Along with their move, came some much needed upgrades. 6+ volleyball courts, separating nets, gym, turf training area, concessions, restrooms, matted flooring, seating, etc. Everything is just so much nicer than their old location. I'd say the only downside is no AC other than fans for when it's hot. If it's cold, wear a long sleeve and you'll be fine. Open gym is every Tues, Thurs, and Sun I believe. It used to be $5/person, but now it's $10/person. But I honestly don't mind the small price increase if it means this place stays in business for years to come. Covid has affected many small businesses so please to everyone in the Houston volleyball community, support Spike Sport. You can also rent a private court depending on availability for $55/hr. I'll definitely be back here soon!

I'm pretty sure everyone who plays sand volleyball in Houston knows what Third Court is…read more There is a parking lot, but most people end up just parking on the street past the courts due to overcrowding. $10 open play Friday nights (supposedly, first timers come in free, but I wasn't offered that - though I heard some other guys came in later on that did). There is a bar and a grill inside, with a very spacious covered area with different types of seating. 12 courts total. Middle two are men's doubles and women's doubles and the outside courts are meant for 4s. I wouldn't really recommend coming without a group and even if you have a group, you'll be waiting a while between games. It's pretty wild West in terms of who is next, pretty much have to walk up to a group and ask to play winner or if they have space. The skill level is very wide, but generally above average. If you have a designated group, it's more efficient to go reserve because you'll be waiting for open play courts. I think I got three games in for fours within two hours.

Yeah, it's not the same hit up smash mouth you were used to but then again you're not a teenager. A group of my friends and I signed up for this flag football league for the summer. It was a great way for my us to get back together and compete against other groups in a non-violent game. Don't get me wrong just because it's flag football, there's still the competitive nature to each and every game. The bragging rights still are on the table. It was $575 for each team, the season lasted 10 games + a single elimination playoff. Some weekends certain teams play double headers. I especially liked this league because they took stats. The stat categories included: passing, receiving, sacks, interceptions, rushing TDs, and even tackles. It's like REAL LIFE Fantasy Football. I only had tackle stats this season =( They also name player of the weeks and is posted on facebook for all of your friends to see. Also the winning team got tshirts and trophies. Too bad our team sucked it up. There's always next time... The next season starts, August 28th. Best part if you mention YELP, you get $15 bucks off registration, it's not much but a round of gatorade helps.

Have a lot potential to be a great alternative to HSP (Houston Sports League). However probably…read moreneed to do a better job marketing for more teams, HSP is at around 14-16 every season. Also HSP is almost 200 dollars cheaper. Not sure why the price difference when the fields Blitz uses are pretty bad, and the refs are suspect at best. With the amount of money each team has to front for registration I would expect these things to be better. First few weeks of the third season have been pretty disastrous with a last second rain out, and a cancellation due to "unexpected field construction." They should really look into just stepping up and paying the money to rent out better fields. Overall though still a good league, that is obviously in its infancy stages. Hopefully as league management gets more experienced at this type of thing the league will improve. It's worth a sign up in my opinion, assuming they will improve with experience. Seems like a smart group of guys so we'll see.

They do a decent job of scheduling, getting refs, providing lighted fields. This is a way for me to play flag football year round. Locations of the games vary. They can be at the Sportsplex way down southeast w/ $3 gate fee (that gives you a token for a beer or drink). At Quillian which is by Beltway8 and Westpark. Or at various city parks around the town like Lawrence, Love, Springwoods Park, etc. It isn't that bad to register an entire team and split the cost. A good way to blow off some steam after work.

Parking was 10.00 and the garage was very well laid out and made it easy to find a spot. The layout of the area is good. Easy to grab drinks, hit the restrooms or grab some tee-shirts. Drinks are typically expensive, so just be prepared. We sat in GA, in the upper deck. Great area to really see what's going on. Loved the enthusiasm from all the players and announcers. Everyone really seemed to love the game and be enjoying themselves. We enjoyed the game, though it was pretty late for the little ones, so we only saw one. Still didn't understand the scoring and what was really going on, but kinda got the gist of it by the end. Overall it was a fun night out and we'd do it again.

I was expecting the more old school rink, oval boxing ring shape that slopes inward but this one is like mini ice rink... with no ice of course. Tickets were $12, they serve food, drinks, alcohol if you wish, checking your ID at the front and giving you the appropriate wrist bands. It's first come first serve seating on the outside of the rink. There were audience members sitting on the floor on the actual rink on either side. Not sure if those are special price tickets or VIP only. You can even sit on the floor right in front of the glass which is what we both did because I was there on photo assignment for my class and didn't want many head in the way. They had no objections on bringing in long SLR lenses and cameras. They actually like it because Roller Derby isn't that mainstream and they want more pictures and advertisement. So if you like taking pictures this place is cool! My bf and I arrived a little late. We thought it started at 7:30 but it actually started a 7pm. Therefore it was hard to find parking because their lot was full (semi small lot for the amount of people) and we had to park in the shopping center nearby and walk in. We actually followed one of the Roller Derby girls who was playing in one of the games later on. You have to walk far down to the entrance door. Luckily we had her to follow otherwise we may have been confused on which door to go through. The games were pretty cool, we got really into it. I love their nicknames and the way that they dress, it's fun and different. I'm all about the Non-cookie cutter styled places. So refreshing and far away from a yawn.
