Taqueria El Cazador - Enchiladas... Served more like tacos (open face), but delicious

Magnifico. Beautiful…read more Colorful. Get the real deal. Get a tall boy Coke without all that high corn fructose syrup, like that real sugar. Get 4 tacos for $5. Get lengua tacos & learn the native tongue. Everything is tasty. I love the pickled carrots & jalapeños. To me it's more authentic for the price point. Similar chain establishments will cover everything with nacho cheese & call it TexMex, this isn't that truck. And we are glad.

(From October, 2025)…read more Taco Tuesday in early October in Lafayette means yelping around which brings me to this truck. Right off of the Ambassador Caffery Parkway, it used to be called the El Taqueria Louisiana Dollar #2 or something like that. I guess it's now renamed as El Cazador. Inflation unfortunately brings the pricing up pretty high which is $3.50 per taco. I used to read that it was 4 tacos for $5 back before COVID effed everything up. I had reservations about if I wanted to order here but the smells had me hooked so I did 5 tacos mix of barbacoa, cabeza, carnitas x2, and asada. The lady in the truck was super sweet and the food got to me quickly. Upon unwrapping and eating everything in the hotel room, I like how everything was packaged and they threw in grilled onions, and a serrano pepper for spice. The tacos tasted good; juicy meats with onions/cilantro accompanying it. While I'm not thrilled about the price charged, I can't complain too much as the taste is there. Cash only FYI. Maybe there is somewhat of a decent taco game in Louisiana!

This review is for one dish and one dish only - the Chiles Cobijados…read more They stuff jalapeños with cheese, wrap it in bacon and get it perfect every single time. The bacon is deliciously crispy without being greasy at all. The cheese is a perfect combination of melty and hot without being gooey. The jalapeño is soft but not soggy- has a tiny bit of crunch! The portion of the bean dip/spread? With chips is just what you need without going overboard. I will say this is my hyper obsession meal because I know I can only get it here. There isn't any other place in town that I have found that serves this exact same dish. The plate comes with three of them, rice, salad, beans+chips. If you're there for anything else and want to try one chile they will let you add it to your entree.

Large menu with a variety of options, I have the tacos , which came with beans and rice, the beans were nice and the rice held its own, the other dish had fried chicken, this was a first for me coming from Mexican food, and was surprised by the flavor which was great, the only thing was the coleslaw I would like on the side, so it doesn't take away the crunchy chicken other then that great, just get the slaw on the side and you have something special that goes well with the fried plantains. Very friendly service, and they have their own flair.

Thankfully for my belly, I am not down the street from Laffy or I would be here every week…read more This place reminds me of another popular Louisiana bbq place doing Texas style but with more open days. Don't get it twisted, the hours are still limited but I can see why. With the constant line they had from opening til I walked out, I am sure they don't have a lot left toward the end of lunch. The brisket was the example of tender and worth the upcharge. We got the dr.pepper sticky ribs and also worth the upcharge. Typing this makes me hungry again. The only thing was the sides were ok but we're here for bbq so that didn't lower my score.

"How good can strip mall BBQ be?" was my initial thought but the line of 10 people waiting to get in that early eased my thinking. To answer my own question, strip mall BBQ can apparently be great! I got a 2-meat plate with the brisket, Dr Pepper glazed sticky ribs, green chili corn casserole and smokey beans. As you are ordering the brisket they ask if you want it sliced or chopped, and if you want lean, fatty or burnt ends. I knew it would be good then. The lean brisket was solid, a little peppery on the bark. I'd have liked it to be a little smokier and the bark a little more flavorful but that's the only complaint you will get in this review. The Dr Pepper sticky ribs were phenomenal! Sweet, smokey dessert like meaty goodness. It was almost pornographic what I did to those bones. The smokey beans lived up to that name for sure and the green chili corn casserole was unique and delicious. This is a definitely a place I will repeat when I am back in Lafayette.

I must state that I decided to try this truck on a Friday during lent time, so therefore I had to…read moreeat something that was not meat.. I was really devastated.. I barely get to catch this food truck, and I did not get to try the other mouthwatering menu items.. so this review is based on one item, until I try the other items, I had the following: - Louisiana Grilled Shrimp, Caesar Salad, on a Spinach Wrap: the grilled shrimp was cooked perfect, and the wrap was good, just a little too light for me I can't wait to catch this truck again, and try his other items. ***So I came back to try this place again, and had their award winning pull pork sandwich. I now believe that it is an award winning sandwich. This sandwich was packed with so much flavor and quality, probably one of the best pull pork I ever hard. So moist and flavorful, I just want another one right now!

My mission is to try all the food trucks in Lafayette at least once; so today I stopped at…read moreChef Gregory's which was parked across from Brothers on Johnston with a few other food trucks. Perfect! I basically went eenie, meenie , miney , mo and picked Chef Gregory's Food Truck. The "Kick Ass Shrimp" sandwich caught my eye, although at $12.00 with no side item; it seemed kind of pricey. But, what the heck ... if it was good, it would be money well spent - right? Well, yes and no. The six shrimp were cooked very nicely, although I had to remove them from the sandwich in order to not eat the tails. It was the bottom bread swimming in grease and loads of garlic that was so disappointing. You could literally wring out the bread; instead, I just didn't eat it. For six shrimp and a top layer of bread, it was not worth $12.00. I bought a Diet Coke and that brought the total to $14.50. Sorry, Chef Gregory, but a food truck is not fine dining.
