Called and Kelly said she could take on the project. I brought the shirts in and she took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and did an Awesome job in only a few hours. She wanted to charge me $4 per shirt ($12 total) but I thought that was low and gave her $20 total for the great work and the rush. She even took the time iron and fold my shirts! I saw another review where someone said the spot is "sketchy" - it's NOT, it's just China Town and it has it's own vibe. If you have been there a few times you know exactly what I mean. The location is 100% safe and surrounded by other vendors that all know each other and look after the spot. I would highly recommend on all counts! I was nervous about the quality given how cheap it is, but the hem looks exactly like the original stitching. It may be tough finding street parking since all the garages charge you a flat rate.
