I was so excited to find an honest dentist. The last dentist wanted $22,000 and said every one of my teeth had a cavity. Went to Dr. King and I only had one cavity. He was so gentle and excellent. That's the good news. Is for some reason the receptionist does not like me and she won't make another appointment for me. Best - honest - dentist in Austin, Texas. I spent a few hours searching online for the best dentist in Austin. I haven't been to the dentist in ages because, quite frankly, they scare me. My last dental experience was 10 ish years ago at a practice on S. Lamar and - no lie - during the examination they discussed extracting a few teeth, etc, etc...I was going in for a teeth cleaning. I literally got out of the dental chair while he was talking, excused myself politely, calmly paid my cleaning bill, never wrote a review - good or bad, and put the traumatizing experience behind me. It seemed like every dental practice had become invested in upselling their patients. I simply wanted to find an honest dentist who appeared to be practicing dentistry because it was their passion. Fast forward to present, I went today for my first appointment. First, Marysa (front desk), collected my insurance and was very professional and kind. Second, Gwen (my dental hygienist) was AMAZING and thorough. She has been with Dr. King for 20 years! I knew I was in the right dental practice when I heard this. She cleaned my teeth gently, no discomfort, and was very professional and kind throughout the process. Third, Dr. King (dentist), was knowledgeable, professional, discussed my issues with my teeth - we came up with a plan to address my issues. Not once was I upsold any services. The dental practice exceeded my expectations and I can finally say I have found my permanent dentist. They explain every x-ray and procedure beforehand, so you know exactly what to expect. When I had a chip in my tooth fixed, Dr. King repaired another nearby chip as well. This place is an insurance scam. I came here to look at having a crown and a filling done. The dentist told me I should crown the original tooth, and so it looked proper, probably the tooth next to it. I told him I couldn't do both at once due to insurance only covering one but suggested I come back after the first of the year for the second when my insurance resets. I was told by the dentist that he would speak to "the lab" and get back to me. After 2 week's I had no communication. I called and got there extremely rude receptionist. I was then told, by the receptionist, that "the lab" would only "allow" them to do 2 crowns at a time... Not one... I said I dont understand? You're forcing me to get the 2 crowns or you wont do any of the work? She replied " its the lab saying they'll only do two at a time and you had to get both." THIS MAKES NO SENSE. If I came in and only one crown was needed, you're going to tell me I'd have to get 2 because a lab told you so? I then told her that one of the teeth the doctor had looked at was giving me pain so can I come in and talk to the dentist about all of this while he looks at my tooth that is hurting me? She told me she could set an appointment 3 weeks from now.... Keep in mind, my tooth is throbbing. She then told me that maybe I should go to another dentist because it sounds like I might need it pulled or get a root canal and that the dentist there couldn't do that. WHAT? A dentist can't pull a tooth? I feel so scammed I feal sick. They charged my insurance over $400 for four x-rays and now I'm in pain and have to find another Dr with less coverage.. Dr. King is great! I just moved to Austin and had gone to one of the big corporate dentist practices who told me I had THREE cavities! My friend recommended Dr. King and so I called and he was kind enough to squeeze me in immediately and check me out. Dr. King's office is clean and welcoming and the staff are super friendly. Dr. King himself was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything. Turns out I didn't have any cavities and Dr. King didn't even charge me for the visit. Will definitely be booking all of my appointments here from now on. If I could give him 10 stars I would! I've been going to Dr. King for almost 30 years. I tell him every time I go in: You can NEVER RETIRE!! I honestly cannot imagine losing him as my dentist. He is so professional, runs a very efficient office (they have the best magazines but you never get a chance to read them because they don't make you wait!), friendly staff and top-notch dental care. My whole family has gone for years. Wonderful care. Best of all you know you are getting what you need and nothing else. They always work to make things right. Friendly staff. They are closed on Fridays but always ready to help if you are really in a jam even when they are closed. We have also appreciate when Dr. King has referred us out to specialists if something is outside the scope of what they do (a couple of specialized pediatric cases). Office is bright and clean. It's true that abbot has now made it optional rather than law despite the recommendation of escott and other health officials But as health professionals they should be following public health recommendations. I was exiled from my last dentist after he decided to make more money drilling ceramic teeth into people's skulls, and got out of the every-day dentistry business. After going to that office for years, I was both annoyed and traumatised at having to choose a new dentist. I truly lucked out by finding Dr. King's practice several years ago. Simply put, they are fantastic. Dr. King is kind and personable, and the office does a good job of making you feel at ease. What I really like about them is that they tell you what you need to know for your dental care without making you feel like you have the hygenic practices of a neanderthal. The level of respect and courtesy they display is always appreciated. And when it comes to dental work other than routine cleanings, the procedures are relatively painless. In fact, one of the best pieces of advice I ever received was from Dr. King's office: if you ever go on Survivor, bring floss. About one year ago Dr. King moved his practice one block south to a new location. The new office is really, really nice and comfortable. The waiting room actually feels cool and trendy, and is a nice departure from your typical medical waiting room decor of some Norman Rockwell paintings and horrifying testimonials about cancer. read more

This review for Dr. King and his office staff is long overdue. For the past 8 years I have routinely gone to Dr. King's office for cleanings and once had my teeth whitened. Over 20 visits later I can say I have never been disappointed. You will always find Dr. King with a smile on his face and he delivers great bedside manners! Dr. King's staff is always helpful and friendly. On that rare occasion I've had to cancel an appointment they were very helpful in re-scheduling me to another date. Gwen does a great job cleaning my teeth and thankfully I haven't had anything 'major' done on my teeth i.e. root canal. An added bonus is I don't get the "you need to floss more" lecture that others seem to get with their dentist. I have referred quite a few co-workers and my nephew who are just as happy. My nephew has had a few teeth pulled and a root canal done over the past few months. When I ask him how he feels after he replies "I never feel any pain during the procedure and they make sure I tell them if I ever do". Not bad coming from someone who would rather not take a flu shot because of the "pain" involved. I love Dr. King and his staff. My husband and I have been patients for almost ten years, and before that, I had minimal dental care. Because I had minimal dental care, there were a few initial visits that were mildly terrifying. Since then, I've been every six months. I think it's amazing that they remember me and my husband by name - every time. That may seem silly, but that is an added customer service star. Other bonuses include: they're nice people, they don't do extra things you don't need, and they'll refer you to an expert if they can't help (say - a gum graft! [yuck]). It's important that you know how much I hate going to the dentist. Deep seated, childhood-scars, lose-your-sh!t-anxiety kinda hate. I have seen Dr King for about 10 years. In those 10 years, I only had regular cleanings and a mouth guard made for grinding teeth. Recently, he redid an old filling fromchildhood becaue the tooth cracked around it. The one thing I truly like about their practice is absolutley no upselling. I hate upselling, and the only time it was ever mentioned was when I was getting married, the hygenist mentioned it, prefacing that some people want their teeth whitened for the wedding photos. She even felt slightly awkward when mentioning it. A buddy of mine went to a different place where they tried to upsell him every visit, and because he was a sucker for a pretty face, and it was all women everywhere, he always said yes. So it's nice to not always have to be concerned that I'm being sold services I don't need. The support staff are excellent, friendly, and always present a smiling face. It seems wierd to say, but it is a pleasure going there. Now that they have the new facilities, it also seems like you are going somewhere very upscale. Yet not a penny more to go. How sweet is that. As for the filling I recently had done, It was perfect. I could barely even see the filling, the color matched so well. Once the freezing wore off, the bite was perfect... important in a molar. Have been going to Dr. King since he started his practice as we were with his predecessor (Dr. Stubbs). Our entire office of roughly 35 people all go there and so do their family members. Our grown children still go there and in total we've been there almost 42 years (our entire married career). He has kept pace with good equipment, nice beautiful new office, and his staff are friendly and personable. He is a great dentist and just takes care of business. If you want any frills you must ask for it as he does not try to sell you on anything but annual checkups (and I only go every 4 years). Great dentist and will never change. read more

I went in this morning for a second opinion on a tooth that has been bothering me. 3 of my coworkers are patients here and had the best reviews of their experiences- people who do not like the dentist and have sensitive gums. After a couple bad experiences myself, I gave it a try. Turns out the 1st opinion of needing a crown and a possible root canal simply needed a filling. Dr. King did the filling immediately. There was no pain, no games, no extensive $10,000 plan that I'm used to. The office staff was great. The waiting area was nice and comfortable. It went from a $500 problem to a $80 solution.
