I had one good experience and one terrible experience which was handled very poorly. I would never go back.
I found the salon on Groupon and read reviews before trying out the keratin treatment. It was the best keratin treatment I had received and when I got an email a year or so later with a special, I purchased it again. I tipped on the original price of the treatment both times since I know people hate Groupon customers for being cheap. I was really just trying to find a good place to get keratin treatments regularly since my salon did not offer the treatment.
The second time I went in I was expecting to get the same great results. Unfortunately that didn't happen and I've been too afraid to even get a keratin treatment ever since.
Richard applied the product and was straightening my hair but he was distracted and was fiddling with the cord to his digital photo frame as I read a magazine. He made it to the very top layer of my hair, straightening small sections and sealing the product. Then I heard him gasp. I looked up from my magazine to see an orange streak in my black hair. It was the size and shape of the straightener. I also noticed strands of hair had fallen onto my shoulder and chest. Richard didn't say anything, just started sweeping my hair over the orange section as if to try to cover it up. I had to ask him "What happened?" for him to acknowledge it. He responded, "Ummm...I don't know. Your hair seems to have discolored." Richard raves about how he is an instructor and teaches others how to do this treatment. So I asked, "What would cause that to happen?" He then shifted the blame to me stating, "well sometimes if you use metallic dye this can happen..." I informed him that I get my hair colored in a salon by a professional. He shrugged. I said, "It looks like my hair melted," to which he condescendingly replied, "Hair doesn't melt." He slapped some black dye over the orange portion and said, "Well it doesn't look like it damaged the hair." Remember, you can' wash your hair for 3 days with a keratin treatment so I had black dye on my head for 3 days and couldn't really tell the extent of the damage but it was obvious that it was damaged. He simply didn't want to admit it. I didn't want to make a fuss since another lady had come into the salon at this point so I just left. When I finally got to wash my hair I saw that my hair had been severed about 2 inches from the root. I had an alfalfa look going on and anytime I would put my hair up the fried hairs would stand straight up. It took more than a year to grow out. I received an auto-generated survey from Richard after my treatment. I explained what had happened in the survey and he never even bothered to respond. But I still get his promotional emails.
I understand that mistakes happen and I may have even gone back to this salon had he admitted what he had done, apologized and offered to try to make it right. Even offering a deep conditioning for my fried and severed hair would have been a nice gesture but I get nothing but mass emails. Bad experience followed by terrible customer service and damage control. read more
