Very disappointed! California rolls were more than half cucumber with very little seafood. The tofu had hard peas that tasted very old and there was hardly any pork. Finally got Maggie the owner to come out, she apologized for the peas but did not seem to care about our other concerns despite being frequent long-term customers. Went here with my mom in law, it's look small from the outside but it's pretty good size with so many tables, and it was busy during lunch hours, service a lil bit slow but the food was good and big portions, their soup so far better and tastier than any other Chinese restaurant, and cheaper which is good, I ordered a asparagus with shrimp and has a good flavor and good sauce I just wishes they will put more sauce. The food is great. So fresh and flavorful. There are two reasons why I didn't give Rice Box five stars. One, the decor is way over the top, kind of random, and a little distracting. The other reason is that if you spend more than one minute inside, you will come out smelling like a giant, stinking fart. It is serious business. Your hair, your clothes, your skin... it absorbs the smell like a sponge. I don't fault them for it, it probably just comes with the territory, but still. I ate here once and then went to class. As soon as I walked in the door the professor asked, "Umm... what did you have for dinner?" I always get the hibachi with vegetables. The hibachi sauce, which is AMAZING, is hard to find at most take-out Japanese places. It's a thick, slightly pink sauce that hugs the rice and vegetables like a warm, creamy blankie and coats the inside of your throat like a hug from the Buddha. Way better than Wok and Roll, which used to be my go-to when I needed an Asian fix. No more. And the prices!! Hibachi with vegetables and an appetizer of cream cheese wontons = less than $9. Amazing food... just get it to-go unless you want to smell like the inside of a dead animal. read more

We've been seeing the 'Coming Soon' sign for Rice Box for a month or two, and just noticed that they're now open. My wife stopped in to grab a menu, and immediate picked me up from work and went there for dinner with the kids. They're menu looked GREAT! Everything you can think of in Asian Cuisine. Chinese, sushi hibachi, teriyaki and more. I immediately thought I'd get the teriyaki chicken since I haven't had any since we moved from Seattle over a year ago. I love some good teriyaki, and Seattle had some great placed to get it. I didn't try the teriyaki (but will next time I go). What I did get was the Mongolian Beef. SO FLAVORFUL! I really enjoyed the dish. We got an appetizer of pot stickers to start, and they were clearly hand rolled and super delicious. My wife got their Orange Chicken, and was nice enough to let me have a taste. Also amazing! You can really taste the orange flavor (unlike most places that serve it). There were even pieces of orange peel cooked in the sauce. The girls split the Honey Sesame Chicken which was a big hit with them. Another perk was free refills on the drinks. Most good Chinese places in Seattle don't offer that for some reason. I can't say enough good things about our first visit to Rice Box. We have found our new favorite place in the Shoals! read more

Definitely a fan of this place. I went on a night that was really busy and when an establishment is busy like that you know the food has to be good. I ordered beef and broccoli and General TSO's chicken. The Tso's chicken was VERY good and I would definitely like to have it again. The beef and broccoli was was OK. Nothing special. Good American-Chinese food at a great price. Went with a friend and started with the House Soup For Two. A lot of delicious soup for only $3.99. I would consider ordering that by itself as take out for a light dinner. I had Triple Combo in Brown Sauce (Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp with vegetables) and fried rice while my friend had Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. Both were excellent and generous portions. While the food is cheap and very college friendly, I wouldn't recommend. Service is not good, I pulled out my phone charger one time because it was taking so long for someone to greet our table that we ended up just leaving. A large number of people I know that have gotten food poisoning from Rice Box over the years of living in Florence. Rice Box is the absolute best. The hibatchi is just as good if not better than Umi yet much, much more inexpensive. In fact, my wife and I can each order an appetizer with our meal at Rice Box and still come out cheaper (our meal ticket usually runs less than $40 at Rice Box where we get less food at Umi and it's often around $70 or more) My wife and I have eaten here five times now and have yet to have a negative experience. Go to Chinese take out restaurant in the area for most locals. The food is always hot and fresh. Recently ordered over the phone and picked up Togo order and didn't check the order before leaving int to discover they have revised their menu and some of the combo numbers have changed. They offered a future credit for the mishap which was very kind of them. Will continue to be our local spot for Chinese. read more

Given the small space and limited number of tables I can easily see this place being crowded easy. The atmosphere was nice but I must admit the little child running around the place (apparently a member of one of the staff's family) irked me but subsided when he approached me & we spoke about the fish in the aquarium. Egg Foo Young (which was a favorite of mine @ the once, great Peking Rest., May You Rest In Peace) & Rainbow rolls. Nice portions of rice and entre and the egg foo young was delicious (not greasy like @ Peking, which I loved). I opted for fried rice with the meal which was o.k. No vegetables were in it, just rice but I'm suspecting that I were to order the fried rice as a meal the contents will be different. Overall, it was good. I must admit it has easily surpassed any Asian restaurants within the area but selection of sushi rolls are not even in comparison with Ichiban in Sheffield ( "Japanese" *flavor* restaurant). read more

We eat here for the first time last week. I read the Yelp reviews and took note that in spite of some negatives, it otherwise was a solid place to eat. We arrived and were promptly seated. I ordered the Hibachi combo and wife had the General Tso's Chicken. Both meals were good but my chicken was way overdone. Ended up picking half of it out. I made a mental note to not order chicken with beef again since cooking times differ. We had a to go order a couple days back. Very hot and it was good. But, the chicken was a bit overdone again. Portions were great. But, the bad thing is this place doesn't look very clean. The menus look about 3 years past their life and the restaurant looks grungy. Just left after trying to pick up to go order they say was given to someone else. Observing her reaction, it seems forgetting it or losing it was the most likely scenario. If there's a better Chinese restaurant in the state, i'd love to hear what it is. Rice Box fits my general requirements for exceptional fare: locally owned owner is the chef owner's usually in the kitchen clearly take pride in their "product", and consistently thru the years provide exceptional recipes, sauces, meals at lunch and dinner. Speaking of sauces, Jason insists on making them all himself, just before closing, the night before - and it shows. We are in the car, headed to Huntsville after hearing they just opened a second location there. My mouth is watering thinking about what we'll start with - Their amazing home-made dumplings (pot stickers) (if they have same menu) is where we'll begin. The second it was as though left over fried Chechen was used. This time there was so much sauce on the chicken it was soaked. It was very sweet. I could not eat it. This restaurant is a mixed Asian Cuisine place that serves everything from General Tso's Chicken to Sushi. Most places that serve Chinese Food I would shudder at the thought of eating their sushi. However, the Rice Box has very good sushi and other meals to boot. They have recently expanded as well offering a small sushi bar in the restaurant and more seating space. They did this very quickly ( and must have had to because of how popular they are ). With a very neat Asian inspired atmosphere, great food, and quick service this restaurant deserves to be tried. On a whim I decided to spend a night in Florence, AL for fun and the Rice Box was one of the few restaurants in the area that was budget-friendly as well as veggie-friendly. (All I'm gonna say is that Florence is FULL of steakhouses.) If I'm not mistaken, the Rice Box is a chain, but it's a really cute place with a nice ambiance and low lighting, and super-sweet employees. They had a wonderful selection of healthy meals, so I ordered the General Tso's tofu with brown rice, with a seaweed salad and spring roll on the side. I was impressed with the freshness of the seaweed salad and I certainly got a large portion for the price of $3.95. The spring rolls were crisp and obviously freshly made - not sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Then my main entree came and I was just blown away. I'm normally not a fan of tofu, but I love the way they prepared it: sort of cripsy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce was perfect as well! For a inexpensive, chain Chinese food restaurant, the Rice Box is seriously amazing and defied my expectation. If I'm ever in Florence again, I'll certainly be going back! read more

Rice Box is the best! I've never had anything bad, but my go-to dish is definitely the Hibachi. The hibachi rice is different than the regular fried rice as it's more sticky and so delicious with the hibachi sauce that comes with it. The veggies in the hibachi dish are large & fresh - zucchini, mushrooms, onions, & broccoli. My second favorite is the coconut chicken. It's like the sweet & sour chicken in a coconut sauce. It's not soggy or too sweet, either. The chicken still has a crispy-ness to it and the coconut sauce is soooo good. Their lettuce wraps taste just like the ones from PF Chang's, but much better priced. read more

Ordered Mongolian beef and fried rice. I got a lot of Mongolian beef with a LOT of sauce (maybe too much) but not enough rice. I was charged for extra rice.
