This review is for one dish and one dish only - the Chiles Cobijados. They stuff jalapeños with cheese, wrap it in bacon and get it perfect every single time. The bacon is deliciously crispy without being greasy at all. The cheese is a perfect combination of melty and hot without being gooey. The jalapeño is soft but not soggy- has a tiny bit of crunch! The portion of the bean dip/spread? With chips is just what you need without going overboard. I will say this is my hyper obsession meal because I know I can only get it here. I was fortunate enough to find this location by accident, they have a nice seating area, and also has take out with a drive through. Large menu with a variety of options, I have the tacos , which came with beans and rice, the beans were nice and the rice held its own, the other dish had fried chicken, this was a first for me coming from Mexican food, and was surprised by the flavor which was great, the only thing was the coleslaw I would like on the side, so it doesn't take away the crunchy chicken other then that great, just get the slaw on the side and you have something special that goes well with the fried plantains. La Papa Loca was at one time a food truck but they became so popular that they had to open their own restaurant. It's on a busy intersection (who am I really kidding? Every intersection in this town is busy) so be on the look out for it on the corner of Georgette and Eraste Landry Road next to a little print shop. Keep in mind parking is sparse and it stays crowded, so calling ahead or even using Waitr or Door Dash could save you a headache. Despite the things that aren't so great about La Papa Loca, the food MORE than makes up for it. The portions are ginormous-easily shareable between two or three people and best of all, affordable! So far I've sampled: Tacos Dorados-chicken tacos with lettuce, avocado, pico de gallo, cheese and cream. Comes 5 to an order and these are unique and very good. Asado Burrito-easily my favorite. The beef has been slow cooked and shredded and it's flavorful and delicious. Needs no sauce whatsoever but their hot sauce compliments it perfectly. Note-this hot sauce is not your mama's hot sauce. It's the creep up on you kind of sauce that burns your lips and tongue long after it's gone. Ask for it. It's a crazy looking orange sauce. You have been warned. Al Pastor Tostado served with lettuce, beans, pico de gallo, chesse and cream. The meat in this one again had a very good, slow cooked flavor. Don't wait!! Go give La Papa Loco a try! read more

Pork tamales are spicy and flavorful because of the banana leaves the mass has a different texture than Mexican tamales but I really like the flavor that the banana leaves give. The lengua tacos were excellent you could actually taste the tongue it was juicy and tender not over cooked. This is the most authentic Spanish food from a restaurant I've had in Lafayette! I'm from New Orleans and my family is Honduran and I know good food when I taste it! This will be a must when I come in town. I thought looked sketchy from outside because not too many cars and not typically lit up as I'm used to seeing in Latin restaurants ....inside I found many tables to accommodate large groups, a busy kitchen with phone frequently ringing, people picking up to go orders and others dining ...the food was so delicious...Can't say enough!
