I cannot give this location any stars because the place is not deserving of not even one! The first clue should have been when entering the establishment, there were not any tables, just 2 chairs. There was also no one inside. The food portion was very small for $11.99 per plate. The quality was terrible the chicken, what chicken, there was hardly any chicken on the plate and the sauce was extremely salty. The rice was supposed to be fried rice but it just looks like instant rice with coloring. There were no vegetables or eggs in the rice. I could not understand how this establishment shows as a 4.6 rating. read more

They're not open between 2 and 4 PM, which of course was the time I usually stopped by, so I can't get there as often as I'd like to now, but when I do, it's always wonderful! This was the last Chinese restaurant I had not tried in the area! I guess you save the worst for last?! The owner is super nice, friendly as can be. There's probably 8-10 tables inside so it is descent size. I was dissatisfied with my Beef with Broccoli. Typically it is fried with oyster sauce as the main ingredient, I just felt like my beef was simmered because there was too much sauce and it lacked the fried taste. I was surprised it also had carrots and chestnuts in this dish. Overall the potential was there, the sauce was good though. My fried rice was ok, the portion is humongous but it does lack flavor and has an orangey color to it. This place also has seafood, so that is a pleasant surprise. With so many Chinese restaurants in the area, I'd like to come back and try the seafood someday. read more

Don't let the horrific color scheme of the building deter you. It is a decent place to pick up some Chinese food. I agree wuth previous posts that the people who run this fast food oriental/seafood stop are very cordial. I can't say that the food blew me away, but it was as good as I expected...maybe a slight better. I wasn't sure if I wanted sweet or savory so I ordered two different combo specials and which ever I liked the least, I would save for lunch the next day. The shrimp lomein won as favorite leaving the orange chicken for later. The dining area isn't very big and I noticed they brought food to dine in customers (no waiting for a number to be yelled out) They have a seafood selection that I jusy may have to try next visit. read more

Great food especially considering the price. Staff was cheerful and super helpful. We got the sweet and sour chicken, it was super fresh and tasty. The eggroll was a bit mediocre, but the crab Rangoon was great. If I'm being picky, The exterior of their location could be cleaned up a bit to make it more inviting. read more

New to the area and disappointed with the closer Chinese food options. Rice Box currently only does take out, and has a "limit menu". They had a nice selection, the woman at the counter outlined the sizes and what's included.(very helpful) We decided on the Crab Rangoon which were larger than what I'm accustomed, the Braised Chicken with spicy brown sauce. Also ordered the Chicken Lo Mein. Both combination meals included egg rolls and rice. It was very satisfying to finally find great Chinese food at a reasonable price. A-OK Americanized Chinese food in the South End. It tastes like most of the other Chinese places in the area but I think that their crab rangoon stood out purely because of it's large size. Their egg rolls were definitely not my favorite but I can't really pinpoint why. I'm sure will return to try the seafood but I won't make a special stop for it. read more

Like a lot of other reviews, this place is good, but not super special. The owners are super friendly and the portions are reasonable. Their crab rangoon is huge, and my general Zhou chicken was on the sweet and spicy side. Again, worth a visit, but don't go out of your way. read more

I've been a customer since this place was the seafood place, so I already knew I loved their seafood (the clam strips are my favorite.) I've been here twice since it's been the Rice Box, and both times I've gotten sesame chicken, which is delicious. Maybe a bit too on the sweet side, but I can deal with that by putting sriracha on it. Only drawback, I do not like their rice. It's got a strange chemical taste to it. But you can sub rice for lomein noodles, which are super yummy. The owners are also super friendly and sweet. read more

A for service and reasonable prices. I truly like the chicken tenders lunch soecial with yum yum sauce. I would also recommend their fried dumplings. This places been open for numerous years they were previously located on old 3rd street called China castle they are no longer and now at this location on south side drive. I never had issues with their food and service is very very quick. Love the egg rolls rice and crab rangoon. read more

Yum! The orange chicken is so good. I would love it more if the chicken wasn't the same as the sweet and sour chicken. The crab rangoons are delicious!, not too sweet. And the YUM YUM sauce!!! Best I've tasted in Louisville. I agree that the staff is very nice and pleasant. read more

This is what I'd like to call a one hit wonder, because that sounded like a clever way to say you'll only go there once. No hit here, though, not even one. Wow. I'm a fan of ghetto Chinese food, but this was just terrible. I had hunan vegetables, which was mostly bok choy and cabbage floating around in a sort of hot soy sauce (I don't know how to describe it. Hot, but no flavor. Well, unless you count salt. Someone dumped a salt shaker into a vat of soy sauce and chili oil). Add to that the weirdest fried rice I've ever put in my mouth and you get a big "I won't ever be back." It was orange, and had a coca cola aftertaste- - how? And more pressingly, why?! Why?! Ugh. My stomach hurts now. You don't know until you try. I tried. Let me save you the trouble. I made my first trip here on 10/08/16 and tried the Mongolian beef and crab rangoons. The Mongolian beef wasn't to my liking, something about the flavor....the fried rice was good and had chunks of yummy chicken in it, and the eggroll and crab rangoons were on point. So I am definitely going to give this place another shot and I plan on updating the review once I do so....I will be trying something other than the Mongolian beef and I suggest you do too. read more

The previous owners of China Castle moved to this restaurant! The food at the Rice Box is as good as ever. They have fast service, it's clean, and they have the most amazingly friendly staff! And, again, literally the BEST chinese food I have ever had in Louisville!! Now that I know the Rice Box is here, I'll never eat at any another chinese place again. read more

I made my first trip here with my girlfriend a few days ago. It's nothing special. The parking lot is rather small, and the restaurant was empty when we arrived and for the duration of the time we ate. Kinda awkward. If you have a craving for Chinese food and know of no other options, this may check the box. I've certainly had better. This was my first time going to Rice Box, as soon as I entered the kind woman at the front greeted me kindly and was more than helpful in assisting me. She immediately recognized me as Muslim perhaps because of my beard and informed me that the eggrolls have pork in them and proceeded to notify me of a few other dishes I could not eat. I really appreciated her efforts in helping me in my first time experience, I will definitely be back to Rice Box! read more

I have been looking forward to them opening because of its convenience to my office. Five of us stopped in for lunch this week. I believe everyone got something different -- no complaints from anyone. We had a very good experience. I am a big fan of the General and it was nicely prepared. Fresh, hot, good size portions with an roll -- around $7 was a bargain. Friendly staff. We will definitely return. read more
