Pleasantly surprised with the quality of sushi. My daughter had orientation at UT and we where starving when it was over. One of the college kids recommended Rice BLVD. now normally college kids think all food is good when on a budget, but she was absolutely on point. Sushi was fresh and the rolls are good size. We shared a rice bowl with grilled chicken and garlic sauce. The dish was piping hot and stayed hot long after we couldn't fit another bite in. Great flavor, fresh ingredients that you could taste. Only thing I thought was weird was the egg on top over east. I scooped that out before digging in. Raw egg-gross. When visiting my daughter in college I will definitely stop here to eat. read more

I am writing a review based on my experience of this place and being there for the first time . I called to place my order and arrived there about 10-15 minutes , I paid for my order but didn't receive any receipt and clerk told me that she would bring my food when it's ready , atmosphere was chill, but workers were giving me unusual looks but I didn't mind it but was bothered . My order was not that big so I thought the wait time would be slow , I know it was busy but people arrived and ordered after me and got their orders before me , I waited a whole hour for my order . A whole hour . About 1hr10minutes I go up and ask what's taking so long , and they said we didn't know you had an order , I said I paid up front and called in to place an order an hour ago ,she gave me an attitude like I knew I was supposed to keep my receipt when they call out your number when I was never received one . My order was ready 10 minutes ago . I'm sorry but no customer should be treated like this and wait that long and feel judged . This place is excellent for what it delivers as a meal. There's a uniqueness about this place in the way you walk up and place your order, pay, and don't tip. Sometimes when I'm out to eat, I want to have a nice meal, but I also don't want to have to sit around and wait for a check when I'm done. To be able to do that at a sushi restaurant is really great. The prices also are really reasonable. You get can a bento box just under ten dollars. I've never been anywhere else where it is less than sixteen, so when I saw that on the menu I was really pleased. Speaking of bento boxes, this is the first time I've ever been at a Japanese sushi restaurant and the meat has been deliciously flavored and actually MOIST. I'm a big fan of sushi, but now and then I want to get one of those fun compartmentalized boxes and the teriyaki chicken and also the panko chicken have every time been perfectly cooked. The service is very fast too. It's a smaller restaurant, but with the size they sure know how to roll out the sushi without the wait. The sushi itself is very simple and uncomplicated. When you walk up, you'll actually have pictures on the wall showing you each one with the price and ingredients, making it easy to decide. I recommend though, checking their website so you can be familiar with their choices. I haven't had the stone bowl bi bim bap but whenever I venture into the restaurant, someone is always having it brought to their table in a sizzling earthen bowl. Next time, I always tell myself, once I tear myself away from the sushi. While we're at it, nicest work staff around. They WILL remember your name, and they are always pleasant and asking how your meal is, not in a robotic way, but to imply they actually do care about your satisfaction. Lastly, really clean restaurant, and the style is so nice and bright and relaxed. I always enjoy what they have playing on the radio, it totally compliments my visit. Love, love, love this place. I've never received a bad meal and every item on the menu sounds amazing. It's been around for a few years now and still receives a hefty crowd during normal lunch hours. It's right on campus so be strategic on the time you arrive or be prepared to wait in line for a seat in their small storefront. The customer service is flawless and they can recommend new items to try. I usually get the yakisoba, a variety of sushi choices, or the chicken bento box. They're portion sizes are perfect and they do take out so you can stop by to get something on your lunch break. We, like many reviewers of Rice Blvd, are refugees from DOMO, and finally decided to give this little place a try. The interior is clean, sleek, and modern. I'm not much of a sushi guy, so the bulk of this review is from my partner's perspective. They could probably serve me Meow Mix wrapped in rice* and I would douse it in soy sauce and wasabi and enjoy it. Rice Blvd. offers over 30 different rolls in addition to Bento boxes and rice bowls. We started with the JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken). Neither one of us much cared for it. My dining companion thought the tiny pieces of fried chicken tasted like Chicl-Fil-A. We both liked the dipping sauce but we were puzzled as to why so many people seemed to mention the JFC in their reviews. Maybe it was an off day for it? Maybe just us? Who knows. We're in the minority here, clearly, so don't let us stop you. Now, on to the rolls: we ordered the Philadelphia, Eel Avocado, and the Spicy Crunchy Crab. The Philly and the Eel are my partner's "go to" rolls and we were here primarily to satisfy his sushi craving. While he said the rolls were a little on the small side, he said that the eel was the best he has had in Toledo and elsewhere. We both enjoyed all three rolls. I got picked the Crunchy Crab and it was great -- served nice and warm. We barely finished all of the sushi. Two drinks, three rolls, and an appetizer for $29.00 is more than reasonable. On top of that, the staff refuses tips. There is a sign for it. I asked about it but got no further than a simple "those are the rules." Good sushi in Toledo has been hard to come by since DOMO closed. Fret no more. Rice Blvd is bringing that good good back to town. Koto Buki is good for nigiri, but other than that Toledo doesn't have much to offer. Rice Blvd is making some very fresh, inexpensive and inventive rolls. The decor is simple and elegant. White walls with white tables and minimal clutter. The music is a bit odd but it's ok. They seem to be constantly playing soundtracks from films like forest gump. The service is quite good. They have a few very friendly front of house staff that will provide you with whatever you need. Order at the front counter and take a seat. They will bring you your food when it is ready. You should be relatively familiar with the sushi chef. He used to work at Koto Buki and Kyoto Ka. Apparently he didn't like what those restaurants were doing so he broke off to open his own restaurant. ***The Food*** I rarely order rolls at japanese restaurants but rice blvd does such a nice job that now it's all I order when I go there. Everything is well assembled. The avocado is fresh and creamy. The eel is cooked with care. Everything is on point. The Japanese Fried Chicken is a must order for your appetizer. The chef also makes me a ponzu/yuzu sauce that I sub for soy sauce. It's great. My dad got a bento box that looked amazing and he was very pleased. This place isn't just the best sushi restaurant in town it might be one of the best restaurants in town. Simple, cheap and delicious. Definitely deserves a vist. read more

I probably shouldn't write a good review because that means you'll go there too and once again I'll have a hard time getting a seat. :) Seriously, it's really a great place. I do wish it was bigger. It seems to always be busy. Even at 7 we (family of 3) could not get a table, BUT it wasn't long of a wait and it was truly worth it. My son got a fried salmon roll that was fantastic. My husband got a bento box of goodies that he loved. I had bibimbap which, if you see my other reviews, is clearly an addiction of mine. I even make it at home authentic style so I am a bit of a bibimbap snob. This meal did not disappoint. I will definitely be ordering this again. I really wanted some bon chon side dishes but this place is run more like a Japanese sushi joint even though, like most sushi joints in Toledo, it is run by Koreans. This American ahjumma was ok with that because all of the food is really yummy. Best of all, I get to report that the prices are very reasonable and the ingredients are fresh. I've been here twice now and the workers are always very kind and helpful. I look forward to going back. There was one single downside to this experience and it is not the restaurant's fault. Both times that I went there, I sat next to very loud people. Two young women were right across from each other at a small table next to us yelling about classes as if they were half a football field apart. I wanted to scream: INSIDE VOICES PLEASE. I really want to defend America when other countries call us loud but what can I say, they are right. People are NOT as aware or polite about this as they should be. I had my doubts about ever finding good sushi in the Midwest. While Rice Blvd isn't great, it is certainly acceptable. My wife and I ordered miso soup and three rolls, a basic tuna and two specials, the Holy Toledo and the Ruby. The Ruby was good including spicy crab that was the right spicy and tuna that was fresh. The Holy Toledo included shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy tuna and some kind of sauce on top. It was not particularly flavorful, but it wasn't bad. The basic tuna roll was super basic, looking like convenience store sushi, though tasting better. The miso soup may best summarize the food. It was fine. It had all the right ingredients. Nothing in it tasted bad. But it just did not sing. Japanese food is one of my favorites and this was not an exciting meal. It got the job done. The menu is a little small with no sashimi and only rolls available. The prices are very average for sushi with basic rolls running around $4-6 and special ones around $10. The service was friendly and helpful and the decor had a bright clean feeling. There is nothing bad about Rice Blvd and a few things are good, but nothing was great. read more

This has got to be one of my favorite restaurants ever. Very small inside with an intimate feel. It gets very crowded when the lunch and dinner rush comes through, but it is definitely worth the wait. A great variety of sushi for a place so small; over 35 different kinds including smaller rolls and tempuras. The owner makes the sushi himself right behind the counter. They have a carry out option but for trying this place for the first time I definitely don't recommend that, dine in to get the best crunch on your tempuras and panko dishes. By the time you get it home it's cooled and just not the same, even though it's usually still just as delicious. My friends and I love Japanese food and have been coming here since it opened a few years ago. The staff is always accommodating and friendly and I've never left hungry when ordering a large roll and a traditional dish. In my opinion there isn't any place besides here that has the best sushi in town, even for the price. If you want to go to Nagoya in Perrysburg and spend $50 on two rolls of sushi just as good as here that's cool but for $15 I can get a large tempura roll, panko chicken, rice and vegetables and be stuffed!! Also, as a side note, there are dozens of Asian international students from the university that come to eat here on a daily basis. Just a hint that the food is authentic! read more

I have never had a bad experience here. The food is very very reasonably priced and is very very good. There's nothing bad that you could possibly order from their menu. It's a shame they removed ramen from their menu but I understand their reason and it's a very impressive reason. I was told that the reason they no longer server ramen is because it was the only food item on their menu that they didn't make themselves. Me and my partner come here once or twice a week. Always good food. There's been a few mishaps but nothing off putting. One time we ordered an appetizer of croquettes with our to-go order and we didn't get it. Last week we both got bento boxes and got peas instead of shumi. They take a long time to make the food but that's understandable since they are always busy. One time a female employee was flirting with my boyfriend while I was sitting at our table and she knew I was there. But she doesn't work there anymore. Udon is the best! The University of Toledo community is fortunate to have easy access to this fantastic and reasonably priced restaurant. Located on the Southwest corner of Main Campus, I love walking here on my lunch break for a quick bite to eat, or for a lingering working lunch. When I visit, I tend to play it safe with hot tea, a sushi roll or two, and an appetizer (Miso Soup or Edamame), but my colleagues will often rock out with a Bento Box or the steaming hot Stone Bowl BiBimBap. Dining solo or with others, no one is disappointed. The food is always fast, fresh, and mouth-watering good. And gluten-free soy sauce is available for those who request it. The interior is very clean, streamlined, and modern (think IKEA meets KotoBuki), with an emphasis on "fast casual" dining. You can tell that the owner and other staff genuinely take pride in their work: food is always served with a smile, and although it took a hot minute to get used to, the wait staff do not accept tips. I love this place! The food is always excellent and reasonably priced. The more basic rolls come with eight pieces versus six pieces like most places. They don't charge you for spicy mayo or eel sauce. My favorite rolls are Alaskan, Californian, spicy tuna and the troy roll. The stone bowls are so amazing. I always have a hard time deciding what to get here just because it's all so good. The owner (June) is extremely friendly and always professional. My favorite restaurant in Toledo! My family and I either eat in or get take out from Rice Blvd 3 or so times a week for either lunch or dinner. We primarily order the troy roll, spicy tuna, and tiger roll. We are also big fans of the hot bowls, and the yakisoba. We have tried sushi at several other Toledo locations, but, this place easily stands out as the best. The sushi has consistently been very fresh and always tasty. Try a Troy roll, you will never look back. The sushi chef and all staff are friendly and work very hard to make you feel welcome. The prices are impossible to beat. Quality with each and every encounter. What this place may lack in decor, is more than made up for in fresh, quality food and friendly charm. I have seen a few reviews on here that mention sushi being unavailable after 3 p.m. on Saturdays. While this is true, the sushi chef(owner) handles the entirety of hours that the restaurant is open. He is well deserving of having a half day for rest and relaxation. He can be seen working extremely hard and making sure every order is well prepared. Your food is brought out to your table when it is ready. We ordered shrimp tempura udon, panko chicken curry, jalapeno salmon sushi and dynamite sushi. When I say we, it was just my boyfriend and I and we wanted to try a lot but realized we had ordered way too much food. You get a huge amount of food for a very fair price. Our food was excellent! Rice Blvd is becoming somewhat of a staple for me. The food is great, especially considering the price. It's better than many Japanese restaurants in the area at a much lower price point. Ordering at the counter is simple, and service is friendly (they also do not accept tips). The bento portions are generous! The spicy chicken was tasty (I think it was dressed with bibimbap sauce - yum!), and I loved the side items, especially the croquette. It was a great way to try a little bit of everything that Sushi Blvd has to offer, and I'd recommend a bento to anyone going here for the first time. The few sushi rolls I've tried have all been well executed with fresh ingredients. There is a surprising number of rolls on the menu, but I've only tried a few of the simple ones (california and yellowtail) and they hit the spot. The udon has a simple, mild broth. The texture of the noodles was excellent - soft and not too chewy. There was a hard-boiled egg in the bowl along with some green onions, a little fried tofu, and a stick of krab meat. Very simple, but it did the trick. The yolk seemed to melt into the broth, which was nice. The bibimbap here is as good as any I've had in Toledo. Great sauce with a nice amount of heat, good blend of vegetables, and they get a good char on the rice in the stone bowl. Although the menu as Sushi Blvd was much more varied, the atmosphere and food quality reminded me of some of the counter-style restaurants and cafeterias I ate at in Japan. With tasty, simple, and affordable sushi and entrees, Sushi Blvd fills a gap in Toledo's Japanese restaurants and I hope they're here to stay. read more
